Opinions on Tforce Freight?

Currently Working at another big LTL rn and seen Tforce down the street was hiring. They seem to offer a great benefits package with fully paid Healthcare. Pay is a little less than what I'm making now. They start at 0.70cpm and top out at 0.80cpm from what their page says. Seems to also be a Union Job.
Everything seems mostly good on paper but I'm not sure what this company is like. If any of yall have ever worked for TForce I'd appreciate some input about the company and how they operate 🙏

Don’t forget the pension that they offer.

Didn’t ups just lay off 30000?owned by trans force.

Only thing ups has to do with t-force, is t-force bought their freight division. Ups parcel and package is a separate thing.
T-force could care less what ups package does.

the union aspect is pretty compelling, especially if you're thinking long term. that commenter about the national teamsters contract nailed it - that kind of bargaining power actually matters when contracts come up. the pay bump potential in a couple years could be substantial if the pattern holds like it did with ups.
that said, taking a step back in hourly rate to test it out is a real tradeoff. you'd want to be pretty confident about the terminal's volume and culture before you make that jump. i'd reach out to drivers at your local terminal if you can, not just read reviews online. ask specifically about what the first year or two looks like on the dispatch board - some places will have you covering nights for months, others rotate faster. the fully paid healthcare is legitimately nice, but it doesn't replace the money difference if you end up with inconsistent hours.

They're ok if you're in an 18wheeler, but be forewarned: they are incredibly cheap! They will try to cut and cut, and cut some more, usually spending a dollar to save a dime. They own enough trucking/courier companies that if one folds due to their mismanagement, or one has employees that are better paid, they have no issues shutting down one, shifting to another, even if the savings are minimal. The Mafia is less ruthless than TForce, so if you're getting in, have a backup plan, and don't keep all your eggs in their basket because they will crush every single one without a warning or apology if they get the chance. Just saying..

Yeah, they’re great company man especially if you live down the street from them. just try and schedule an interview with ABF Freight, XPO, FedEx Freight, Old dominion, as well. It all really depends on where you live too. Some of the union companies pay the exact same even if you live on the West Coast or East Coast. If you live in the West Coast, I would recommend working at XPO we have the highest wages at $40+ and overtime after 8 hours compared to ABF, which still pays $30 an hr it’s especially good if you’re in the National Guard and don’t even need the health benefits from your company we have a couple people that work in the state National Guard part-time.
If you were on the East Coast, I would recommend ABF FREIGHT $30 an hour in Florida is pretty solid and health benefits would be great. Same with T force. Go on Google Maps and look up all the terminals in your area. Find out what type of shift they would have you doing while you were in low seniority. Make sure you would be willing to work nights even if it’s just for a year.

I'm currently at FedEx Freight on the East Coast. They pay a bit higher than TForce but the main thing that's got me wanting to jump ship is the Union Benefits and the fact that they seem to have faster trucks which is very nice. I'm just not sure what it's like working for this company and am not sure if it'd be worth jumping ship
GroundbreakingSir386@reddit
Yeah, I’m not really sure I’ve never worked for FedEx FREIGHT, but I would hate to leave if you’ve already built seniority. At my Terminal, we have like 9 different routes and everybody trying to get the highest paying line haul route or city route. I would honestly consider moving if your area is kind of small but you still like working in LTL industry. It could make the difference of $90-100k vs $130-150k
Charlie_Hustler@reddit (OP)
I only have 1yr of seniority so not much tbh. It's not a bad company and they have plenty of work. Only reason I'm wanting to jump ship is for those Union Benefits and the Faster trucks. We are governed at 65 and it is miserable at times when you wanna pass someone but can't due to lack of speed.

Just look at your State National Guard instead. If you’re still young like me, you could join that instead and get a pension with health benefits free. Also make a little bit extra money in the state of Oregon we get up to $6,000 tax free wages and you can pass your education college benefits to your wife or yourself. I have a buddy at work right now. That has three children all paid from the National Guard healthcare almost about to unlock his full pension from the State and only works 2 days a month drill.

I transferred to Tforce due to a massive slowdown in the film and television industry in my area (I’m a teamster/ studio driver) and it’s been great. I’m sure it depends on your location/terminal size but management is super cool and they pay you for everything. drops, hooks, fuel, any time not driving is paid hourly with OT after 8 hours. Also they use a lot of owner operators for freight so when things slow down you don’t have to worry about being laid off because they have to cut all the o/o runs before laying off drivers (doesn’t apply to P/D) kinda sucks not having seniority as far as runs go but that’s gonna be true no matter where you go. Also.. and this is big, Tforce has a national contract with the teamsters union! Them, UPS, and ABF are the only national contracts that exist! This gives MASSIVE bargaining power to the union when it comes time to renegotiate the contract because a nationwide strike would effectively shut down operations nationwide. It’s how UPS got their recent massive contract signed and why their drivers are making $47 hour now. I expect Tforce drivers will see a big pay bump in 2 years when their contract is up… if I didn’t already have 10 years working in the highest paying sector of truck driving and wasn’t already a member of one of the toughest unions to get into I would stay at Tforce but I plan on going back in 2 years when I reach top seniority… $55 an hour plus OT to work local making movies is just to get to let go of but you should go for it

.70cpm ain’t that good for LTL .85cpm where I’m at
Charlie_Hustler@reddit (OP)
They do pay 0.80cpm but that's their top rate. Starting rate is at 0.70cpm which seems to be similar to the other LTLs in my area.

I couldn't specifically tell you about tforcr freight, but I do know the parent company in Canada has been buying a lot of OTR outfits in the United States. I think they're trying to diversify their freight lanes overall which might indirectly affect volume totals in the usa.
Charlie_Hustler@reddit (OP)
Gotcha. They seem like a solid company but I'm not entirely sure if it'd be worth jumping ship
Turbulent_Elk8129@reddit
I was with FedEx during the time they acquired ups freight, and I was told by the senior drivers that they're a lot more chilled out than previous Mgmt. But, that could of been anyone at that point tbh.

Thank you for posting in /r/Truckers, most questions can be found consulting our wiki. if you're asking about Medical or drug restrictions. New Drug testing rules go through the ClearingHouse where any failure gets reported. Hair follicle testing tends to go back 6 months with the truck companies that use it.
