[Handgun] $449 Springfield echelon 4.5F 20rd at Sportsmans warehouse

Man, I went into Sportsman Warehouse to get one of these with a $50 off CC sign up. All I can say is my experience at the location have been a huge negative contrast to my local ffls. YMMV, but I'd rather have my time back and no $400 handgun than do that again. 🫡

Man, I don't want to sound like a nagging consumer but I had just felt ignored throughout the whole process.

I had signed up for the card with another representative prior to my check out - then had gone to get the background check done. That part took 2-5 minutes, with a clear check.

Then - one representative helped two military customers, and was chatting with them. That's fine, I understand it, but there were several other employees chatting and not helping me out. I stood around for an hr-hr 15 before I had told them I would take my ID back and walk, as I had to get to work.

I'm not a super confrontational person so it takes me a bit to speak up, but at that point I was eager to go and disappointed. They still continued on with a sales pitch for their "gun cleaning services". I shut that down quick.

The cherry on top was them not even adding the $50 off of the handgun to begin with, and just running the credit card without it - the whole point of that sign up for what is an extremely "new credit owner" advantageous card. Do not sign up if you do not understand the APR, etc.

All in all, I got the handgun. I almost want to return it just since I don't want Sportsman to have any of my money.

I dont mean to sound bitchy, but as a consumer whose worked as a sales representative, this isn't the way it should have gone. I'd prefer to support a local caring FFL for sure, now...but this is how opinions are formed.

Just an opinion on one store though - I admittedly haven't shopped at any other Sportsman Warehouses.

Springfield is the king of market saturation. You can almost set your watch by their release cycle. Most of their guns go this way: - Initial release w/Hex optic - Smaller version - Bigger version - FDE version - Comped version of black - Comped version of FDE - Low end version

For anyone price matching this at Academy: if they give you a reference number for a refund when you pick it up they want you to get back on support to get a refund, not get it from the store. That wasn’t clearly explained to me and the store associates had no idea what I was talking about. Luckily the manager was nice enough to call up support and give them my reference number there.

Yeah, luckily they just cancelled it and let me rebuy it in the store. I was able to stack discounts and got it for $354 out the door!

I talked to a manager / level 2 rep on the phone because they messed up the pickup store. He was about to apply some stackable discounts so I didn't need to contact them back. Though I wished I could have applied my other discount on top of it lol.

FYI these are compliant guns, they have a big ass block of white text on the top that says “loaded when out” but you can take the optics plate off to get rid of that but the arrow is on the slide and a trigger disconnect. If you care at all

0 for 4 on academy price match attempts for this. 2 tries with chat support, once via email, and once in store all got different answers on why they couldn’t. Chats told me the descriptions and item numbers were too different. Email support told me that the nearest sportsman’s warehouse was too far away for the price to be valid. Staff in store said they wouldn’t match sales prices.

It took 2 attempts for me when it was the lower price but I got it. The first one kept making excuses because the sportsman's Warehouse comes with an extra mag. So eventually the second one didn't care about the extra mag, I think they just read it as same gun comes for 20 rounds you know stuff like that.

I heard their match policy is that it has to be a brick and mortar store in the state (no mile limit, just in the state) and the item cant be on sale. But, I dont know if that is the official policy.

Price match at cabelas/bass pro shops. I don’t have an Academy near me.

No transfer fee, paid $399.00 picked up out the door.
