Lads, what are you asking for for your Birthday this year?
Posted by Anonymous__9@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 169 comments
Purely looking for inspiration. Me and the better give each other lists and I know she will be asking for it soon. This year I really don't know what I want. She knows what I want/need usually plus I can go out and buy what I need usually. So other than the standard bits what are you asking for?
Wait-Whos-Joe@reddit
Hmmmm, maybe COD which is risky bcs they have bee rubbish the last few years, but theres a chance
yearsofpractice@reddit
50 year old married father of two here. I ask for exactly the same thing every year: - A big bag full of chocolate - One evening - just one evening - of being left alone. No questions, accusations or requests for opinions during that time - just left alone in silence and not made to feel guilty about it before, during and after.
I get the former every year. Still waiting for the latter.
Inevitable_Stage_627@reddit
Does your wife ask you not to keep repeating yourself as her birthday gift? Third time I’ve seen this comment 😂
yearsofpractice@reddit
Remember - ‘nagging’ is just a truth repeated.
Also - happy cake day
badger906@reddit
Nothing! My birthday is New Year’s Day and I’ve resented it all my life! Never got parties or celebrations on my birthday as everywhere was closed or my friends parents were hung over.. then as an adult, it’s over shadowed by everyone wanting to go out and celebrate the new year.
Might sound spoiled. But it’s never been a day about me. Everyone else gets a special day where people wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for your birthday.
Soo I just ignore it!
Pure_Decision_3471@reddit
NYD birthday here too and I’m the opposite - I love it! I don’t have to organise parties or be the focus of attention - friends and family can say happy birthday at midnight and I can say happy new year back. And I get to spend my birthday peacefully because everyone’s hungover and already said happy birthday at midnight. Horses for courses I guess. I’m sorry it sucks for you though, birthday twin. My dad’s a Christmas Day baby and I think that’s a bad deal because as a kid he never got separate Christmas and birthday presents.

To be fair, that would be a decent name for some aftershave
SundaeEnough7089@reddit
yeah honestly either one would feel like a pretty solid upgrade this year
Roseoman@reddit
You'll get a lynx gift set and maybe some new socks and you'll be happy!

He said birthday, not Christmas.
Soap-1987@reddit
Fuck... What aftershave do you want?
stillanmcrfan@reddit
I personally prefer a surprise. My partner is excellent at gift giving.
Kind_Shift_8121@reddit
For no one to mention that it’s my birthday. I hate birthdays and being centre of attention. The Mrs has figured this out now so instead of a party or gift she plans a lowkey weekend away in the camper.

Experiences not things every time. City break. Home cooked fine dining. Posh bottle of wine and a trip to the beach. Tasting menu with wine flight. Evening run through the city then back for. Comedy show and local pizzeria. Jazz bar and cocktails till late. Walking tour of somewhere fun. Pick cheap flights and go all out in Eastern Europe. Go to the races. Go watch rugby or wander round an aquarium. Take a picnic to a mountain top. Take a pot noodle to a bus stop.
Flugelhaw@reddit
And it doesn't have to be a big thing! In fact, it's even better if it's not a huge obligation.
Just a little thing, a bit out of the ordinary, with the people you love, that doesn't require hours of travel time or preparation to make happen.
4tunabrix@reddit
I want a leatherman signal multitool this year. I spend a lot of time outdoor, hiking, cycling, camping, climbing, and also do a lot of fieldwork in my job. A decent multitool is something I’ve been missing.

It’s lovely at this time of year, nothing beats a warm summer breeze over your butt cheeks as a stranger gives you a bj in a car park as the sun sets behind you.
That’s why it’s the second favourite summer past time for Brits, after fish and chips on the beach of course.

I normally do experiences or trips for my husband but this year I am both heavily pregnant and we had a lot going on anyway. I bought him an exact replacement of his backpack which was looking a bit worse for wear (as he’s a bit specific about what he likes) and then filled it with things he likes- favourite drinks, chocolate, socks, golf balls, a cookbook from an Instagram chef he likes, etc. felt like I didn’t put as much effort in than I usually do but he loved it and everything has actually been used
AxeWieldingWoodElf@reddit
My partner doesn’t buy himself underwear, he wears them til they’re rags. So, underwear is gifted, along with fancy socks.

If you can't think of a thing you want, what about an activity. Maybe a voucher for a brewery tour or escape room or even just dinner somewhere fancy.

Events that you wouldn't usually bother with is always great.
I went to watch LoTR in concert which was great. Feel like a crystal maze run or a rage room could be fun to try out.
Flying lessons or drift/track day could be fun. Or just tickets to a gig/sports event.

Not a guy but my other half NEVER knows what he wants. Some inspo from recent years:
experiences (weekend/night away, tours, zoo, fancy restaurant, driving experiences, escape room etc)
Lego/activity stuff (grow your own plants/fruit/veg/herbs)
books/music (record player/vinyl/fiction books or non-fiction about your interests, or a Kindle)
clothes/shoes/underwear, something nice for a holiday or festival if you have one coming up? Or swimwear, sunglasses, cap etc. Work clothes?? My partner ALWAYS needs new work boots/trousers. Accessories - belt, jewelry, bag
DIY stuff/tools/anything for your car
aftershave, beard oil, skincare etc
tech - phone case, camera, gaming stuff
food/drink - coffee machine/press/caffetiere/accessories, fancy sauces/spice sets/BBQ stuff
No-Garbage9500@reddit
Do a bit of an audit in what you do for fun/hobbies, and ask for a nice version of a tool you use often. Nice paintbrush, shoes, subscription to a relevant app, etc.
molluscstar@reddit
It’s our 20th anniversary this year so I’m peppering related gifts through the year for Father’s Day, birthday and anniversary. They are: two Sonos speakers and stands, a vinyl player is being gifted by our nephew so I’m up-cycling a table/stand from marketplace (it has all-important slots for CDs as well as vinyl), and then various collectible vinyls. Makes future gift giving easier as I can just add to his collection! His anniversary gift to me is to pay for a tattoo which would work for any gender if you’re into them.
Cirias@reddit
I'm going to be 38 very soon and I have no idea about gifts anymore. I suggested a new lager glass to my wife but haven't been able to think of a single other thing I want lol. Older generations were right, as you get older birthdays become less and less important.
Tricky_Persimmon3043@reddit
I got a kindle this year - loving using it as trying to be a cool guy who reads more. Other things I got are nice coffee, lego, model kits, chocolate, and a water flosser - practical gifts are good if there's something you want but wouldn't buy for yourself like grooming tools etc
sakmentoloki@reddit
We don't give gifts to each other on bdays/Christmas etc. We just buy things the other might like as we see them through the year. Like lego sets or whatever
IUsedToLikeLimericks@reddit
LXT mitre saw I think. The dual battery one.
No idea what they cost, but I'm sick of plugging in my Evolution one and it cuts fairly inaccurately, too.
Time will tell. I'll probably just get it myself. We don't really do presents.
martyrees76@reddit
All I wanted for my birthday (50th) was the new resident evil game. I got a jacket that I wore once and something else (might have been chocolate )
I bought the game myself.
I don’t ask for anything anymore

24hrs of pure peace and quiet to listen to music and read and not have to do anything for anyone , but i know i wont get it 😭
ZookeepergameWise774@reddit
I read, like, A LOT, so it can get expensive to keep up with new books/ new writers. I use a website called Abebooks, which specialises in second-hand books. So my husband buys me really good editions of favourite books, or copies of author-signed books, or just a book he sees a review of and thinks I might enjoy. Since it’s second-hand, they’re usually cheaper.
Affectionate-Boot-12@reddit
We went London for my 40th. Had a cracking day. It was the first time for my children and they loved it. Making memories is a priceless present.
No_Atmosphere1852@reddit
Cooking bits for me. Stainless steel pans, chef's knife, whet stone, nice chopping board.
The big problem I have is everything on my list is stuff too expensive for me to buy myself which means it's also too expensive for most people to consider buying for me as well.

Its actually my birthday at the end of the month, and I'm taking a couple of days off work. So I've asked my girlfriend if I can have a "day off", where basically on one of the days I pretend to go to work, but actually just chill out in my home office and read/play video games/paint minis.
For my daughter, it's just like I've gone to work, so it's not disrupting anyone's routine or anything, but I get to just chill out
