How possible is it to actually become a digital nomad?

There are basically 4 ways people work abroad as a digital nomad: 1) Already have an income from investments or pension. Often these people don't have enough to comfortably retire in their own country but do have enough for SE Asia for example, so why retire poor in freezing Chicago when you can be drinking a $1 beer on the beach in Danang? 2) Have a permanent job that they can work remotely at. Sometimes time differences can make this difficult, and mess up your ability to socialise locally, and if you change job you might lose this possibility. But if you get this "geo-arbitrage" right (western income + low cost of living) you can also save a huge amount for the future. 3) Build an online side hustle, or preferably multiple side hustles so if one fails you have backups. The main advantage is that you can often create these before you go, then once you feel secure in your income you buy those flights to Bangkok! 4) Find a job in the local country. This is quite difficult and usually badly paid. Teaching English is by far the most realistic of these, just do a TEFL qualification and arrange something before you go. You can do online teaching but I consider that more of an online side hustle, somewhat over-subscribed and probably only realistic now if you're a native English speaker (i.e. from the USA, Canada, Oz, NZ or the UK). I'd recommend trying it for 3-6 months, create a few side hustles first, save up an emergency fund, research costs, then go for it! When you get back evaluate what you did, what you've learnt and whether it's for you. You or your partner might end up hating it, or you might love it so much you immediately start planning Digital Nomad 2.0! Anyway, best of luck.
