Just Because Early Gen-Xers are Turning 60...

This doesn't mean everyone over 60 is Gen X now. Got it Boomer.
Boomers already have everything and now they want street cred.
yangstyle@reddit
I'm early GenX (1965) and I'm going through a mid-life crisis now. But, whatever...ain't got time for that.
Alternative-Law4626@reddit
Slacker, you were suppose to have already had your mid-life crisis! You think you’re gonna live to 120? /s
madtownjeff@reddit
Mid-life just means "not young anymore, but not old yet" it has nothing to do with actual life span.
Alternative-Law4626@reddit
I was wondering if the police would show up. What if I wanna do it my way?
madtownjeff@reddit
Whatever
yangstyle@reddit
What can I say? I'm always a decade behind. I got married at nearly 40. Had a kid at 45. So, yeah, I better live to 120.
Alternative-Law4626@reddit
😂 yeah, I’d say so!
StartKindly9881@reddit
I’m 61 1965 on border of both. Loving life. Retired and we planned extremely well. We worked hard and also overcame a lot and it all worked out. No mortgagees on 2 modest homes in nice areas. Learning how to boat on a small modest boat. No debt. Hit our savings liquid goals and knew the difference of just because we can, doesn’t mean we should. Since 20s, always centered on gaining a career and living below means. Good luck Gen Z. You waste too much time blaming. I’m grateful to my Grandparents, Parents and extended nuclear family for what they taught us. This newer unable to critically think, plan , cope, be patient generation is in for a lot.
AikoAiko7@reddit
Sorry, youre a moron if you think Gen Z has the same opportunities as someone born in 1965.
International-Okra79@reddit
Gen Z has it incredibly hard today. I remember renting a place with my friend for 350 a month. It was a pretty nice 2-bedroom. I can't even imagine what they would want for it now. It wasn't hard to find a decent used vehicle back then for cheap. Decent used cars are outrageously priced now.
Plus, the job market has drastically changed. I never had to fight an algorithm that discarded my application if it didn't have the right keywords. Companies still trained back then and had real entry-level positions. Not entry-level pay requiring mid-level experience. I'm sympathetic to young people because the deck is really stacked against them.
StartKindly9881@reddit
Yeah I’m a wealthy moron but you’re a dope. Here’s the deal. We had grandparents that lost everything in the Great Depression. We raised by those parents who prioritized worked 3 jobs, survived Vietnam, job loss , child loss, .. we learned how to make things last, not complain and plan and get things done. You’re a whiner and blamer. I could care less. We are where we planned to be and overcame a lot. Good luck whiner.
zappyface1@reddit
Be thankful for what you’ve got. Had to change jobs a couple years ago and was doing very good financially until I got ill. Now I’m starting over again building up my nest egg. And no my extended family wouldn’t or couldn’t help. I can pick up extra hours at work so that is helpful.
StartKindly9881@reddit
Please we survived downsizings too and chronic illness etc. It all worked out.
lisanstan@reddit
Early GenX turns 61 this year. I am officially "over 60" as of a month ago. Still GenX.
imgrendel@reddit
I turn 60 this year. I always felt like a minority even with in the GenX.
MachoGeek@reddit
Turned 60 this year as well although I don't feel like a minority.
That may be due to being in the computing field has always kept me up on tech.
Also I never stopped gaming which probably contributes as well.
Seyforth@reddit
Gen X is going to be the new boomers. Start getting ready now so we can keep those millennials in their place
Successful-Bank-7457@reddit
You don't "turn i into a boomer", dumbass
Seyforth@reddit
Ok, boomer
chatterwrack@reddit
It’s the top spot where younger generations begin to blame everything on you. Watch.
voidchungus@reddit
I took their comment to mean that it's just a matter of time before each generation (including ours) is eventually perceived as the "elderly and out of touch" group that it's most popular to harbor antipathy towards. It's the group for whom ageism is most broadly tolerated (case in point, OP's post).
I personally don't think this is inevitable though. I don't think each generation turns into the "new boomers " per se. I am curious to see how Gen X ages into the age range currently occupied by Boomers -- both what we'll be like, as well as how we'll be perceived.
Araneas@reddit
My sister was born in 1959, I was born in 1963. She had the full boomer experience, I diod not and in my area, we didn't get a generation Jones so I identify as Gen X.
Life experiences are what should be what define how you see yourself, not arbitrary dividing lines between manufactured generations.
Myfanwy66@reddit
You’re a Boomer though.
Araneas@reddit
I could give a detailed rant / rebuttal, but I don't really give a fuck about your opinion. /s
Myfanwy66@reddit
That’s the most Boomer thing I’ve ever read.
Araneas@reddit
😂
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
Why does this keep you up at night? I'm younger GenX and I do not care. I know plenty of people across the entire span of generations and they have been cool, stupid, productive, and lazy, in every one of them. The neatly organized media manufactured generational blocks aren't cool kid clubs. There's a lot of overlap between them.
PeteRust78@reddit
Not to old-man you, but you weren’t around for the GenX-Boomer wars of the early ‘90s
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
I remember the Yuppies plenty well.
PeteRust78@reddit
Perhaps, but was your entire youth dominated by a culture of Boomer artists on the radio and an endless celebration of the ‘60s in TV and the movies?
JuJu_Wirehead@reddit
Yes.
Hey_Laaady@reddit
I was around then and I agree with the younger Gen X whippersnapper

Grunge4U@reddit
Going by the original definition which is accepted on this sub, most people in their 60's are Gen X.
No-Top-883@reddit
No. Gen X starts at 1965 so the would be max 61 and down. 62 and up are boomers.
Grunge4U@reddit
Just look at the sub you chose to join, it accepts 61-81. Gatekeeping is a very non-GenX trait. That is the original definition.
No-Top-883@reddit
Sorry but GenX is 1965-1980, I don’t make the rules.
Grunge4U@reddit
You should find a sub that plays by your misguided rules. This Sub has always accepted the original and correct definition.

What exactly was it that inspired you to make this post?

The reality is that many of our parents were silent generation.
imgrendel@reddit
My parents were technically silent generation, but were so close to the boomers Gen that they were practically boomers in attitude.
notevenapro@reddit
I get it. My parents died poor and destitute
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
yep, 1937 and 1940, in my case.
Hey_Laaady@reddit
And some of us had Greatest Gen parents
TimeTraveler1848@reddit
I call them the “stubborn generation”. Ask me why lol.
TheCatWhoOvercame@reddit
I didn't realize until recently that both my parents are technically silent generation! My mom is right on the cusp.
They are both so stereotypically boomerish it wouldn't have crossed my mind that they'd be anything else, but someone posted the years for each generation here.
JustFaithlessness178@reddit
Who cares? Last night I laid in bed trying to remember if I was 57 or 58. I'm 57 by the way. Little concerned that I didn't know this and had to do math ..."I was born in 69, if I was born in 70 I would be 56..."
PeachOnAWarmBeach@reddit
Math complications set in when I believe in my heart that 2001 was only about 10 years ago... 😆

I’m older Gen-X , every generation has its own life challenges and flaws , but the later Baby Boomers also known as Generation Jones were pretty much in the same crappy boat we were in starting out. I don’t mind the early Baby Boomers their good fortune , it’s the lack of awareness of how rare that fortune was and how later generations have no way repeating it.
One-Earth9294@reddit
I'm only 46 and find myself spending like 90% of my time in the xennial sub because too much of this one turned into 'I keep sitting on my balls' posts.

I’m a 60 year old Gen X but identify as 1705 enlightenment thinker.
grateful_john@reddit
I’m already sixty. If you use the Wikipedia definition of GenX (born 1965-1980) lots of my friends are Boomers. It’s not a big deal.
calculon68@reddit
people gotta gatekeep and tribalize every goddamn thing. If it's not craving validation, it's trying to sit on top of everybody else.
YouMustBeJoking888@reddit
Born in 65 means you just squeaked into GenX by a hair. Whew!
SoCal7s@reddit
I make the claim that 16 years old when 16 Candles was in the theater is Peak Gen X. So 60 next year is absolutely perfect. Until then, I’m down with the Boomer slander for 60 year olds.
skoltroll@reddit
I'm for slander for anyone over 60, including when I hit 60.
At that point, it should be about talking shit and letting the kids run the show as it's their future.
Marigold1976@reddit
I refer to myself as geriatric Gen X. It’s like having seniority, but with more aches and pains.
ScurriousSquirrel@reddit
Generation Jones!
notevenapro@reddit
Anyone who thinks boomers had it all grew up in a bubble. I know/knew plenty of boomers who did not do well.
Huge gap inbetween a boomer working retail in 1989 and one working wall street.
Advanced_Tax174@reddit
What all the little Reddit whiners miss is how hard older generations worked to earn what they got, and how few luxuries they indulged in along the way.
Today people live their entire lives expecting nothing but luxury and then cry when they don’t have enough money.
Apart_Olive_3539@reddit
The energy put into stupid shit like this post. Bla bla bla.
dirtybird971@reddit
They were called the "Me generation" before boomers for a reason.
imgrendel@reddit
No joke on the “me” part of the me generation.
CB_Chuckles@reddit
Turning 60 in a few months. According to my wife, I’m just about the most GenX a GenXer can be. For what it’s worth, she’s the one constantly tracking who’s what. I’m the one who doesn’t really care, since it’s actually not really all that important.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
All of this angst against folks that happened to be born a few years earlier is weird to me.
LivingGhost371@reddit
No need to join into what GenZ started.
Scarpity026@reddit
There's not enough manufactured conflict in the world. Let's make some more up and see how much engagement it gets.
