Do people who like to go out find deciding what to do on a Friday/Saturday night painful?

How do you solve this currently? I end up sitting there for 1 hour trying to find what to do whether it be using TikTok or Google then nothing happens in the end as it’s too late by then!! Even if I go out with friends it’s the same problem “we’ve been here before, it’s the same old thing etc”
What do people do to solve this?
Prudent-Pressure2146@reddit
I tend to make plans in advance with friends. So like later this week I’m meeting my friend for a walk, in a couple of weekends I’m going to dinner with one of my friends, next week going to see a show etc.
If I’m planning to meet someone off the cuff we’ll probably just go for a drink and catch up.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Yes, I do the same from time to time but now it’s come to a stage where last minute plans end up working better due to everyone’s commitments! We just end up having a drink at our local. Thank you for the advice
Prudent-Pressure2146@reddit
There’s nothing wrong with going to a local, though! You don’t always need to be ‘doing’ stuff. Another suggestion might be take turns hosting and making dinner? Might be a bit cheaper too

Let me guess you’re in your mid to late 20’s?
Because you hit a point where you’ve kinda gone to every pub/club in your local area, plans fall apart because your mates are married or have kids, people are skint or in general a lot more people just prefer staying indoors.
I suppose the easy thing to say is to try new things if your bored of the same old places, new hobbies, new gigs to go to, try unexpected things I guess
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Haha yes you hit it on the nail!! I will definitely look into trying new things, I have started working out and trying to be healthier but can’t turn down a pint at the local. Thanks for the advice
OverTheCandlestik@reddit
It just kinda happens in your mid 20’s, you’ve done uni, you’ve done all the same pubs and clubs and you’re kinda maturing into an adult in which staying in and not clubbing until 4am is preferable.
I think your just going through the motions of it mate, honestly it happens to everyone when you hit like 24
BillyJoeDubuluw@reddit
I think it depends what you fancy at the time and what you actually enjoy doing in the first place.
If I’m in the mood for “I’ve been here before” then my nearest pub does have a nice enough atmosphere and the local market has evolved in to more of a plaza with various food courts etc.
I’m surrounded by a variety of places to walk and there’s a spot I use for wild swimming within reasonable reach…
I’ll keep my eye on socials for live music and events but I’ll also happily go out and take a punt.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Yess definitely!! It seems like everyone sticks to their comforts and the vibe they know, I thought it was only me!! Nice to know though. Thanks for the advice

A couple of months ago we bought a train pass thing (forgot what the card is called but you get cheaper pay if you pay 30 quid or something for the year) and every saturday that we've not had plans we've just got the train to a nearby different place and had a wander while getting smashed.
Last Saturday we ended up in a country bar with a live singer who was great and then went to some burger bar that was really good. No planning really just got off train station, found a cocktail bar and then went from there.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Haha I actually love this idea!! that sounds like a lot of fun!! I don’t think my friends are like that due to their commitments and time. It definitely seems funny and jokes 😂 thanks for the advice, will try convince one of them to try this

Write down all the options, pull one out of a hat.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Love it! Old school! Will keep that noted thanks !
Otherwise_Living_158@reddit
How do you use TikTok to decide what to do?
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
You can search for anything on there to be fair, but I would not take recommendations from there all the time, better to research yourself as the majority of people get paid to advertise on there so it is not always true
heyitsed2@reddit
Social media is full of influences recommending everything from going to the trendiest new street food joint in London to experiences and scenic walks and more.
Otherwise_Living_158@reddit
I just can’t figure out the mindset of not knowing what to do until the day itself, and then settling down to my TikTok feed for inspiration
heyitsed2@reddit
No me either. OP could easily be a karma farming bot tbf. It's a very weird question.
Flat_Development6659@reddit
We've done the same while on holiday loads, in Prague it was really useful as a lot of their bars are hidden speakeasy type bars you would struggle to find otherwise.
heyitsed2@reddit
Can you get tiktok to show you things that specifically, like enter hashtags "Prague" and "bars" and it'll just show you that stuff?
Flat_Development6659@reddit
Yeah I think you can even just drop your coordinates in from Google maps to get a bit more specific on where exactly you are, I don't know how to do it and I've never downloaded TikTok but my wife has managed to find bars and restaurants within a couple of streets of us on TikTok.
eddyespinosa1@reddit
It almost works like a search engine, so you can literally search for things to do in x place.
You can input a city or part of the city and it’ll come up with videos (made by influencers obviously) suggesting places to go
Repulsive-Ad-8339@reddit
It might seem boring to some but we have a pub we generally go to all the time. We know the staff, we know the regulars, you can have conversation with them, they know your drinks order before you've even asked, on music nights you can have a few drinks and a dance without feeling judged or running into knobheads either trying to hit on you or start a fight. When we drink in other pubs now it just feels lifeless and unpersonable. Maybe it's our age but I just can't be bothered with bar crawls or clubs now.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
I totally agree! I do the same, go to my local pubs and it’s fine but sometimes I can get a bit bored of them. But totally agree with the clubbing and bar crawls, I cannot be bothered for that (unless the weather is really nice!!) thank you for the advice
AwkwardWaltz3996@reddit
Nope. We have the same starting spot every week. Good and cheap. Then after a few the brain is more impulsive and it's easy to pick where next.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
I was like that but I feel a bit robotic going to the same places at times, I like to see new things but I understand it requires time and effort and not everyone is on the same wavelength. Thank you for the advice
kisikisikisi@reddit
I make plans with my friends earlier in the week, typically. I never really find myself trying to come up with something to do on Friday night. Either I already have plans with my friends or I spend the evening at home with the dog. Now that it's nice out I might go for a long walk in the evening with said dog.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Ah nice!! I’ll start to plan in advance but it only works with some friends not all. You’re lucky to have a dog, I don’t have one unfortunately!! Thanks for the advice
TapeDeckSlick@reddit
Used to but I much prefer to stay home these days, like you said it was the same old shit every week.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Exactly but staying at home gets boring too after a while!! Thanks for the comment
BabaYagasDopple@reddit
I got a motorbike, so I don’t have to decide what to do on a Friday or Saturday night. I get to bed at a decent time after sticking on a film or something then get up early Saturday/ Sunday and just ride
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Haha you’re super lucky, I only drive! Wish I knew how to use a motorbike
carlovski99@reddit
You are probably overthinking it. Back when I did still go 'Out' - 9/10 times we would go to the same place. Company being more important than the actual place plus saved any planning - you know you could just go there and see people. Then we would mix it up occasionaly.
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Yes this happens a lot, I end up going to the same places and life just feels like it’s on repeat doing the same thing week in week out. I guess I’m just getting fed up, thank you for the advice

Thanks noted
tortilla_avalanche@reddit
You make plans beforehand?
Tallman_james420@reddit
Most of my weekends out are planned over a month in advance.
tortilla_avalanche@reddit
Same. And if they aren't, I get a chill night in.
Tallman_james420@reddit
Exactly, sometimes I look forward to those weekends more than the planned ones!
TiePossible8081@reddit (OP)
Haha fair enough! That is a given but sometimes I have last minute plans too!!
Greedy_Ad_7198@reddit
I stopped overthinking it: on Friday night I just leave the house and head towards the centre. If no one joins me — I just walk into the first place with a free seat. Last Friday I ended up crashing a random group playing Monopoly in a pub — we took over the whole floor, got smashed on rum, and now we meet there every weekend even when there's no occasion.
Ok_Shirt983@reddit
Sorry? You met them for the first time last Friday and now you meet every weekend? Are you a time traveler? I assume from the em dashes that this is AI bullshit.
terryjuicelawson@reddit
I remember this happening a lot, the worst was new year. People wanting to make it special / different to the point they forget to just go out and enjoy themselves. The place you will find becomes somewhat irrelevant.
YodaShagsDarthVader@reddit
Sat at home. "Pub?" I think to myself. Then go to the pub.
