I took this shot today on Coronado island of a Lockheed C-5M landing at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego

Used to live in San Antonio in the 80’s. These things would touch and go all day. Looked like they were moving about 20 miles per hour.
One afternoon one had been doing touch and goes, when all of a sudden, they bank hard left and fly out of the pattern. Way in the distance something was coming in on a straight final. It was the Space Shuttle, piggy-backed on its 747 carrier. Way way cool.

That’ll rattle the windows in the Hotel Del…

Awesome! Thanks for the great catch.
(Meanwhile… the north end of Coronado sinks half an inch)

I usually am not into cargo planes, but the engines on this aircraft just make me change my mind every time I hear them… I made an hour long engine ASMR of this thing for how gorgeous it sounds haha

The older engines were better.
It’s always amazing that this beast can fly.
Truly a Fucking Ridiculous Economic Disaster

I would love to hear it!

Oh damn I guess I need to upload it somewhere then, I often listen to it while I work or need to focus for some reason, I think someone else may find it as useful as I do!
Nice spotting by the way :3

That’s amazing 😂
midsprat123@reddit
Wow!
Filmed horizontally
Filmed steadily
And you actually captured the landing (even if the hill obscured it)
OP - you are amazing.

The best dog beach in the world. Drove over here 3x in my 1 week SD visit last year to fetch my dog at Coronado. I was not prepared for how many cool naval craft were landing

Thanks for the nice, steady, HQ, horizontal format video!

I was stationed there for 3 years.

I think I saw this fat beast approaching Los Alamitos around 8pm today.
Superior-619@reddit (OP)
You’re absolutely right. A C-5M landed at Los Alamitos at 8:28 PM from Hopkinsville. I would’ve never thought one could take off from Los Alamitos
kietkat@reddit
Yeah, had to look it up to find out that Los Al can handle huge ass planes.
Real_TomBrady@reddit
Same, it flew directly over Disneyland
kietkat@reddit
Yeah, it was coming in so low and slow. Crazy timing to walk outside to see that. Was kind of in awe.

I got to ride as a passenger in one of these to evacuate the Philippines when I was a child. I vaguely remember it. The helicopter ride and aircraft carrier parts were more memorable for me for some reason
Bronco1684@reddit
That is a gorgeous beautiful beast
Superior-619@reddit (OP)
Yep, it sure is

Thank you for sharing!

Feel like he’s smiling. I would be too. Awesome.

Thanks! I agree!
