Animatrix -The Second Renaissance: sorry for the Doom

It felt utterly outlandish at the time to imagine a world where humanity would not just accept, but actively applaud, the systematic destruction of the atmosphere.
I'm also just curious in general - I'm sure 90% of us has seen The Matrix, but have most of us also seen the Animatrix?

I watched that DVD on repeat, I loved the one in Japan with the cat. I loved them all, who am I kidding, but that one haunts me.

Second Renaissance 1 & 2 gave me the bloody chills - TV preacher in a shopping cart reading last rights - still own it but I gotta be way down to get thru it

I definitely think they're the strongest and most visually stunning of all the films. Plus, "Supermoves (Animatrix Edit)" by Overseer absolutely kills in the battle scenes.

Entirely a master class in combined styles portraying the over all narrative - as a collection simply brilliant

Yes this came out similar timing to the video game - I swear I would watch 6 more hours of this format of material
The two (3? 4?) other matrix sequels were fine, but the animatrix was absolute peak

I was talking about "Second Renaissance 1 & 2" specifically - it's probably the most memorable of all the shorts, at least for me - but I think the whole collection does a great job at fleshing out the Matrix universe (even more than the movies, at times.)

The android being ripped apart by an angry mob for fun as it screams for help🫢

Uggghh
SteakJones@reddit
The animatrix is so damn good.

Not only do I have the DVD but I also still have Enter The Matrix for PS2!!

I never understood why anyone would think that's a good idea given we need the sun to survive, too
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Profit. Yes, we are that short-sighted.
GalaxyRedRanger@reddit
The sun doesn’t have shareholders.
Wak3upHicks@reddit
Yeah, unfortunately. I was just talking about that scene at work the other day. When that movie came out it seemed unbelievable, but now? Ehh...
youreusingyourwrong@reddit
The Animatrix was the second best Matrix movie.
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
The best Matrix sequel of the lot.
DarksunDaFirst@reddit
I still have the DVD set of the trilogy and the Animatrix.
Some of those stories were dark, yes the current times make me think back to them.
Gloomy-Moose-4367@reddit
in the green box?
foamingturtle@reddit
I had this box set. Had the green matrix code all over it
DarksunDaFirst@reddit
No, I bought them all separately.
Fickle_Wrangler_7439@reddit
Same. Genuinely great animation and stories.
Mike__O@reddit
I've got the full box set with the little Neo bust. I also have the holofoil one sheets from Reloaded and Revolutions
sey5_venn@reddit
This was all over the anime forums when it came out. It was such a high profile collab of East/West studios. I have it on the Deluxe Edition DVD set.
bluemitersaw@reddit
I have the DVD!
sccr1313@reddit
my favorite animated short
dinkydeath@reddit
This second part got insanely dark, but it gave a lot of context in building up pre-Matrix lore.
