I want a PC but can’t type

I have never been able to type and sorta want a PC. I’ve always been a Xbox player, besides some Wii and PlayStation occasionally. But is it easy to play on PC without typing experience or not?
alphaknight702@reddit
You can still use your controller or any type on pc any it’s fully supported no limits
MrMcnolty@reddit (OP)
Like I can play steam games with a controller?
AchtungZboom@reddit
I mean I only play with controller.. in fact my main gaming PC is connected to my 65 inch TV. I was a console player my whole life up until 2 years ago... You are at a great place for controllers on PC.. I love my 8bitdo ultimate 2 controllers... but there are many good options these days and most games support controllers out of the gate.
_-Demonic-_@reddit
yeah, steam has an auto mapping feature for controllers. Basically evey game that has controller support is playable with any type of controller as long as the brand is supported by steam.
Fo XBOX:
It's plug an play regardless for windows.
Microsoft made work of this on their own platform. An XBOX controller should work in windows regardless of whether you use steam or not.
Particular_Put_2005@reddit
Yeah steam allows controller support. Steam themselves sells a controller as well
RBisoldandtired@reddit
Yes and controllers are cheaper. My wireless 8bitdo ultimate 2 c controller is the best controller I’ve used and was like £30.
I refuse to spend on “pro” or “elite” controllers and this one beats the standard xbox one by a mile
anon34799543@reddit
And if you want a true 'pro' or 'elite' without cost, look into GameSir cyclone 2, can't recommend them enough - so impressed with mine. I used to break (stick drift) controllers yearly at best without ever chucking em or whatever. Lotta mw19, for honor, and chiller games, but I know what caused those issues lol
RBisoldandtired@reddit
I’ll keep it in mind but I’m very happy with my 8bitdo rn :)
anon34799543@reddit
For sure, sharing it for others!
Wor3q@reddit
You can even connect the xbox controller you already have to a PC and use it to play games.
Nagesh_yelma@reddit
Steam will let you know if a game has partial , full or no controller support.
Printednightmare@reddit
On the steam page for that game it will say what input methods are supported. If game controllers aren't supported for the game you want to play, Google it and there is often a solution to still use a controller. I can't fully touch type and use a computer daily for work and have been using computers daily since the 1980s so I feel your pain. I've taken multiple classes, used different teaching programs, and even tried different layouts. It just doesn't fully stick for me. Honestly switching to side legend key caps has helped me the most in remembering the layout. I still can't touch type though
alphaknight702@reddit
Yea I used PS3, PS4, PS5 duel sense, Nintendo pro, xbox, all kinds controllers for years and most steam libraries of games are fully supported.
I’m waiting on the new steam controller to be released soon
alphaknight702@reddit
There’s mass community of forums, groups, YouTube video’s for controllers use on pc
BobLighthouse@reddit
I use a PS5 edge controller w/Steam.
PC is much more flexible in that regard.
I also have flight sim gear that would be useless on console lol
Pattywhack_the_bear@reddit
Why not just learn to type? It isn't hard.
Thundernutz79@reddit
I was never a great typist, but once I started gaming on PC and chatting with people I played with online via text, I got way way faster.
RanInThaCut@reddit
Yes, there’s even games to practice typing haha. You don’t need to know how to type to play games though
MrMcnolty@reddit (OP)
How much is a decent PC cost? Cause I wanna buy one but not for like a grand or something crazy like that
Muizaz88@reddit
A grand is certainly not crazy in the world of PC building. In fact, I'd suggest saving more if you want to get anything relatively current. That does really also depend on what games you want to play, though.
Indie and older games, maybe you'd get away with something under a grand.
Newer titles? Unlikely.
MrMcnolty@reddit (OP)
Damn well I’m not buying a PC then
Particular_Put_2005@reddit
Op, wait for the steam machine since you can play steam games like a console
didntreallyneedthis@reddit
What makes you want a pc?
MrMcnolty@reddit (OP)
Cause of all stream games, there’s a lot of them I wanna play. But PC’s cost too much
RanInThaCut@reddit
You spend more up front but in the long run it’s worth it.
fray_bentos11@reddit
Consider it a longer term investment; PC games are a lot cheaper than console games. No subscriptions to play online. Many games are given away from free, e.g. Epic games gave away Hogwarts Legacy a few times.
alphaknight702@reddit
Right now is a bad time to get a pc or anything because of Ai data servers has buying up all the pc parts, energy and materials has driving the cost to triple digit prices
n8udd@reddit
As long as you can identify letters... you should be able to type. Perhaps not well... but you can type.
Most games there isn't a need to type anyway, you will be pressing the same keys repeatedly (think A B X Y on an Xbox Controller).
MrMcnolty@reddit (OP)
I mean I can’t properly type.
daemonfool@reddit
Plenty of people get by without learning touch typing particularly well. I'm not too good at it myself and use a bastardized system.
CarbonPhoenix96@reddit
Man nothing taught my to type fast better than playing MMOs trying to communicate with my team during battles
Double_Rip7489@reddit
Listen all you need is wasd ctrl Shift C g f and 1 2 3 4 5. Its easy give it 2 months
MagicPistol@reddit
Get a gaming PC and then get Typing of the Dead.
Sensei-D@reddit
You can play most games with a controller, but typing is a valuable skill and you should learn to do it. There’s plenty of software that can teach you how to.
User09060657542@reddit
Learn to type. Simple. For example, TypingClub.com
nepheelim@reddit
dont know how old you are but in this day and age there is 99% chamce you will have a job where you will have to use a computer at some point. Get a pc and learn to type. You dont need to type a lot for gaming though
laffles@reddit
Never seen such obvious bait before
Baddger_223@reddit
Agreed you don't need to know how to touchtype to game.... However I strongly suggest if you have time to learn......you WILL NOT regret it
Nstorm24@reddit
Why would you need to type? I never learned to type fast using all fingers (i mastered the 1 finger per hand technique) and ive always been a pc gamer.
ohdogwhatdone@reddit
Don't be ashamed, happens to the best of us https://youtube.com/shorts/VHoqkgJdnL8
Nstorm24@reddit
Yeah, its funny. I can easily type without seeing the keyboard using only 1 finger per hand. The moment i invite the other fingers i lose my way thru the keyboard.
armahillo@reddit
Typing is a skill. If you try to learn it, you can learn it. Force your hands to start with left hand on ASDF and right hand on JKL: — if youre going to hunt and peck anyways, you might as well build muscle memory. You’ll get faster over time!
EmploymentNegative59@reddit
Yes.
