CFI Accelerated

For all aviators post-CFI, what’s your thoughts on Accelerated CFI programs like Midwest corporate in Ohio? Been thinking about pulling the trigger as the Los Angeles area has been unbelievably slow and understaffed with available DPEs willing and wanting to do CFI rides. Any advice and words or wisdom help! Blue skies!

These are finish up courses.
Expecting them to help you be successful from zero work done is not the proper approach.
You need have 90% plus of the work already completed by the time you show up.

Figured that one lol. All my grounds are done and have about 5 hours right seat

Very good. Then you should be ready for the fire hose.

I.e., lesson plans and FOI/FIA.
This is probably a good perspective.
Do these programs communicate this expectation in your experience?

Not always.

The bottleneck in SoCal is legendary, so you are basically paying for the DPE slot as much as the training. If you can knock it out in two weeks in Ohio, take the win and get back to building hours before the market shifts again.

You noticing it too in SoCal? LMAO. Where are you based if you don’t mind me asking 😅

I highly recommend Nordic Plains Aviation in Minnesota. I got my CFI and CFII in 3 weeks and I can’t say enough good things about them. They’re fantastic people who don’t just want you to pass but want you to be able to instruct. Highly recommend giving them a call, feel free to message me if you want more info too

Midwest Corporate Air is awesome! “Accelerated” means exactly what it says. There’s no shortcuts in that program, you’re just spending every waking moment either in ground school, studying, or flying until you finish. If that sounds like something you’d enjoy then it’s the perfect route for you. The other part of the “accelerated” program is that you’re guaranteed that a DPE will be ready for you when you’re signed off, no waiting. They advertise 10 days but I think 2-3 weeks is more realistic for the average pilot.
The instructors really care about teaching concepts on a deep level. They value understanding the fundamentals and being able to explain things clearly and knowing how to back everything up with an FAA publication.
My favorite part of this flight school was the people. The owners and senior instructors are kind, helpful, welcoming, and care about their students. I traveled halfway across the country but it felt like home.

We have heard varying reports on MCA. How recently was your experience there?
