I've always been curious if these tamales. How bad are they?
Accomplished_Meet230@reddit
I make a tamale casserole with them and eat it with Fritos
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
I'm going to try that
Accomplished_Meet230@reddit
My mom would add a can of chili and then cover it in cheese. Also dump the tamale juice out I forgot to do that one time and it was pretty gross lol.
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
They taste like a rolled corn dough with chili sauce if your hungry they will do especially if I are on a budget 1.25 at Dollar Tree
doug1963@reddit
They are much better if you get a can of Hormel Chili No Beans to use as a sauce. Don't forget to unwrap the tamales before you put the sauce on them!
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Thanks I'll try that
SlipperyGibbet@reddit
Crap I gotta try them
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
If u add cheese they taste better but unfortunately I had none
SlipperyGibbet@reddit
I hope for you to have more cheese and food and energy and cheese soon
ArtNo7221@reddit
Did you get hacked by a dog?
SlipperyGibbet@reddit
Why, you got cheese??
2Braincell2Furious@reddit
I was told there would be updog
ActualKrillin@reddit
what’s updog?
onamonapizza@reddit
Gotcha!
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Thank you o get paid Friday
Princess_Slagathor@reddit
Dang.. did you at least have hot sauce or salsa?
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Yes
SplodeyDope@reddit
Don't eat the paper.
Princess_Slagathor@reddit
Man... last time I had them, I put them in a bowl, heated them, and put them away once they cooled. Put them in the microwave, cheese on top, salsa, hot sauce, then went to dig in. Realized the paper was still on.
Alcohol makes you stupid.
Grigori_the_Lemur@reddit
Correction: Stupider. But ohhhh yeahhh.
Princess_Slagathor@reddit
I'm actually pretty smrt when sober.
Grigori_the_Lemur@reddit
Me too, but then I drink and disprove the notion.
Grigori_the_Lemur@reddit
If you at the paper at least you have some fiber, because the food has none.
SlipperyGibbet@reddit
Lol duly noted, gracias
Miserable-Ad5401@reddit
I loved them as a teenager, just never buy them now that I live in Texas because there are better alternatives readily accessible pretty much year round. Every now and then I get nostalgic and think about picking up a can.
Various-Salt-7738@reddit
Imo the only way to enjoy a tamale is when you buy a grocery bag full from a Mexican Matriarch in the Walmart parking lot
Normal-Top-1985@reddit
Hormel tamales are not tamales. It's more like a ravioli.
Bthnt@reddit
How about from an abuelita on the beach in Suayulita?
jazerlu@reddit
Chef boyardee ravioli honestly. Very very similar.
Flutterwander@reddit
They are not terrible per se, but you definitely want some good hot sauce and cheese to add on.
SkynetLurking@reddit
It is to tamales what chef boyardee is to spaghetti
QueezyF@reddit
Honestly, they taste closer to Chef Boyardee ravioli than actual tamales.
Pan_Fried_Puppies@reddit
You sold me on these. I want notions of spicy chef boyardee.
katamaritumbleweed@reddit
Years ago, there used to be canned chicken tamales in a green sauce. They tested a bit less like canned ravioli.
SkynetLurking@reddit
Normal-Top-1985@reddit
They are not tamales. They are not good. But they are cheap and filling.
xpietoe42@reddit
Ive tried them. They’re kind of gross. They are wrapped in sauce and paper and oil. You have to remove the paper carefully. The taste is less than average, but if your hungry, it’s not bad. I think the beef chili from hormel is a better choice for around the same price!
AdExcellent1745@reddit
like salty mushy corn-y chef boyardee. 4/10, but I respect them. wouldn't buy again but would be happy to see a can in the zombie apocalypse.
DarthDoobz@reddit
They're pretty bad out of the can. Decently salvageable when heated up
Spurnout@reddit
I got them out of curiosity, they're horrible.
LootingRail11@reddit
The tamales being corn-based always makes me wish I’d made Jiffy cornbread instead. I’m never glad that I ate them.
The cost ends up about the same and it only takes a half hour or so to make the cornbread.
commiPANDA@reddit
Unhappy because of the calories because of the what they might do to your stomach?
LootingRail11@reddit
They’re edible, it’s just that the canned corn dough reminds me that I could’ve had something hot out of the oven. I know the whole time I’m eating them that I settled because I was lazy, basically.
But yeah, they’re fine with your favorite hot sauce. I’ve had much worse.
MrScottimus@reddit
think chef boyardee of tamales. Chef Bañuelos.
commiPANDA@reddit
Lol ok. I'm sold.
Salt_Finger_6863@reddit
They are ghetto mini tamales, they are not that terrible.
klrcow@reddit
Basically disappointment incarnate.
baltama@reddit
they're basically to tamales what the wontons in maruchan instant wonton are to wontons. i fuckin love em though
Yodzilla@reddit
Herdez makes some seriously good sauce. I love their roasted verde.
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Agree delicious
Alewort@reddit
I'm not sure I can defend these as actually being tamales, but as a different food sometimes they hit the spot.
onamonapizza@reddit
But it says tamales right there on the can!
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Agree but it's better than hearing my stomach growl lol
SFDessert@reddit
I thought the can said "Hornet Tamales" and thought I was on /r/somnigastronomy
Towel_of_Babel@reddit
Why not just grab a takeout on the way home
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Don't get paid till Friday or I would have
Midnout26@reddit
how’s the avocado cilantro sauce? i love the verde by them but haven’t tried that one yet
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
It's delicious also have to other flavors 💯
MrScottimus@reddit
that herdez sauce is incredible
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
💯👍🏻🔝Delicious
Eggxactly1001@reddit
Get some popcorn powdered cheese to sprinkle on those things! Adds extra flavors.
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Will try that
Woodwhat74@reddit
That green sauce is heaven
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
💯🔝👍🏻
HIGH-IQ-over-9000@reddit
Too tired to warm it up in the microwave?
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Yes was 12 hours on my feet if I wasn't so hungry I would have just gone to bed without eating
spidermaniscool24@reddit
Remaining energy was used constructing this post
SiphiliSx@reddit
Been there. I've eaten many a Great Value ravioli, room temp, straight out of the can.
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Room temperature can food is not bad
Miserable-Ad5401@reddit
Not the gif I was after but here ya go.
rasta_pineapple2@reddit
There's no way this was better than just microwaving it in a plate for one minute.
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
At room temperature there not bad
TheLoneAccenter@reddit
This is somehow worse than my cold spaghettios out the can
MrElectricPigeon@reddit
I have that same taquiera sauce in my cabinet. It's bangin
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
Yes and delicious also comes on 2 other flavors
SkynetLurking@reddit
Empty the can into a small casserole dish.
Drown it in a can of hormel chili.
Cover in shredded cheddar.
Bake for half an hour.
Serve on rice with some beans.
Enjoy your impending diarrhea
springpaper1@reddit
Bro they couldn't even warm it up. Lol
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
If can is at room temperature it's not bad but if refrigerated then yes nasty need to warm them
PsychologicalArm2138@reddit
Can I eat it first, that wasn’t a step listed
slugboi@reddit
All of the best meals are precursors to diarrhea.
the1npc@reddit
bro at least zap in the microwave
mellow_shadowhq@reddit
Adding the taco sauce straight into the can is actually a pro move for this level of exhaustion.
Manger-Babies@reddit

👍🏻💯
NoseBooperOnTheLoose@reddit
I do this all the time; if its in a can, im eating it cold out of the can.
DuchessOfCelery@reddit
Dammit, you ate your apocalypse food. What's left in your pantry for the end of the world?
etherealtwo@reddit
Tried once. Disgusting. Replace with spaghetti-os or something.
Jluvcoffee@reddit
Just throw this in the microwave in a bowl and pull off the wrapper prior ive done that plenty of times
twichy1983@reddit
Hell yeah
KindaKrayz222@reddit
I grew up with these tamales. They're not that bad, actually. Hell, I've eaten Chef Boyardee after a shift. No shame.
Next-Drink8593@reddit
I agree with this dude.
Minimum-Act6859@reddit
Those tamales are always a great meal to have in the cupboard.
isaacfrost0@reddit
Ex gf introduced me to that cilantro sauce, best thing l got got from that relationship, that is S tier sauce.
MSnap@reddit
Would
Grigori_the_Lemur@reddit
I... uh... actually like the damn things. Are they tamales? No. Are they something obe should ever eat? Also, no. Do I want them every time I am sick or want comfort food? Yes.
MRG_1977@reddit
Almost inevitable.
I_Suck_At_This_Too@reddit
Too tired to bother tonight too. My dinner is a hamburger bun, a stack of saltine crackers and a large glass of water.
KazukiSendo@reddit
My microwave died, and I can't afford one right now, so most of my meals are cold in a bowl or straight out of the can.
Princess_Slagathor@reddit
Got the statutory grape to drink, solid.
Inedible-denim@reddit
I grew up on these and respect it. It's been over a decade since I've had these though but they always hit the spot when my funds were lacking
ProgenitorOfMidnight@reddit
I love a good tamale, those are not good tamales... However the hold a special place in my heart and about once a month I pig out on 2 cans
NectarOfTheBussy@reddit
do they have a chicken version? id give these a fucken shot easy
Cucufornuts@reddit (OP)
I believe yes and Turkey
oxnardhard@reddit
Canned turkey tamales, chefs kiss
RaptorJB@reddit
I love those. My grandma was Mexican and made tamales from scratch. I still ate the canned ones in a pinch if I couldn't have hers.
pilsnerd11@reddit
A can only takes 60 seconds in the microwave to warm up
The00Taco@reddit
Don't have time to wait. Must eat now
kebmob@reddit
My guilty pleasure 😋🤘
monkeysandpickles@reddit
If you do warm them up, throw a slice of American cheese on top for maximum enjoyment. My favorite nostalgia meal.
