Got this beauty today, an original MGC Tokyo Plug-Fire Thompson Model 1921 Submachinegun. Had some minor rust and finish wear, but some deep cleaning + new grease has it running smooth as butter. Weighs 9lbs 11oz unloaded. Has the correct nice dual rear sight leaf, top charging handle, and Cutts compensator. Dont know date of manufacture, but sometime when MGC was still in business so 90s at the latest, likely earlier.

I take it that "Plug Fire" is a way of saying "blank fire only"?

Basically yes, plug fire cartridges work with small explosive caps (using an explosive that sits somewhere on the lower end between blackpowder and smokeless) in each cartridge, the brass is very thick and screws together in two halves and is basically infinitely reusable, you just clean it and put a new cap charge in it and you are good to go.

Thats actually really cool. I've seen videos of firearms replicas in Japan that "fire" some kind of blank that makes a lot of sparks but little else, I would bet that those are also plug fire.
Thanks for the lesson!
