Upgrade 5800x to 5800x3d or hold for am6

As title says I'm looking to upgrade my 5800x for 5800x3d. I don't know if i should get the upgrade and use the 5800x3d for 4-5 years or hold off for a couple years till am6 gets announced. My current build is 7900xtx, 32gb ram 3200mhz, playing at 1440p. I live in Canada so switching to am5 will be upwards of $1200 if i get a bundle from a retailer.

I actually think that the 5800x3d would be a decent upgrade and you can sell your 5800x for at least $120 and recoup a third of the cost. Just be careful when unseating your cpu cooler to remove your cpu.

I have same dilemma except with a 5700x and 9060XT.
Honestly, i'd just save the possible $350, time and effort outside of work to install the new CPU and wait until AM6 becomes more attainable over time, the 5700x does everything i want it to do rn and for the foreseeable future.
Yes yes, the 1% lows are better and some other min-max PC settings, but even Hardware Unboxed did a hole video of them both side by side and the difference is.....rather non-impressive in my opinion.
Tho i always play at 60fps locked on 1440p high and yes, pull out the stats and 1% lows may look funny sometimes, but i genuinely never notice it man.
I just play videogames, that's it, save the money and use it on more important stuff, like rent or education.
Otherwise, if you have spare cash all over, do what you want.

The 5800X3D is about 25\~30% faster than the 5800X, and AMD has officially announced its re-release at $320USD (so probably, around $1000 CAD, give or take however many "f*ck canada"s get trumped on...). That should be less expensive than going with AM5 for similar performance to the 7600X.
Hopefully that'll do pretty well for a while. The 5800X3D and 7600X are killer gaming CPUs still. Really the only modern game that it feels a little "slow" for is Spacemarine 2, but a 9800X3D feels a bit slow for that game, so it's not really the CPU that's the problem. And it'll still average a little over 100fps in that game.

Did you check the benchmarks if the upgrade will actually benefit you noticeably?
I upgraded from 5600 to 5800x3d and I'm happy with that, but I don't think I'd do the same from 5800x.

Personally, I would buy the 5800X3D when it re-releases soon.
Note that yesterday AMD committed to support for AM5 until at least 2029. The way I read that is that the next two generations will be on AM5 and it might not be until 2030 or 2031 that AM6 gets released.

Does your current system run all the games you want to play to your satisfaction? If you’re not playing CPU intensive games, or playing on a high refresh monitor, it probably won’t make a huge difference.
I think that 5800x3d is laughably overpriced and I would wait until you’re getting a bigger jump and ram prices settle back down.
