Anyone tied in with an old-school vacuum/sewing machine shop?

So I was on a cleaning sub, and they were talking about how even the best vacuums get less suction over time.
I mentioned that we used to get the cleaned regularly. About once every other year, we would take all the vacuums and sewing machines into the same little mom-and-pop stores that would service and sell both things.
There was crickets. One person said that would probably cost what a vacuum costs, nowadays. Yet I see brands that are over $1000.
Then I realized that I haven’t taken my vacuums in for a decade.
Are these stores still around? I still bring my sewing machines in, but the store recently closed.
One idea I have for the lack of professional vacuum cleanings is that carpet is out of vogue. We have rugs, though, but vacuuming has fallen way down on the chore list.
Anyway, any of you have some good inside info on this? I feel like we should still be getting our vacuums maintained.

I think my parents got our vacuum repaired once in the 80s....at my house we got rid of the carpet so just use a stick every now and then.

There's one near me. I called them up and asked about giving my machine a once-over. The lady there spent the whole phone call talking about how difficult it was to find parts, how it could take a long time to get anything done, blah blah blah. Then she started trying to convince me to buy a new vacuum... From her.
Apparently they don't want to fix stuff any more?

I deleted my initial comment. I thought this was my local page looking for recs. But yeah I see them around and use the local vacuum guy.

We have a small chain of them in Seattle, but I think they only service a few high-end brands like Miele.

V & J Vacuums in Lynbrook. I don’t think they do sewing machines though. I saw some shops in Freeport for that but didn’t stop in.

I bought my Sebo Felix through a local vacuum shop here in Chicago. It's been a couple years so might be time to have them do a tuneup.

We have local places that will do that.
I never understood how Dyson claimed that their vacuums ‘never lose suction.’ Their vacuums are drama queens, probably some of the worst junk out there and for a high price, to boot! And, they clog when you look at them funny.
My mother’s old Electrolux never had any issues…

I love my Dyson. I think I have had it 20 years. I like that it can be disassembled for cleaning.

Truth! My mother had her Electrolux for probably 40years. We even had an Electrolux guy that we'd get bags from and he could repair if needed

There's a vacuum place about 6 miles from me & a Singer/sewing place about 3 miles from me. I've been to the vacuum place before for a replacement tank for my carpet cleaner.

There's a sew-vac shop down the street from us, and I have used it for both. Recently got rid of our nearly 20 year old Kenmore bag vacuum cleaner for a mostly plastic bagless Bissell. I'm pretty sure it won't last, but it's so much better I don't care.

I just take my vacuum apart and clean it.
My sewing machine goes into the shop because its got a "computer" in it and its fussy.

They're around. But I bet repair and maintenance side is sewing machine heavy. Also if you're buying an expensive quilting machine you want to buy it in person.

There is a sewing shop near us who work on mine and they do good work but sewing lady always looks at me funny?...suspiciously? I think bcz I look like a mechanic or sweaty landscaper not a stitcher. Your comment about fewer rugs made me think, yeah that makes sense. Plus new ones are so CHEEP these days for the amount of vacc-ing people need to do . I worked next to the last vacuum shop I knew of in town. Vac man said he did a reasonable amount of maint and repairs but he made his money servicing whole-house installed vacs. Closed now.

I have 3 Vac/Sew shops where I live. But, my area still has a lot of various repair shops for just about anything. I took my boots to a "Cobbler"...a few years back for a repair.

We have a store in our town literally called "Discount Vac and Sew."
And no I have never taken our cheap ass Kenmore vacuum there to be repaired.
