Break-in only to look at my registration and insurance info?

I genuinely have no idea where to post this, if it doesn't belong here let me know.

Yesterday, I walked out to my car (2022 Corolla) and found the driver's door cracked. I have never left it open before as the car has a feature that yells at me when I forget to close it. Upon entering, I found the registration and insurance cards sitting loosely folded on the driver's seat, the storage space between the front seats where I usually keep them open (which it hasn't been since I got the cards). Nothing else in the car was touched; i don't keep anything valuable there, but I do keep a few tools and such that don't seem to have been moved. The car does not handle any differently and shows no signs of other tampering; without other options to handle an emergency, I had to drive it 30 minutes through heavy rain, and it worked just fine.

I live alone in a complex where I don't know anyone in a relatively safe area; I don't think it's a prank, and I've never had anything similar to this happen to me or my car.

Is this something anyone recognizes? Are there steps I should be taking? No one I know has any idea what this might be about and I have no idea where to go for advice.
