FeedingTheBadWolf@reddit
Uhh... Yeah, you are, cuz that's exactly what this is.
Looks like the one at The Dome
mackief3000@reddit
Its the water palace in Hamilton
NoVictory4698@reddit
I thought it was the aquatec in motherwell
MilesyBoy303@reddit
The outdoor bit at the aquatec was peak 90s at the time
Jambronius@reddit
There's no buildings like that near the dome.
Leather-Animal-7597@reddit
You're definitely "not daft."
You're on here for ATTENTION and it seems to be working š.
No one is that daft and I set my standards extremely low.
normalbot9999@reddit
That pool is so dirty. I wish this was some kind of urbex shot of a closed down pool, because it looks unfit for humans. Why can't we clean anything anymore?
Leather-Animal-7597@reddit
Cost of living mate
pokaprophet@reddit
Itās what your parents said and Iāve seen them all over Europe
AidsPD@reddit
It IS the door to the outdoor pool that only opens in hot weather!
ceestars@reddit
The one I go to is open all year round. It's fun to go out in the warm steaming water- leads out to a jet propelled lazy river loop thing. I normally don't do not than one lap when it's super cold though.
ArmchairAnarchist00@reddit
Which pool is this (can pm me). Iām looking for a pool with a lazy river
Scared-Ad-2121@reddit
Center parcs have brilliant rapids, not sure about the other ones but the Longleat one has a lazy river too. It's not the fanciest you get through in about 30-40 seconds though. The rapids truuuly is fantastic though thoroughly recommend
ArmadilloFront1087@reddit
Yep itās great, just careful around the deep parts of it. You can really whack your knee off the underwater step bit if youāre not careful!
ceestars@reddit
https://www.placesleisure.org/centres/the-triangle/
There are actually indoor and outdoor lazy rivers.
It's fun enough, but I wouldn't say it's worth travelling more than an hour to.
MattyLePew@reddit
I absolutely love the Triangle, but completely agree, if it isnāt within 30-45 minutes of where you are, it likely isnāt worth the travel.
ksvfkoddbdjskavsb@reddit
Bluestone has a good lazy river that goes outside - only problem is that it connects either side of the main pool rather than being a proper loop so you have to dodge people as you swim across.
MesoamericanMorrigan@reddit
I went to the Basingstoke Aquadrome recently which also has slides
davehemm@reddit
Went to a swimming pool in northern Finland last Christmas, they had one of these and it was -25C - was a bit nippy getting out of the outside pool and into the hot tubs.
Undeniable-Quitter@reddit
Donāt be daft!
Jonesy1966@reddit
I have a condo in Dallas, TX, that has this same swim-though
OnceIWasYou@reddit
I believe it's the build up of regret for buying a swimming pool in the UK. It seeps out of the pores.
mamafish21@reddit
Maybe you should listen to your parents. They're right.
Dreadheaddanski@reddit
The very rarely used entrance to the outside section
Zephinism@reddit
I had this at my local pool in Switzerland it would open in the summer to extend the lazy river, so not a UK only thing.
QueenSashimi@reddit
They had one of these at this amazing swimming pool I used to go to as a kid, in Germany. Always fun in the winter to go through those cold plastic flappy things to the outside where there'd be steam coming off the pool.
SoftwareFew9236@reddit
That looks like a gross pool
Bgtobgfu@reddit
Thatās what I was thinking
jamescisv@reddit
There used to be some at Doncaster Dome, and the flaps were all different kinds of disgusting and slimey.
So, naturally, we used to dare each other to lick 'em.....
Bigluce@reddit
OK, enough about the women there, what about the swimming pool?
tem1985@reddit
Well done. I hated reading it but well done.
Prince_John@reddit
Jesus, my eyes! š«£
AussieManc@reddit
They have these in places in Australia. Admittedly less grim-looking
Bgtobgfu@reddit
Honestly Iāve seen this in many countries. Itās not a UK thing.
Cultural-Summer-2669@reddit
Perth?
MrStilton@reddit
Pretty sure that's in Hamilton.
This-Risk-3737@reddit
That pool looks absolutely disgusting.
Dyllom_4949@reddit (OP)
So yes I am indeed DAFT. I live in Scotland and havenāt been to a pool like this since I was in primary school, this area was never open to my knowledge hence why I couldnāt believe my parents. The area is actually in Motherwell beside Glasgow and was a photo sent to me by my girlfriend.
I am genuinely so happy that this is an outdoor area and I hope next time I go swimming in hot weather I can enjoy it
P.s I will still believe deep in my heart that this is the area they keep the sharks⦠that or the bars beneath the wave pools
Dyllom_4949@reddit (OP)
AGAIN turns out this is Hamilton water palace I am genuinely daft from this can you guys tell me if this is ever open and if this leisure centre has good facilities
firemanlala@reddit
That's the door, for letting in the sharks, when you want to improve your speed training.
Gullflyinghigh@reddit
'I am not that daft' was said with such confidence as well.
shortymcsteve@reddit
They used to have the pool open all year, Iāve swam through those exact doors when snow was on the ground. Itās to keep the heat in, and also to stop bugs and birds coming into the indoor area.
DameKumquat@reddit
Anyone know a pool that has a functioning outdoor lazy river section, in the UK (ideally south)?
I went in one in Austria years ago, and it was dark and snowing, and snow coming down onto your head in the warm water was just magical.
ginfrared@reddit
Whatever it is, I hate it š©
caniuserealname@reddit
You know, you could have walked over and just peaked out the window and seen that your parents were right.Ā
ceffyl_gwyn@reddit
It is a swimming lane to the outside part of the pool. It's not closed off. Those are heavy but movable sheets of plastic you just brush through when swimming through them. They're usually translucent, these just seem a bit aged hence the colour.
RouKyasarin@reddit
It is closed off in this photo. You can see the shutter roller door above it through the window and it leads all the way to the pool floor. :)
thisisgettingdaft@reddit
But when it is open, this is what it is. Leaving a large open gap means cold air streams in. So They have these heavy duty plastic curtains to keep the cold air out.
RouKyasarin@reddit
Oh yeah 100% right about that! I wouldnāt want them touching me so Iād be mermaiding my way under haha. Iāve actually never seen them before personally!
ceffyl_gwyn@reddit
Ah yes
Nevernonethewiser@reddit
It's a door to an outside part of the pool.
They have one at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, that's one place I've seen it in action.
oscarx-ray@reddit
It leads to this outdoor pool.
FeedingTheBadWolf@reddit
OMG IS THIS THE DOME IN DONCASTER??
eventworker@reddit
Nope. buildings outside are far too large and too close.
FeedingTheBadWolf@reddit
Ah. Ok. I haven't been since I was a kid but they had flaps like that there
JuanitaMerkin@reddit
Iāve never seen this in my life.
It looks like that pool used to continue outside but the archway has been blocked up?
OMF1G@reddit
There's pretty clearly a shutter on the outside to open up when they use it!
JuanitaMerkin@reddit
Looks just like the pool tiling to me so hardly āpretty clearā
Really not worth getting so worked up about.
OMF1G@reddit
Not worked up, just letting you know!
It's horizontal lines on a shutter, completely different to the tiles around it.
Maybe not that obvious though I agree!
InitiativeConscious7@reddit
Hamilton pool I presume, it's to the outside pool
WDeranged@reddit
It's there to distract you from all the black mould.
victotororex@reddit
I think thatās Hamilton - the outdoor bit hasnāt been open in about 20 years in my experience :( (those are the doors keeping you in)
Koda614@reddit
It is a doorway that leads to an outdoor pool area. It's closed off in this picture. At one of my local pools that was equipped with that the rule was that it would only open if the outdoor temperature was 20 celcius or above.
Gr3yC4t@reddit
They keep all the sharks in there, let them in at nighttime.
Springyardzon@reddit
Looks like another set of flaps I won't be going in.
Lau_kaa@reddit
It leads to the outdoor pool. I've seen them in the Netherlands.
MeasurementFew4314@reddit
At my local swimming pool it's leads to a permanently shut offoutside area they can't be arsed staffing anymore.
Or at least that's my take.
sc_BK@reddit
That's the entrance to the heavy petting area.
MrKDilkington25@reddit
It's where they keep Jaws the shark.
BerryOk966@reddit
Thats Hamilton Water Palace.
frontroomhog@reddit
If you go to a centreparcs there is a large indoor pool area and some outdoor pools. These are there to help keep the heat in. You go through them to the outside areas. Some caravan parks with onsite pools have them as well. If you have only ever been to a leisure centre then I doubt you have seen them.
Boredpanda31@reddit
One of the swimming pools near me has this.. it's the path to the outdoor pool. In Scotland, it is definitely not open all year round.
NatureNext2236@reddit
Flap
ryanstarman123@reddit
its a door to an outside pool...then clear plastic curtains ontop to stop flys and heat escaping
Pocket_Aces1@reddit
I think you are that daft matey
Agitated_Ad_361@reddit
Outdoor pool doorway⦠daftie
ceestars@reddit
First one I saw was in the Austrian Alps in the mid 80s.
DeapVally@reddit
At one point it was a 'lazy river' that went outside, and back inside, used to have one in my local leisure centre in the 90s. Then they decided fun wasn't worth the maintenance/expense. As is likely the case here.
palpatineforever@reddit
yup that is what it is, pretty sure coral reef bracknell had one back in the day
Crochet-panther@reddit
Definitely a path to the outdoor pool.
RevolutionaryMail747@reddit
Outdoor pool in hot weather
wardyms@reddit
You are that daft it seems.
Crepegamestrong@reddit
It's a path to outside! There's often a bit of pool that goes outdoors, and the flaps act as a door to keep heat indoors and cold air outside
TheKingMonkey@reddit
Itās a way through to the outdoor pool.
