Lot of Slot 1 CPUs came without fan cables. What do I need exactly?

Self-explanatory title.
My PSU also has a fan plug that plugs into the motherboard (440LX). Can I use that to power the fan on the CPU heatsink? The original CPU came with a fanless heatsink.
Can I swap my PII-233's fanless heatsink to my "new" PII-333 or Celeron 400 without worry re: heat dissipation?

The PSU wouldn't normally plug into a fan header on the motherboard. The cable is probably to power a case fan.
Re: Heatsink It may work but Celerons and P3s generally had fans which clipped on, rather than just a heatsink. Depends how beefy the heatsink is

It wasn’t uncommon in the late 90s/early 2000s for a PSU to have a cable that plugged into a fan header on a motherboard, it allowed the motherboard software to monitor fan speed.

Ah, that makes sense. There's a "case" fan on the PSU (attached to but not inside the PSU) and a fan shroud that partially wraps around the CPU heatsink. The heatsink itself is this bad boy (not my picture)

I've added case fans with external cables on PSUs where the fan died. Did it look like a bodge/fix?

No, it's OEM. Gateway G6-233.
