Mavs plan arena, entertainment complex at old Valley View Mall site, leaving Downtown Dallas

Downtown season pass residents are punching the air right now
walnut100@reddit
Just going to cancel tbh. $15k to drive to Valley View? Fuck off with that.
yellowsun_97@reddit
And I imagine the prices will go up to pay for the new build!
ericl666@reddit
And, of course, no DART line goes there. I really wanna know if there will be any way for them to add that - as it is huge. I much prefer going to games on DART vs driving.
cwsharpless@reddit
There's a bus route (22, from Addison or Forest Lane). But that is a massive downgrade from the current setup nonetheless.
NYerInTex@reddit
No one who is paying NBA ticket prices is taking a bus to the games. Sadly our bus systems are for those who have no other choice rather than proving a by choice option
frotc914@reddit
I moved from Dallas to Vegas a few years ago. Here, they just run a bunch of special "game day express" busses when the Raiders or Golden Knights play. It's basically a park+ride system. They have 6 or 7 pickup spots, drop you off right at the arena, and bring you back after the game. Instead of driving 45 minutes and paying $40 to park, you drive 5-10 minutes, pay $4 round trip, and get to drink on the bus. Also the cops let the busses through the arena traffic first on the way in and out.
It's honestly fantastic, works great, is cheap, reduces congestion, makes money, doesn't require a whole train, etc. Everybody wins except the blood sucking parking garages.
Round_Holiday4693@reddit
thats basically what J. Gilligan's does for AT&T stadium and its awesome
WITX89@reddit
Same things with Cubs games to Wrigley. Park somewhere, hop on a bus full of drunk Cubs fans, and show up outside of Wrigley 15 minutes later.
jffadvisors@reddit
The people who sweep the floor will take the bus.
5yrup@reddit
People say the same about the Stars and yet the trains are always packed. Just about every time I've gone to an event at the AAC, no matter how expensive, the trains have been busy. I will admit I've never gone to a Mavs game, but it would really surprise me if they weren't busy as well.
NYerInTex@reddit
I’m a huge transit advocate so don’t get me wrong, I want to see it work.
But for a vast majority of this user group there is a huge difference between the two nodes. Many who will use trains won’t use buses. It’s just reality.
Not ALL, but a vast majority
5yrup@reddit
I agree. The busses are just also going to get stuck in traffic. They'll be absolutely terrible by comparison especially for such an event.
I see that compared to the Bell Centre, which has multiple train lines going through the attached big train station. And tons of housing actually somewhat affordable by normal people within walking distance. Such a better transit experience.
NYerInTex@reddit
I grew up on Long Island as a Mets fan (talk about a lifetime of pain). I could drive a few minutes, jump on a train and 30-40 min total time from door to door be at the ballpark… add another 15 or so minutes to get the Knicks games at MSG.
Getting home was even better not trying to fight all of the exit traffic leaving the same time
thekamakaji@reddit
As someone who has, I disagree. Also, the venue will likely be used for other events too
NYerInTex@reddit
I don’t want to underplay that bus lines are important. But for ticket holders? It’s not going to be a widely used option in its current incarnation
cwsharpless@reddit
At the rate things are going, I'm not sure if anyone will be able to pay NBA ticket prices...
Pecan_Artist@reddit
That's why I go to Wings games. I can afford great seeata, they're moving downtown and an easy Dart ride for me. It's a win for me. I really don't see a point in driving while buzzed.
BamaPhils@reddit
And another one in the 237 but still agreed
bigharrycox@reddit
Best I can do is $75 dollar parking
Wise-ask-1967@reddit
Don't forget about the giant tax brakes for the owners cause you know job Creators and what not
Round_Holiday4693@reddit
nvm the job losses as Victory Plaza bars and restaurants start really struggling
imamakeyoucry@reddit
Dude I went to the Carolina Hurricanes game the other night when I was visiting NC and every parking lot was $75. It was insane.
valiantdistraction@reddit
That's the money the current team owners aren't getting at AAC that they want
jffadvisors@reddit
If you are taking DART to the game, the Mavs do not care about you as a fan. The new ownership is only interested in monetizing their investment, which includes you paying to park and spending a fortune on concessions at the game.
Cuban may have been the last benevolent billionaire
Sad_Application_8200@reddit
well didn’t Cuban make the biggest mistake of his life being GREEDY!
Kirjath-Sepher@reddit
I’d put that at 15% chance of happening by the time the stadium opens. Planning, environmental review, engineering, land acquisition, and construction would all have to be completed and approved in 5 years. Considering the recent attacks on DART by city councils, there’s probably not enough support for it.
The dumonts would prefer the parking revenue anyway.
WITX89@reddit
It took 6 years of construction for the silver line to be converted. There is no current railline to convert, plans, or ownership of property to make it happen. The chance of a functional line in 5 years is 0%.
I won't even add a .00001%.
Alivaronas@reddit
I doubt it will ever happen, but a theoretical DART line going down the DNT corridor could serve both these theoretical arenas at Willow Bend and. Valley Fair, as well as the Legacy Shopping area in Plano.
And even bigger stretch would be Frisco joining DART and then that line could extend to Stonebriar serving the Rough Riders park, and then going all the way to Frisco Square where FC Dallas plays.
But that would be way to fucking awesome to ever be built.
CarltonBigglesworth@reddit
If a DNT corridor were to happen, it would stop at The Galleria and not a few blocks east at Valley View.
Consistent_Reward@reddit
I support this message, but if Frisco ever joins DART, we will have passed an amendment to the state Constitution to make it happen, and I highly doubt people will pay 9.25% sales tax for that.
rsf0626@reddit
It was already such a fight to even keep DART from being voted out of Addison. No chance in hell its getting expanded
DoctorJiveTurkey@reddit
They should have built a dart line along 635 when it was redone
Neuroavalanche@reddit
It's light rail, they can build it easily. You may have to walk a bit, but it's doable.
BamaPhils@reddit
Not happening. NTTA would NEVER allow something that would cut down on the monopoly of service of moving people between Dallas and Frisco
vivalakellye@reddit
A Mavs shuttle from the LBJ station wouldn’t be too terrible.
radioref@reddit
Maybe HP can throw their 3 Vans into the transportation pool that they replaced DART with /s
(or however many they bought, I’ve seen them driving around now)
Additional-Hyena721@reddit
in the previous plans for Dallas Midtown they proposed a connector from Addison station (so Silver Line only) that would run down Inwood (existing old rail lines) and then turn on Alpha and through Galleria (elevated) station on new floor. Could be economically justified and necessary for traffic mgmt.
d3vtec@reddit
The adelsons are going to follow the Jerry Jones model and require parking and make a lot of money off of it.
ShimeUnter@reddit
they don't want that. What they want is to charge you an arm-and-leg for parking.
Elegant_Enrique@reddit
RIP downtown Dallas. It’s time for them to make some serious changes.
upperdeckerdad@reddit
I’d like to see downtown prioritize pedestrians by closing off vehicle traffic on Main St from Deep Ellum through downtown. Restaurants could move tables outdoors for euro style dining al fresco. Bikes could actually use the bike lanes without fear of collisions with cars. And fuck Miriam.
southernmayd@reddit
Sure but no one is gonna sit outside for their meal in Texas for like 8 months out of the year thanks to the weather
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
?? Maybe four months, June through September, and even then it’s manageable with fans and shade. People pay good money to fry like sausages and buy overpriced beer at the fair for gods sake.
southernmayd@reddit
You gonna be eating outside in December, January and Feb where its regularly freezing or in the 30s/40s? Or mid-late May when it's 95 outside?
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
Dawg I was wearing shorts on Christmas last year. This ain’t Chicago, if it’s cold in the winter it’ll be warm within a few days
Round_Holiday4693@reddit
people are fucking allergic to cool urbanism ideas lol
TheDakestTimeline@reddit
Lol, February is the only month too cold for al fresco dining, and heaters are a thing
vladamir_the_impaler@reddit
Yeah I don't care what anyone says, Dallas is not an outdoor friendly city. It's been strangely not hot as all hell the past 1+ years or so but that was a fluke. It's just not possible to enjoy the outdoors in this city for the majority of the year.
intransigent_bunny@reddit
That's why no establishment in Dallas has a patio.
What are you talking about?
valiantdistraction@reddit
Most patios are enclosed with evaporative coolers, fans, and heaters
WITX89@reddit
Are those impossible to recreate in this situation?
Thespindrift@reddit
Have you never been to truck yard during the summer? People just tend to go out later. It's not like outdoor life completely stops when its hot out.
DizzyDentist22@reddit
There were exactly 19 days this whole past winter that reached freezing lol. 4 out of 5 days through the winter, the temperature didn't even reach freezing. You're overexaggerating things. I ate outside all the time this winter
bikerdude214@reddit
Getting harassed by homeless people would kinda kill one's appetite.
DizzyDentist22@reddit
Yup. Even throughout the summer, eating outside can be well managed through shade, fans, fly fans, and misters. There's still plenty of locations throughout Dallas where I regularly eat through summer outside
filmgasm91@reddit
That’s the opposite. There’s only 90 days where it’s absolutely miserable
rat_penis@reddit
This is the one thing everyone forgets when they start talking about "walkable downtown". You'd need a shit ton of greenery downtown to make it pedestrian friendly and beat the heat effect you get from all the concrete and asphalt. Dallas doesn't have that kind of budget to install and maintain that.
tacmed85@reddit
Shhhhhhh. You're not supposed to use logic when discussing outdoor spaces in Texas
lucidJG@reddit
There are dozens of world cities hotter than Texas where people regularly walk places.
DMTryp@reddit
downtown in the summer smells like a sauna full or urine and feces.
they have to deal with the unhoused issue and that's just going to get worse sadly
frotc914@reddit
Yeah but are they fatter than Texas? Didn't think so.
slunk3@reddit
Re-open up the tunnels. Backrooms are in right now
AbueloOdin@reddit
I eat outside year round. The key is designing a space with that in mind.
DizzyDentist22@reddit
8 months out of the year not being able to eat outside is a huge overexaggeration. I eat outside regularly in Dallas for probably 8 months out of the year lol
Dirks_Knee@reddit
Sounds great for like 2 months of the year. No one is eating outside when it's 100 or 50.
myopic1@reddit
I have been saying this for years, except I’ll add that hey should close Harwood from City Hall to Klyde Warren Park as well.
I’m sure there would be more than a handful of intersections that would have to be managed, but it would reprioritize downtown as being for people that are actually downtown.
TXCCDFW@reddit
Upperdeckedad for mayor! I will support his standing on the throne! A man who had great ideas and how to make them happen!
Additional-Hyena721@reddit
Could be similar to how you have AirTrains connect Neward and LAX to the city’s primary metro services via a station. The Addison DART station is currently at the foot of what was already approved for an $50M blow up of its city events /convention center- this could justify expansion and reimagining of that DART station. Still Silver line only though.
intransigent_bunny@reddit
I tried biking to work for a week and almost got taken out on Main St. twice. I would totally bike to these establishments if they did this.
If you're reading this and your instinct is to say "but it'll never happen, this place is built around cars," you should join us in pushing for it instead. Every bike on the street means you have one fewer car to compete with, one fewer road needing your tax dollars for constant maintenance, etc.
vinhluanluu@reddit
I think casinos and hotels are incoming.
AttentionSalt3269@reddit
🤞
GravitationalEddie@reddit
RIP 635 traffic! With HEB coming in down the street it's gonna be even more hell.
Boo-Bees67@reddit
Dude they already reworked that whole corridor. Everything will be fine. Just use the express if traffic is bad
GravitationalEddie@reddit
I'm sorry, did you just say, 'just use the $s'? I'm lucky to have enough for gas.
Boo-Bees67@reddit
Yeah just use the express lane. Super cheap. Only $5 every time
Pecan_Artist@reddit
The Wings will be there. I enjoy those games and will gladly support them and downtown.
DowntownDallasSucks@reddit
Firing DDI leadership is a good start.
dchirs@reddit
Propaganda
jffadvisors@reddit
oh NOW it is time to make some serious changes?
Elguapo69@reddit
Didn’t this same general area complain about a HEB opening up because of the traffic it would add and try to block that? They ought to love this I guess.
metalstuds@reddit
Dallas doesn’t want to give up their downtown site. The arena, as nice as it is, is old, especially from a player and worker personnel. Other newer arenas are superior to what AAC offers players and staff. And these areas are incapable of being redone. They have to shut down for a season.
It’s not ideal, no. But for all their plans and desires as owners the choice gives them flexibility to offer the public, players and player’s families , a better environment.
KeyEnvironmental2090@reddit
moving to japan
After_Term5658@reddit
Christ.
Significant_Fox9290@reddit
I guess Stars to Plano will probably happen now.
PumpkinCarvingisFun@reddit
Why wouldn't the Stars stay at AAC?
Significant_Fox9290@reddit
Lease expires in 2031. They probably want to be able to design their own district since they can’t get in with the Mav’s.
vayvayvayva@reddit
It still doesn’t make sense bc in 2030 they can buy the entire enchilada (parking, mall, arena) for $1mil
Kinda feels like Adelson’s just trying to consolidate as much of Dallas as possible
DoubleBookingCo@reddit
I agree but from an asset perspective why buy an aging stadium which will probably cost more in maintenance than its sales value (minus the land) - when you can develop a stadium and whole district around it, own the parking, own the retail and office as landlord. And then sell off the buildings for $100-500M a piece once they are leased up, or borrow against them for your next development.
vayvayvayva@reddit
That’s why I said consolidate—as in she wants both.
DoubleBookingCo@reddit
True why not both. That would be truly evil. It should be sold to the wings or the next user idk
vayvayvayva@reddit
I agree, but unfortunately the money here is particularly soulless. Always has been.
jffadvisors@reddit
The city of Dallas picked a side in the fight between the Mavs and the Stars. They chose the Mavs. No way the Stars now stay on as a tenant in the city
cwsharpless@reddit
Because the new hot thing is to own all the land around the stadium and lease it out to bars and hotels and the like. They can't do that at AAC since everything's already owned and built out.
mrsooner@reddit
because the people who will buy stuff at the arena(s), retail, and hotel are closer to or in Collin County now. Buying power of downtown and anywhere south is gone.
Lightzephyrx@reddit
100%. The Shops at Willow Bend is the news headlines location so far.
Significant_Fox9290@reddit
I don’t love it.
Lightzephyrx@reddit
More like fucking hate it lol
Significant_Fox9290@reddit
😆😆😆
theregoesgravitee@reddit
Dillard’s sold their land directly to the Stars
CureTBA@reddit
I’m just glad they’re finally building something at Valley View. Although I’m a bit pessimistic, that place is cursed and I feel like I’ve heard about like 5 developments in the past 10 years that just never materialized there.
bigharrycox@reddit
It's cursed because it's a terrible location. I don't know what the Mavs are thinking.
khaki75230@reddit
What about it makes it a terrible location? Not disputing, just curious.
bigharrycox@reddit
Even though it's only 10-15 miles north of downtown, it makes the trip 20x more difficult for anyone coming from the west side.
It's also adjacent enough to the Harry Hines/asian massage area that it becomes 'scary' for suburban folks.
There's just nothing there. When's the last time you ever heard anyone say 'let's visit the Valley View area.' It took 40 years and two ballparks for the area around the Rangers to amount to anything. It's feels similar to that.
DoubleBookingCo@reddit
The area around the rangers stadium is frankly a shithole. Texas live that sits empty except for game days, a hotel connected to two stadiums, a sea of parking lots, and a wal mart
Dirks_Knee@reddit
635 can be a mess, getting in and out of there at the tail end of rush hour is going to be an issue. And much of the immediate surrounding are has gotten run down. Of course, this is going to bring in a huge amount of gentrification as all the lower rent housing in the area will be demolished and redeveloped, the area will be unrecognizable by the time the arena opens.
zeroonetw@reddit
Nothing wrong with the location. Just crap owners for the past 15 years.
theregoesgravitee@reddit
Does anyone know what this means for the American Airlines Center? Will it be torn down? It’s a great building a shame if it goes away completely
DoubleBookingCo@reddit
Dallas Wings, concerts, comedy shows, Arena Football, minor league hockey, indoor soccer?
soonerfreak@reddit
The Wings, more concerts, maybe a PWHL team eventually, it's not going anywhere.
HenrikCrown@reddit
I thought City Hall was moving there?
nickgomez@reddit
Monster trucks? Wings? Renegades?
pot8odragon@reddit
Eventually it’ll close. Stars are going to Plano. So basically it’s just a concert venue now until it gets replaced by the Mavs new arena
ohwhataday10@reddit
So long, Sayonara, I75 calm traffic!!!! 😂
DoubleBookingCo@reddit
The important and generational lasting question for the Mavericks now is will they create a development centered around ground parking lot capacity that is only used 80 days a year, or create a true mixed-use destination with housing that hides parking in favor of walkability and is pleasant to live in.
And how fast will they develop the site. Because 110 acres is a shit ton of area to build.
They have signaled wanting to create a true holistic development but we shall see.
BigYogi@reddit
I wonder what's going to happen to all those apartment complexes on the north side of Alpha between Montford and Preston?
Surlyllama23@reddit
The older ones will be torn down and the newer ones will raise the monthly rent $400.
BigYogi@reddit
Surely they wouldn't do that to all those working people living there./s
Kirjath-Sepher@reddit
This fucking sucks. Screw the Adelsons. Downtown Dallas has been taking loss after loss. When will it stop?
9ToedWoman@reddit
Easy: when the homeless/drug addict problem goes away.
You can have a thriving area where people want to be, or you can have whatever the F that is in downtown Dallas. Pick one.
khz30@reddit
When Dallas City Council decides that Downtown Dallas is more than a place to work for suburbanites.
soonerfreak@reddit
Other than promising a blank check to build a new arena that the Adelsons also own what do you think they could have done to keep the Mavs? This move is about pure greed so they can also get rich on everything that surrounds the arena.
bobsbrain@reddit
So basically never, too many corporate and transplant dollars in the short term to cultivate an identity that people give a shit about in the long term. I guess we need to open a bunch of casinos, right? Cause we all want that...
/s
cbuech@reddit
Thanks Cuban for selling to the Adelsons
zeroonetw@reddit
Cuban soldiers because he’s a pretty owner.
royalooozooo@reddit
I remember going to reunion and seeing that torn down.
The promise was victory park was going to be a new, upcoming, upscale entertainment district. Dart drop off, hotels, shops, bars are all right there.
zeroonetw@reddit
Victory Park is exactly as you described. The current owners of the Mavs don’t own any of it, thus can’t make money off it.
wayofthrows1991@reddit
Remember when people were trying to block the HEB at Hillcrest & 635 due to traffic concerns?
TalpaPantheraUncia@reddit
That was just dumb, same thing with pepper square, they have the infrastructure to support it, if you add the Mavs on top of that all at the same time tho, eh. MAJOR widening of roads and building either a rail line or increasing bus capacity will have to happen. Day to day traffic has already been getting worse every year that makes morning and evening commute hell. Not as bad as downtown but getting closer.
stanner5@reddit
DART rail will be kind of useless here, won't it? What's the closest train stop?
treesqu@reddit
Addison Station is about a 15-minute drive away (unless there's traffic, which there would be on game days).
Beautiful_Sock2757@reddit
If Dallas was in a blue state every right wing account and Fox News would be going on and on about how libs were killing the downtown.
WITX89@reddit
So what's your interpretation of why downtown Dallas is being killed?
cwsharpless@reddit
No, they'd be happy that downtown is dying because it's "crime-filled"* or something.
*And by "crime-filled", I mean "they saw one homeless person who wasn't even asking for money".
howitzeral@reddit
You’re giving them too much much credit. For right wingers, downtown=urban=black=crime.
It’s outright racism.
extraordinaryevents@reddit
Gotta be exhausting having this type of thing be your first thought
Beautiful_Sock2757@reddit
Nah the only thing exhausting is the constant right wing outrage on things, that they then totally have no outrage over when it affects them.
Beautiful_Sock2757@reddit
Nah the only thing exhausting is the constant right wing outrage on things, that they then totally have no outrage over when it affects them.
Apprehensive-Buy3447@reddit
Dallas is one of the worst sports cities.
One of the most fakest sports cities in America
whittyhuton214@reddit
Couldn't agree more! Such an unserious sports town
Jackieray2light@reddit
Miriam Adelson owns land in Irving and has approved plans to build her arena there, has the Dallas city manager selling her soul to give up city hall for the arena, and is now looking at the biggest eyesore in north Dallas to build her arena on.??? Unless she can bribe her way into some masive tax abatements and grants, I still think that if gambling gets legalized she will build in Irving, where everything is already approved, and if not she will move the mavs to a gambling state.
treesqu@reddit
There is political opposition in Irving to gambling on that site. If it were up to the city's Economic Development folks, it would likely happen, but there is a very vocal, well-financed, well-organized (and very conservative) block of voters there (mostly in South Irving) who will go scorched-earth to prevent it.
NuckyMunch@reddit
Aren't they building the new Dallas HEB super close to this spot?
TalpaPantheraUncia@reddit
Yes, rumored to be open in 2028. All I can say as someone who has lived in this area for nearly two decades we DO NOT have enough public transit or lanes to handle the I flux of traffic HEB, pepper square AND Dallas Mavs to all be moving here at the same time, it's gonna be a clusterfuck.
Worst part is it will probably gentrify the area and kick all of us out of here that have lived here in relative peace without issues.
Optimistiqueone@reddit
It's not far but not super close as in easy walking distance. Maybe about a 1/2-1 mile down 635 but opposite side of free way. So yes super close if driving.
TryNotToAnyways2@reddit
Dallas wings and a new minor league hockey team should play at the American Airlines arena. They should also double down on concerts. At least it's not an abandoned baseball or football stadium, those are much harder to repurpose.
darkpaladin@reddit
I would like to order 1 PWHL team please and thank you.
EnoughSprinkles2653@reddit
Don’t we have a professional women’s volleyball team, too? They could play there!
MemoryOfRagnarok@reddit
Acoustics in AAC suck unless you are right down low.
EnoughSprinkles2653@reddit
Wings are going to AAC next season, I believe.
ReserveFormal3910@reddit
Naw, they're moving to an arena being built that is part of kay Bailey Hutchinson center.
EnoughSprinkles2653@reddit
That move got delayed, hence the discussion about moving to AAC. (WFAA)
builtlikebrad@reddit
No Dallas team wants to be in Dallas
Delay_That@reddit
So what’s left in Downtown Dallas? I honestly haven’t been there since the pandemic, corporations leaving, the two sports teams are leaving, what is there to draw people to this area to support the restaurants and hotels that are still there?
tawdryhepburnnnn@reddit
Reunion Arena’s ghost now laughing at AAC.
nosleep4eternity@reddit
I may actually attend more games after they move. Much better location for the fans living north.
Abject-Associate-676@reddit
We thank them for choosing to be in a part of Dallas that needed them and not leaving their birth city like the 'Dallas' rangers and the 'Dallas' cowboys.
Valley View is an immigrant downtrodden neighborhood in the midst of the wealthiest parts of the town and at the intersection of one of the busiest and best known interactions.
Fabulous choice.
Maybe the boys will next, after Irving and Arlington and will come back to South Dallas, grow the home that made them and get back to winning trophies
GreenYellow899@reddit
The cowboys just agreed to a 30 year extension with Arlington
Huevos_De_Oro@reddit
Just want to point out the Rangers have always gone by Texas Rangers and have always played in Arlington since they left their birth city (D.C.). Dallas Rangers was never a thing lol
awr54@reddit
Good riddance
bballjones9241@reddit
How am I supposed to get shit faced and get a 10 minute uber home now
MediumLong6108@reddit
Now the only team Dallas cares about (Let’s go Stars!!!) can have more leverage over staying in the AAC downtown.
If the Stars end up in Willow Bend Mall area then this is just poetic irony and the whole city gets screwed one way or another 🤣
Boo-Bees67@reddit
I don’t know why you guys are pissed at this. It made sense in the 90s for the Mavs to be down there but the money had moved north. There’s prolly another 2 million people far north now that wasn’t there before. And these are high income households
Abject-Associate-676@reddit
Who cares about downtown? Who needs it? There are many many places to be
Abject-Associate-676@reddit
Downtown Dallas needs more stuff to do and it needs to figure it how to be welcoming to people. The behaviors that remove homeless people also mean no one can hang out and chill out there
robdenbleyker@reddit
Better than Arlington.
txnewsprincess@reddit
I think I a little bit predicted this last week.

Even our sports teams practice white flight. Now we just need the Rangers to move to Sherman
Unusual_Aspect1427@reddit
Why is Dallas actively trying to become an unserious city.
DragDeezeNuts@reddit
Man it was such simple to go watch a game! Now it’s even going to be a pain in the ass!!!!
beardlesswonder@reddit
635 rush hour on game days is going to be a pain

cbuech@reddit
Texspress lines about to be $50 surge pricing
Ok-Nose29@reddit
Now I can't pay $500 to watch a 34-48 Mavericks team 😔
Neuroavalanche@reddit
The Valley View area has been an eye-sore blight for our city for almost two decades so it's great that this is finally going to be fixed. No, that other dev thing promised 15 years ago was never coming.
For those of you complaining about parking or DART, get over it. This needed to be done and we can't keep losing teams to other cities. Plus it's light rail and pretty easy to add if they want it.
zoolak@reddit
Does them moving to valley view increase property values in the surrounding area or decrease them?
nickgomez@reddit
Next championship parade down…Alpha Rd? Pregame at Chuck E. Cheese?
purpletees@reddit
My gawd!
GrilledCheeser@reddit
Personally I wouldn’t want to live next to a pro sports arena
BamaPhils@reddit
Funny how it’s technically downtown when something leaves but technically uptown when something goes to the victory park area. Pick a lane
ShimeUnter@reddit
Great, now everyone can stop coming up with conspiracies how city hall is going to be sold to the Mavs. It was never plausible for their timeline.
Jamesatwork16@reddit
If you still support this team in any possible way, it's never a bad time to stop! Fuck the Adelsons. Fuck the Mavs.
EnoughSprinkles2653@reddit
So the whole Irving plan was all for naught?
khz30@reddit
The Irving plan was a red herring to get casino gambling legalized. Since that was never going to happen in Austin, Valley View turned into their target.
EnoughSprinkles2653@reddit
That makes sense. They weren’t fooling anyone with that attempt, as much as they tried to convince Irving residents who are opposed to gambling.
nickgomez@reddit
Probably helped them negotiate with Dallas
Street_Celery2745@reddit
Awesome news! That lot was an eyesore. This is still dallas zip. Everyone wins.

PumpkinCarvingisFun@reddit
Does this mean City Hall won't be torn down if they do that???

Probably (hopefully) not since the actual cost of repairing city hall is closer to $10million

It would be a shame to lose such an interesting building from such a significant architect.

30 effing miles away from downtown…near some of the shittiest known to man
cherialaw@reddit
Isn’t it more like 13 miles?
_Volta@reddit
My bad. 15 give or take. 30 min away from downtown
SubjectCell9313@reddit
It doesn’t generally take 30 minutes.
medisamurai@reddit
depending on where you are and time of day.
medisamurai@reddit
yeah its not far at all. victory is kinda cluttered now anyway
the-BBC-news@reddit
It’s still in Dallas proper so as far as “Dallas” sports teams go, I’ll take that as a win.
But Jesus they’re going to have to work on traffic flow
AdmiralSnackbar816@reddit
The Adelson’s are the devil.
Necoras@reddit
Does this mean they'll leave City Hall alone?
notsleepsherp@reddit
I guess gambling is dead or going to be a slower slog. Good.
DallasOil@reddit
Yay…. Another reason for the Mavs to raise ticket prices and charge us $100 (like Jerry) for parking.
Ok-Nose29@reddit
Dallas Wings on USA tonight going for the 2nd best record in the league
theywillnotsing@reddit
The Mavs burned the barn and the bridge getting to the barn and they demolished the easement to get back on the highway. It's already a ruin. Why do we allow this to happen?
CharlieTeller@reddit
Such a stupid location
medisamurai@reddit
makes more sense but hurts downtown. oh well, theyll still tear down city hall for luxury condos
DairBair64@reddit
Not as bad as going to Frisco or Arlington but still sucks that they are leaving Victory Park
