Did I mess up? Buying the 7800X3D instead of 9800X3D? for 72€ difference?

Hey
I building my first Mini ITX build in the Fractal Terra case.
I already bought all the parts, mainly from Amazon Spain, but im having serious remorse over the CPU choice.
I thought that there almost no difference, so I just bought, but after some research I found out that there actually a noticeable difference specially on heavy CPU games like:
Microsoft Flight Simulator 20/24 (IVAO, VATSIM), Cities Skylines 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2 (MPtruckers).that I actually play on regular basis, apart from other games that I want to try like Arma and DayZ.
(I play at 1440p)
Ofc the difference is not huge, but let's add the pricing factor. I paid 360€ for the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D priced at 432€\~, that 72€ difference.
So should I return the CPU and go for the 9800X3D? or not worth it?

I mean, if that 10-15 percent of extra gaming power matters to you or you need the extra compute for work or something
tamarockstar@reddit
It's only 10-15% extra if you're gaming at 1080p with a 5090. They're using a 9070xt at 1440p. There will be no difference in gaming performance.
Mravac_Kid@reddit
The difference is generally less than 10%, I'd say it was a good choice.
otravoyadnoe@reddit
* when GPU isn't a limiting factor. Paired with 9070XT at 1440p, there won't be any difference between the two in like 99% of gaming scenarios
Turbulent_Insect_431@reddit
this, people seem to ignore res so much, then also ignore that the testing numbers their going off is from a 5090.

1440p and 4k its pretty much same with 7800x3d and 9800x3d. On 1080p 9800x3d is 10% faster overall. So no stay with 7800x3d and uprade in 2-3 years.

Get the 9800x3d. It appears that your heart may be questioning the decision your head made. If true, you will always have second thoughts about your choice. Avoid the discomfort and go with the 9800x3d.
From a price/performance perspective, the 7800x3d will serve you well. If you get the 9800x3d then you eliminate second guessing and the buyer's remorse you seem to be experiencing.
To please your head, keep the 7800x3d. To please your heart, get the 9800x3d.

If you think 15-20% in lost compute is worth $72 then no. But honestly for $72 euro more, yeah i think you messed up.
rishabhnitro5@reddit
you're more than good with with 7800X3D for your build
Peteretreat@reddit
Stay on the 7800x3d and save the money for next gen or next next gen. That means 10800x3d or 11800x3d/13800x3d or whatever it is called.
Amd just confirmed AM5 will be supported until 2029, so probably both next gen zen6, and then zen7.
Upgrading one generation is pointless, the difference between 7800x3d and 9800x3d with a proper gpu at 1440p is marginal.
Turbulent_Insect_431@reddit
at 1440p? meh, not really, at that Res I'd be swayed to 7800x3d also, pls saved money for zen 6 or zen 7 if it's still on am5
otravoyadnoe@reddit
You're absolutely fine, 7800x3d is all the CPU you'd need for a GPU like 9070XT so don't you worry over it.
aragorn18@reddit
The 7800X3D is still one of the best gaming CPUs on the market. It's particularly good for your build because it's more power efficient and won't generate as much heat in a tiny case.

Did the same last year, but like 50€ difference. But afterwards it's always easy to judge these things.
