What if sports stadiums had dedicated monorails that take fans in 4-5 directions, out to parking lots (or "normal" train stations) a few miles away?

That way 60,000 people aren't dispersing from one location, but they kind of spread out a bit first.

Why not just have trains instead of cars at this point?

That would be great, and it works wonderfully in the American northeast, but cities like St. Louis and Houston don't have any public transit. This idea would have the teams build the monorails, and own the parking lots they service, so the parking fees would cover the operations costs.

It would cost them an arm and a leg.

Well, this isn't r/financiallyprudentideas

Ok, but let’s go crazier and have the sports teams operate nation wide as public transportation

From your lips to Allah's ears.

This wouldn't fly because of the expense. But it would be cool to drive to loti n my quadrent of the city and ride to the game/concert. Atlanta's soccer/football/Basketball stadiums are walking distance from transit, but they built the new baseball stadium at the intersection of 2 expressways and it somehow manages to snarl traffic in an entire quadrant of the ring suburbs. We have monorail from the airport to the convention center sports complex downtown so we know how to do it.

Using the Braves, for example, they would own the parking lots/garages where these monorails spit you out, so they can still charge their ludicrous $40 or $60 or whatever for parking to cover some of the expense.

Just like disneyworld after the fireworks, not everybody wants to be standing, squeezing and jostling for position to get onto mass transit after and event.
JustHereForGCB@reddit (OP)
After baseball games in St. Louis, there's plenty of said jostling on downtown streets.

The monorails would still be a choke points.
There are plenty of arenas with dedicated stations.
JustHereForGCB@reddit (OP)
Yes, but the choke points would be smaller, and dispersed. In middle America, plenty of arenas have no stations whatsoever.

You could build stadiums in the city so you don't have to drive to them
JustHereForGCB@reddit (OP)
Many stadiums are in the middle of cities, which is why it's such a quagmire to get out after the game, since the US refuses to build more public transit.
