I was never really into rap or hip-hop, but Beastie Boys was one of those artists (along with RATM) that transcended genres for me and for which you had to make an exception. Check Your Head and Ill Communication were in constant rotation in my collection during my mid-teens.

Also there's a particular shade of hip hop this poster seems to like 👀 that can't be ignored. Just sayin' don't @ me. I always find it funny having grown up in a mostly white area in some formative years as a black gal. Happens a lot. I'm like what's the difference? If you want resistance or consciousness like.... waves frantically at everything

Yeahhh I had the same thought. People say the Beastie Boys started out punk like that changes the fact that they were rapping over beats, not guitars. It’s rap. The difference is that they’re white guys talking about white culture stuff.

Ok ok! There is an Amazon 4 book set of well made large book comics called The History of Hip Hop and if you haven't seen, you might was to get them.
That was like years of presents as they came out for my ex, a rapper and besties still, also a rapper. lol! Good for all the kids. Not advertising I swear. Just saying it's really really well done and with all the fun tid bits and nardwaur style trivia.

Back when you could program ringtones with key tones I had Mother by Danzig for my mom and the Imperial March for anything work related, but I think my phone has been on silent for over a decade now lol
