I live near the city and don’t drive much besides various weekend trips of varying distances. What would you choose?

First question is can you charge at home? If the answer is “no”, then Lexus wins by default. Since you’re asking about an EV I’ll assume you can.
If you’re talking about buying a new vehicle, I would rather have the Tesla. EVs are ideal for urban areas, and the Highland/Juniper refresh were big improvements over the older models.
If you’re talking used (pre-2024) I would much rather have the Lexus. Teslas older than mid 2023-2024 (depending on model) will have the older HW3 computer.
Honestly you should just drive both. Your gut will tell you which one is the best choice for you.

Lexus for sure

Lexus all day!

The Lexus. Besides the giving money to a horrible human, Teslas have the highest accident fatality rate. You could look at specific models and see how they rank if you really want one. But be careful.

Is it an old or a new Tesla? Completely different cars.
The old models have garbage build quality. You’ll feel the wind through your hair with the windows closed. If you buy new you’ll be supporting a Nazi. Much worse imo

New EV Lexus or older Hybrid ES? Either way get the Lexus. You won't alienate anyone.
If it is the old Lexus, the tech is, ahem, lacking.. this is great for long term ownership, but if you are into your tech, it may get to you.
Had the old ES hybrid 2019. For 7 years. Nothing broke or went wrong, or got crap with age...

I would say get the Lexus. Where EVs truly shine is in rush hour traffic and long distance low speeds. If you are driving fast and long distances you would probably be better off with gas. EV charging is typically also more expensive when you don't charge from home. So you are gaining very little from having an EV in this use case.

Lexus ES.

If you don’t drive much the Tesla might not be worth it unless you really want one and like the tech etc. and how they drive.
But then gas cars don’t like to sit, still have to do all the fluid etc. maintenance of it on time.
Deeply depreciated Tesla would be the way I would go. EV prices went up since oil went up. Also factor that in your decision. And who knows when oil will go back to normal (there is no normal) I hated being fully at the mercy of the oil/gas cartels. Electricity is much more flexible where I live, milking it as much as I can. Doing some road trips I haven’t done before utilizing the supercharger network instead of paying high priced airfare. It’ll be an adventure.
