Is it weird to give someone a picture of your dog?

Moved into this house a couple of years ago. Our neighbour is an older fella who is always lovely with our dog. We're on good terms, he'll go out of his way to give him food, cuddles and calls to him whenever he sees him. He's taken to knocking on the door a couple of times a week to offer him some pieces of leftover chicken etc. We were chatting with him and he'd told us he was always a big dog lover but can't keep them anymore and how much he misses his old dog.
We want to get him a small gift to say thank you, nothing over the top but we're a bit lost on what to get him since we don't know him very well socially.
The current idea is a nice tin of biscuits but then we thought about including a wee picture of the dog and signing it off with a thank you for always being kind to him. Is that weird? We don't want to be the weirdos handing out pictures of our dog.
BluelunarStar@reddit
You could get a cuddly dog that looks like your dog too?
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
Challenging! We have a mixed breed boy and he's a little unusual.
BluelunarStar@reddit
Oof, tricky! But if you can find one, all the more precious!
Dalekbuster523@reddit
Of course it isn’t weird. People do that all of the time.
Sea-Still5427@reddit
Forget the biscuits: he'll love a framed picture, or one on a mug or t-shirt. I would.
AnonymousRedditor39@reddit
Maybe you could get a Moonpig card with a picture of the dog! That way it serves as a thank you as well as a picture of your dog?
SeaIntelligent4504@reddit
Second this.
Also, is your dog on it's own while you are at work? Maybe they could hang out together during the day - benefits both of them.
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
Thankfully I work from home so the dog has company pretty much whenever he wants it. I'd love to let him babysit but the dog is very very large and exuberant, and may take him out.
SeaIntelligent4504@reddit
Aah, nice. Sounds very sensible for him to not be babysitting! Only other thing I can think of for them to spend time together is maybe a lil trapdoor/lowered section in the fence for petting, throwing balls (on the strict proviso of not too many treats!), though I appreciate that's potentially a big task. It would bring your neighbour a lot of joy if it can be managed.
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
Thankfully we have a short wall on one side where he gets his cuddles. It's perfect height for everyone to lean on for attention.
SeaIntelligent4504@reddit
So nice! I honestly don't think you need to get him a thank you card, it sounds like a mutually beneficial relationship. Maybe give him a Christmas card from your dog or similar.
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
I definitely think this is the way I'm going to go. I'm sorting it out on Moonpig now.

oooohshinythingy@reddit
That’s an awesome idea
rachyh81@reddit
I just put pretty much the same.
nwrnnr5@reddit
I think it would be particularly nice if you could get a picture of the two of them together, rather than just your dog - but I'm sure it would be appreciated either way!
automatic_shark@reddit
No, that sounds really lovely actually. I'd love to get a picture of a dog I make a fuss of.
BabyAlibi@reddit
What about a gift from the dog calling him his Grandpaw 😉
ben_jamin_h@reddit
My nan got mugs printed with a picture of her dog and gave them out to all the family. I drink my coffee every morning from a cup with whackerdoodle's picture on it and it makes me very happy indeed.
BeetleJude@reddit
I would be thrilled if my neighbours gave me pictures of their pups lol
MathematicianSad8487@reddit
Sounds like a lovely idea . He would probably also love to take your dog out for a walk .
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
My dog is 40kg of adolescent chaos still. It might need to wait a year or two. 😅
Dangerous-Gap-7005@reddit
I would love it.
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
Thanks folks! I guess I was worrying for nothing!
I'm going to get a custom card printed with the dog on it, and write a wee note from him on the inside to share with the biscuits!

^(What is this?)
justhereforthecrac@reddit
It's cute and you could send it from the dog
alinalovescrisps@reddit
With a little paw print 🐾
yorkspirate@reddit
Gotta be signed off with a paw print surely.
It's definitely not weird in this case, he obviously loves the dog and goes out his way to see and spoil them so give the old man a reason to smile when he's sat in his chair with a photo
SnooDonuts6494@reddit
No, I don't think it's weird at all in that specific situation. It sounds nice.
Smackmybitchup007@reddit
Lovely idea
TapeDeckSlick@reddit
My mate (and his mrs) gave me a framed photo of his dog when she died
He'd had her all his life and I basically grew up with her too, I genuinely appreciated it.
Strawberry_Spring@reddit
I don't think it's weird at all, but maybe you could get a nice pic of him and the dog together?
Kitchen-Rabbit3006@reddit
Would you consider getting a cushion with an image of the dog on it? I've seen it done and its lovely.
Pioneerz90@reddit
Not weird at all, very thoughtful idea. I agree with the Moonpig suggestions!
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
I think that's what I'm leaning to now! It's way less weird than just a random photo too.
Fluid_Canary4768@reddit
My phone lock screen rotates through different dogs. None of them are mine - but they're all friends dogs who I love very much and it makes me happy when they show up. My nieces and nephew pop up as well too but I feel that is an "easier" on to explain!
I'm sure he'll love it.
PracticeNo8733@reddit
Maybe get Moonpig or similar to print a custom card with the photo on it, and write the card from the dog?
QuirkyWolfie@reddit
Definitely not weird, id love this if someone did this for me :D You could get a custom card made from moonpig or similar and have a nice photo of your dog on it and write a nice message inside :)
doraisexploring27@reddit
This is very reminiscent of our elderly next door neighbour with our dog, she used to own several Newfoundlands so she adores our chocolate lab and is always bringing around leftover chicken and cuddly toys for her. So we wrote her a silly thank-you card written ‘by’ our dog which she adored! We also invite her to our garden from time to time, when the weather is nice - so she can give our dog some tummy rubs and they can enjoy each other’s company over coffee and cake!
rachyh81@reddit
Not at all but if you find it a little strange, how about a card from somewhere that you can personalise it. Pic(s) of the dog and a thank you card etc plus the tin of biscuits?
Technical-Bedroom-84@reddit
I'd love it if someone gave me a photo of their dog! I'm sure he would too.
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
So would I, but I'm a little dog obsessed so I'm a bit cautious about being overzealous!
signpostlake@reddit
I think under the circumstances it's a really lovely idea. Don't think your neighbour will find it weird at all
koombot@reddit
Paw print of the dog on the back too
RoutineCloud5993@reddit
You could always create a custom card featuring your dog and write a message inside. Not that I think giving him a photo is in anyway strange if he loves your dog.
Arcwarpz@reddit (OP)
I think that's a lovely idea actually! I might just do that and order a little custom one and send it with the biscuits.
RoutineCloud5993@reddit
It's super easy to do on sites like moon pig too
BiasTap@reddit
I think it's sweet!
Shirayuri@reddit
I think he’d love it honestly! If you can subtly get one with him and the dog even better! Other thing, you could suggest to him a way for the dog to be able to visit, maybe by connecting your gardens somehow? Then he doesn’t have to babysit but can still have the dog visit
TheRealVinosity@reddit
I think that's lovely!
As an older fella, who loves dogs, but can't keep one, I would be so stoked.
According_Spirit_546@reddit
People can really underestimate the happiness a dog can bring you especially as he’s an older gent and can’t have one anymore 😔
mij8907@reddit
That’s a lovely idea and I’m sure your neighbour will appreciate it
Kiwizoo@reddit
If you’re a dog person like I am, this would keep you smiling for days.
Sharkbait-o@reddit
If it was weird wish I knew about that before I got a tattoo of a dog that isn’t mine 😂 (it’s my best friends dog)
According_Spirit_546@reddit
Please do this. It’ll make his day.
_FreddieLovesDelilah@reddit
When I moved away I gave my vet/colleague a picture of my bunny who she had massively helped. The bunny was extremely unwell and when he was better we had both bonded with him so much that we didn’t want him adopted out to anyone. I was on holiday when he was supposed to go in the adoption pen so she took him home and when I got back I went and got him from her. I wondered if it was weird but anyway what I did was print out a nice picture on photo paper of bunny and I wrote a little message on the back thanking her everything etc. and gave it to her before I moved away (130 miles away).
DogDrools@reddit
It is a wonderful idea. How about a tin of biscuits with the photo of your much loved pooch printed on the lid?
Something like this? https://www.photo-canvas.com/personalised-biscuit-tin-uk
LegolasleChat@reddit
Maybe get a Moonpig card made with the photo of your dog on the front. Lovely idea.
Imaginary-Treat-2484@reddit
You have to make it a gift from your dog 🙂❤️
23Doves@reddit
Just to say that as a fellow dog lover (with a dog of my own) I still keep a photo of a mutt I used to dogsit on my mantelpiece. It wasn't given to me by the dog's owner, we just spent a lot of time together while his owner was away on business.
So I don't think it's odd! Maybe get him a nice bar of chocolate as well, though, hedge your bets.
spurs_whl@reddit
Kind and thoughtful idea. I'm sure matey would love that
Feersum_endjjinn@reddit
Deffo really nice. Make sure its signed off from the dog tho 😂
LillyAtts@reddit
How about a personalised card with your dog on?
nightfire_83@reddit
Especially with a paw print!

Super cute! I think he’d love it
Aggravating-Nail-764@reddit
It is a lovely idea
