9-5 people with Part-Time Jobs

If you have a 9 to 5 but also have a side hustle/part-time job in DFW area. What do you do? I am hoping to get a summer part-time job to get a little extra money and not sure where to start. I don’t have any recent service industry experience so kind of at a loss of what’s available to me. I work in finance with a good amount of free time on weekends and after work.
Taxed_concerns@reddit
If you just want something to occupy your free time then start a business. Learning to run one successful takes time and effort that you can put in as much work as you want.
EqualIllustrious9633@reddit
Buy sell trade on the hobby you like . For example cards ,Lego , golf , gold ect
madchen44@reddit
I do mystery shops. It doesn’t bring in much money, but stuff I’d be paying for any way (car wash, oil change, groceries, eating out etc) is covered.
AdDiscombobulated623@reddit
What are mystery shops? Never heard of this concept
SilentSerel@reddit
What are some reputable places for that?
madchen44@reddit
It is all on apps and different people have different successes. I would look at the mystery shop subreddit.
I’m in DFW and have had success with GigSpot and iSecretShop apps.

Apparently the people in highland park are hiring personal shoppers:

I would loveeee something like that but something tells me I don’t qualify 😂
THE-EMPEROR069@reddit
Why?
Jedi71@reddit
They may not be blonde and blue-eyed.
THE-EMPEROR069@reddit
Okay, and what’s wrong with being blond with blue eye? Sorry, but I’m confused
Least_Addendum3140@reddit
There are 2 right now hiring for like 6pm til 10/midnight. Greenville Ave Pizza Co (Peavy Rd. Location has earlier hours) and the French Atelier Bakery wants a pastry boxer/packer from 6-10.
bahamapapa817@reddit
I referee high school football and basketball. It’s a little exercise and it helped pay for my flight and cruise around Greece. It also helped me pay off $10k in credit card debt.
I combined it with Amazon Flex and Spark during the down times. It can’t come soon enough cause gas prices are ridiculous.
Powerful_Lake_4150@reddit
I have a flexible part time. It pays $10 an hour but it's pretty simple work from home and there are evening and weekend shifts available. All you need is a laptop, internet, wifi.
THE-EMPEROR069@reddit
What is it?
Powerful_Lake_4150@reddit
It requires calls and reading a script but it's not sales. I can introduce through a referral if you're seriously interested.
ElevatorDesigner877@reddit
I work at galleria on the weekends 🫠🫠🫠🫠

You want to make real goodoney on the side look at the bounce house places. If you can pull a trailer you will make easily 350 to 450 a weekend. But know this. You will work your ass off all weekend.
You start at 5 on Saturday morning, get all your gear and the 3 to 4 bounce houses you have that day and get going by 7. Put up the bounce houses till around 12, take a break till about 2 then go get them all. You then go get them and usually about 9 that night you will be done. Head back to HQ to drop off everything and usually get done by 11 that night.
Then do it all again on Sunday. Hardest job I ever did, but it paid off debt and gave me a great trip for my family to Disney World.
Psychonaut_Cmdr@reddit
I know a couple of folks who do night shift valet parking at DFW airport. They like it and say it brings in some nice cash.
JohnnyAppleseedsNut@reddit
Stay away from Freedom Park though...they share the tip pool with dispatchers and customer service (which is illegal) unless they've finally stopped in the past few years.
J305Vga@reddit
I worked some games for the Frisco Roughriders back in the day. Was convenient cause I was living in the apartment complex right next door.
lan3yboggs99@reddit
This is a good one, I’ve worked with people over the years that had evening and weekend gigs at the stadiums and local venues.
YoungLightning@reddit
Serve tables or bartend.
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
Do you know any where that would hire people without experience?
TexasBaconMan@reddit
If you show up, work hard and are reliable they will teach you the skills.
YoungLightning@reddit
Try any chain restaurant you want to work at.Id call and ask if they’re hiring, a lot of the time they like to hear a voice , then do the application. A lot allow walk in interviews. Then follow up a few days later.
MetalAngelo7@reddit
I’m a server and 99% of restaurants will tell you to just apply online if you ask if they’re hiring
Sonic_Roach@reddit
If they let you do walk in interviews its a red flag, run away.
MetalAngelo7@reddit
Actually yeah; most places that hire you on the spot are red flags and usually means turnover rate is high due to terrible working conditions
MetalAngelo7@reddit
Most want experience in the restaurant industry nowadays; try chains places like panera
Flashy_Independent38@reddit
If you have no server experience, some places will hire you in as a barback/host/busser and train you up to be a server.
VelociTopher@reddit
If you want to learn to pack parachites, Skydive Spaceland Dallas is hiring. They're about 40mins out, near Melissa area.

Commenting to see suggestions. I use to do Amazon Flex and would have a monthly goal of an extra 1k a month but w/ gas prices, I'm looking for something different.
Plus_Computer_5097@reddit
Amazon Flex was solid when gas was cheaper but yeah those prices killed it for most people. Maybe look into freelance graphic work on weekends since you got the finance background - lots of small businesses need help with basic marketing stuff and you can do it from home
Chreiol@reddit
If I had to guess I’d say AI is killing these types of requests.
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
I just signed up for Amazon Flex and it’s not available in my area😭
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
I honestly thought to post this because I figured I’m not the only one at a loss for ideas!
carbon_brz@reddit
Do you work from home? If so - r/overemployed
adralv@reddit
i do wfh, i'm def check the sub out.
carbon_brz@reddit
I did that for almost a year with two lead software developer roles and half a year with the same. It was wild but it burned me out
There’s people working 4-5 jobs all in big tech. Absolutely breaking the law due to time theft but making 600-800k a year
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
Hybrid.
Cold_Drive_6266@reddit
People work?
sooner_25@reddit
Look into Handshake AI
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
Got on to that last week with not much luck.
sooner_25@reddit
It’s extremely transient, always keep an eye out on your email since I didn’t get it at first.
Do you have a degree? Some of those can pay extremely well if you work in finance with a degree! Extra bonus points if you have a year under your belt already
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
I do! I have a degree in finance with roughly 9 years of experience.

When I found out how much soccer refs get paid per game I said I needed to jump in. I’ll be at any park all day for that
justwannagohome85@reddit
How much are they making?
PkRavix@reddit
Easily $50 a game, that was 20 years ago.
Dmtz214@reddit
Depends on where the games are but I’ve seen between 20-40/game
Weird-Cookie618@reddit
Look into rental car driver jobs, pay isn’t great but it’s easy work if you don’t mind being outside. -Hiring manager for said rental car driver jobs
mothfairy23@reddit
i don’t do this anymore but i got a job at chick-fil-a 5 minutes away from me. It didn’t pay nearly as much at all but I figured having a set schedule at a fast food joint would keep me accountable to do it vs uber eats.
Open-Comedian3267@reddit
Quiktrip isn’t bad. I did it In college and even kept going when I got my career started. It’s really flexible and you can pick up shifts from other stores. Only downside tbh is you have to have a clean shave, if I remember correctly they only allow a mustache.
Adventurous_Loss_140@reddit
I do Uber Eats, delivering food only. It’s market dependent whether you make ok money but you pick your own hours, no boss, and after you’ve done it for a bit, you know how to pick and choose orders. You can make semi decent part time money. The gas situation does sucks though. I make between $20-$25 an hour, about 1/3 tank of gas (mid size car), and work 4-5 hours a week. If I want I can go out and do more but all I really need is golf/beer money.
colonel_beefy@reddit
Get in with some party/catering co. Work weekends here and there and work a lot during December. I did the casino party thing for 16 yrs and the extra cash really helped. In December I would work some weeknights but most of the time it’s Friday and Saturday nights.
WorriedGarage6711@reddit (OP)
This actually sounds great ! I’ll look into this
ContestFine542@reddit
I used to work a 9-5 in a healthcare clinic. Then on some nights and weekends I would work at a fast food restaurant (Dairy Queen). Those 14 hour days were brutal but I enjoyed a lot of ice cream. 😅
Serving will most definitely be more lucrative though.
Merciless972@reddit
Amazon Flex
adralv@reddit
I use to flex every weekend but man, with gas prices and the routes I don't see it as profitable anymore. When I'm in Dallas its cool, but I was getting more and more routes going to Saginaw.
Merciless972@reddit
There's flex warehouse positions as well. You essentially pick what shifts are available. It can be from 2.5 hour shifts to 6 hours. Even 10 hour full shifts.
TeknoBlast@reddit
In the past, I would work at Target right after my 9-5 job. Usually they would have me come in at 6 or 7pm to close up.
This is all while working in the IT department of a bank.
The little extra cash was great and kept me from going out or spend in crap.
Sonic_Roach@reddit
Im trying, but seems like everything wants me to start at 3-4pm for day shifts and I get off at 5pm at my 9-5. Been applying for night shifts but never heard back
PineappleP1992@reddit
I worked retail at northpark. I set my availability to only nights and weekends
Glad_Cod_4918@reddit
would you just go into stores that were hiring or check availability for stores you wanted to work for?
PineappleP1992@reddit
My job was posted online at Indeed I think, and I applied there. My store and others would put out now hiring signs on occasion as well
Saamari@reddit
Uber / DoorDash was my go-to when I had more free time
Capt_P_Ness@reddit
How is the uber / DoorDash market down there? I live up in KC and it’s gotten worse over the years. I wonder if Dallas is the same or worse or better since you guys are about 3-4x bigger than us.

yolatrendoid@reddit
While the pay is obviously severely subpar, the reason the likes of Uber have a seemingly bottomless number of drivers is because it's one of the few jobs that has literally zero requirements other than turning on the app. You're free to work whenever, and wherever, you'd like, and if you don't like the idea of driving people around, you could deliver for Uber Eats, DoorDash or another dining app.
Or you could get creative: I've had side hustles running in sneakers & watches for over a decade now. The market for both isn't what it was five years ago, but you can still make a tidy profit if you know what you're doing – problem being how to figure out how what you're doing is actually working. I spent hundreds of hours researching both fields before even starting in them, just to be clear, since you can easily lose your shirt if you don't know what the fuck you're doing.
Hell, I even flip cars from time to time. On occasion you can find unicorn cars on Craigslist: in a nutshell those are extremely low-mileage vehicles – think 2009 cars with 20K miles – often previously owned by seniors who don't drive that much. Even a POS unicorn can be flipped on sites like BringATrailer for a sometimes huge profit.
Constant-Magician410@reddit
honestly i worked at the rustic part time a few years ago on top of my 9-5 and i'd highly suggest it. i made tons of extra cash on the side and also was a really welcoming environment/fun

Could look into Security part time gigs for weekends. Not the best pay but it’s something.
