Season 4 episode 17 night terrors
nhowe006@reddit
Freaked me out at 7 when it premiered, freaks me out now at 42.
iambeingblair@reddit
Enjoy your evenly lit, thoughtful science fiction show at 5pm...oh here's some Event Horizon, enjoy!
Throwing-Gas@reddit
That and this were top creepy moments on the show
mittenknittin@reddit
She seems pretty blasé for someone who just phased through the floor and shrieked in pain

"Dear Family of This Gold Shirts Name I Can't Remember.
It is with a heavy heart I must inform you of the passing of your daughter, who died by [Anomaly / God Like Being / Borg Attack / Guy Just Showing His Laser Blaster Is Real].
She was a valued member of the crew, who did her job to a standard manner and as an extra never spoke so we didn't have to pay for SAG card.
I know this must be an incredibly difficult time for you, but I want you to know, that Data learned a lesson about rebound relationships with crazy co-workers (it wasn't your daughter, she lived but later was transferred to a secure Federation asylum, again not related).
Deepest Sympathies.
Jean-Luc Picard (Captain and Director of this episode).

Das ist bitterböse. Oder bittersüß?
PAXM73@reddit
I feel like Backrooms might use this uncomfortable body horror technique! Haven’t seen it yet, but looking forward to it.
I guess I’ve seen it happen with furniture in the trailers.
terrymcginnisbeyond@reddit
Crusher just sucking it up and saying, "It's not real". We needed a hell of a lot more of Crusher just figuring shit out with nothing more than her mind.
WarraxTCW@reddit
Agreed!
But you bang one lousy candle ghost and it's all anyone ever talks about 😞
Parallax2799@reddit
Crusher in a cargo bay full of ghosts...could have gone in a very different direction.
Choice_Chocolate5866@reddit
That’s just what they could put on TV
vanwiekt@reddit
😳👌🏻

It makes me want a Starfleet Medical show. I know there are ten zillion reasons why it would never happen, but so much of the spirit of Trek lives in its medical personnel.
BobbyP27@reddit
Like in Remember Me. If there is nothing wrong with me, there must be something wrong with the universe.
sqplanetarium@reddit
Remember Me is one of my favorite episodes.
PAXM73@reddit
I love the “horror / suspense” TNG episodes!
terrymcginnisbeyond@reddit
It's amazing how they can change nothing really and suddenly the ship feels really creepy. They never seemed to manage this again in Trek. Only TOS matched the level of horror possible in Trek.
robotatomica@reddit
did you watch Voyager? In my opinion, they have the best totally creepy/viscerally disturbing eps. Definitely at least on par with TNG, and so many of them!
Episodes like The Thaw, Scientific Method, Revulsion, Meld, Microcosm, Latent Image..they all span the breadth of horror and suspense, anxiety and paranoia.
“One” features Seven having to man the ship alone while everyone else remains in stasis bc they are passing through a nebula the crew would not otherwise survive. Seven, having been a member of the Borg is perhaps least comfortable with isolation out of the whole crew, and her fear and paranoia and hallucinations across the empty ship slowly increase over the hundred+ light year distance she is alone.
BookProper9115@reddit
The one with the AI horror clown literally still gives me nightmares.
terrymcginnisbeyond@reddit
I did, I still think TNG did it better than any other season. Just turning down the lights doesn't make it, "spooky".
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
I support you.
Sanctus_Poopabumsus@reddit
Id fix that. Just go banging wenches in the holodeck during my off time.
PAXM73@reddit
Liminal tricks. Combination of camera angles, lack of crew, and musical cues. Because honestly, it probably would be really freaky most of the time on those ships.
When Riker lies down to sleep looking up at the stars…I’m like, I don’t know if I could sleep there!
dinosaurkiller@reddit
I feel like lighting and sound were the two big changes. TNG had this very warm and bright look normally but this episodes somehow make those bright colors feel grey. They remove the ambient sound of the ships engines and consoles and add the creepy music to great effect.
kank84@reddit
The Barclay spider gave me nightmares as a child
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
Picard got frightened, too.
HariSeldonsIntern@reddit
Me too! And whatever Worf became.
terrymcginnisbeyond@reddit
Boo!
TAG08th@reddit
This one horrified me as a child.
PAXM73@reddit
Horrorpilations from trypophobia!
me_llamo_casey@reddit
Schisms is up there for me. Imagine being kidnapped in your sleep and having your blood turn into plastic.
Business-Decision719@reddit
Or "Time Squared" ... Knowing you're hurtling towards fate, meeting an otherworldly double, not understanding that's going on.... So much suspense, so few answers. TNG could be really chilling when it wanted to be.
Choice_Chocolate5866@reddit
Not candle ghost fucking?
uroborous01@reddit
Any other random medical redshirt:
“Hey what is this?! Is it my birthday? Is this a surprise party? Did all of yall fake your deaths for me so i could have a surprise birthday party? Oh! You guys! You just kill me.”
AnAngryPlatypus@reddit
I mean… Ghosts? Candles? Sounds like my kind of Beverly party! 🎉
Pa_Ja_Ba@reddit
I was always impressed how rationally she reacted to it. With her whole closing her eyes and 'go away'. Cos honestly if I was serving on a starship that encountered half the weird unbelievable stuff they did, I'd immediately start firing phasers at those bodies.
jgzman@reddit
By this point, I think they knew why they were halucinating.
Afterhoneymoon@reddit
What are some of the best horror/suspense episodes?
thedudeadapts@reddit
Peak trick or Trek episode
RainbowSkyOne@reddit
Sub Rosa Bev is very into this
BobbyP27@reddit
The was the universe giving her a reward for all the shit she had to put up with. "You've solved all these problems and helped all these problems, here is an orgasm candle, enjoy!"
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
Also this problem with Ronin controlling the women, she finally solved by herself.
MindlessNectarine374@reddit
Wasn't she also shocked when Ronin made her grandmother move again?
TAG08th@reddit
I came to say those aren’t the only things that stood up. Amirite?
GoatApprehensive9866@reddit
Now replace those ghosts with Lydia's parents and insert a caption of Beverly saying "Beetlejuice" thrice and voila! ❤️
BigMrTea@reddit
As it should. Me too. This was is one of my top 10 TNG episodes.
StardewAllyy@reddit
Yeah this whole episode scared the shit out of me
SparkleK_01@reddit
Jeez that single frame just gave me a chill!
dnkroz3d@reddit
Her reaction sells it.
fuelofficer@reddit
i once had to move a dead person for an autopsy in a small plane and they put it on the medevac strectcher in the same kinda bag.. and then we started to freak each other out with... what if we turn around and he's sitting..... glad when we got him out....if only dr crusher was there
Moose_on_the_Looz@reddit
This is before she got it on with that candle right?
vanwiekt@reddit
Yes. This was the beginning of her ghost kink. 🥵
Admiralspandy@reddit
Yeah, that was really spooky, especially when I was a kid. Barclay's half-spider transformation also scared the crap out of me when I was little.

This one scene was scarier than half the horror movies I've ever seen
(And that's a lot)
BobbyP27@reddit
I mean that was kind of the point
HariSeldonsIntern@reddit
I know!!
Ragnarok345@reddit
That would be the idea, yeah.
me_llamo_casey@reddit
The whole premise of that episode is freaky
el_sandino@reddit
This was the scariest scene in the show for me growing up.
Also in contention: Barclays spider jump scare
