I can't say that I understand the new reticle, but it is good they are revising the design of a great optic.
SPICYMK18@reddit
Would an average Joe (ME) be able to use this reticle? Would this be good for a 13.7” AR15? I’m no operator and usually shoot under 300 yds.
ArchimedesTheDove@reddit
Regardless of what you choose you're going to have to learn your holds, but that's true of everyone who owns this since the bdc is calibrated for m855a1 out of a 14.5. Under 300 isn't going to matter much, I don't think. Just get a dope card going.
FlashAndPoof@reddit
Why’d they go with a SFP reticle?
No_Promises7@reddit
In practice, FFPs add unnecessary weight without much practical advantage. At the minimum distance you're going to want to start adding magnification, 6x or even 8x is viable to use, so there's really no world where you'd want to shoot at anything in between 1x and max with such low powered optics.
That doesn't mean it's useless, however. One of the biggest benefits of an LPVO is being able to use partial magnification for target identification or PID purposes.
FlashAndPoof@reddit
How much weight savings could it even be? Back when I last paid attention to optics development 5-8 years ago, all the rage was getting scopes to have FFP. Seems we’ve come full circle.
No_Promises7@reddit
The equivalent optic in SFP will be multiple ounces lighter.
It's not just weight either. FFP LPVOs are far more fragile than SFPs, which are already extremely fragile in terms of duty optics. Most importantly, it's very hard to design a good reticle for an FFP LPVO that works at 1x and max magnification. I'd argue that the closest FFP LPVO that does well at both magnifications is the PA PLxC, but even then, it prioritizes the reticle's 1x shape by adding a semi-circle that becomes giant at 8x and covers everything around the chevron. While making the 1x capable at shooting near red-dot speeds is objectively the correct choice in reticle design, you just simply don't have this problem with SFP.
The rage on reddit was to get scopes to be FFP, but people actually fielding LPVOs have been much more focused on wanting a light optic with a highly usable reticle at min and max magnification than wanting something that can shoot in between.
ArchimedesTheDove@reddit
who knows, for a 1-6 you're likely not going to hang out in between the two magnifications much, it's probably something 75th requested because they liked the idea of either being at 1x or cranking it all the way and just being done with it
f0rcedinducti0n@reddit
They they put BDC scales for both 1x and 6x since this is sfp?
No_Promises7@reddit
All BDC reticles are accurate at min and max magnification.
N4su5@reddit
No the subtensions are accurate at maximum magnification
f0rcedinducti0n@reddit
There are two sets of numbers.
Honest_Knee_6510@reddit
That's a ranging feature.
Sh00tYourEyeOut@reddit
This is the optic from 75th Rangers. So 'contract overrun' with contract mount.
BoostinIX@reddit
And definitely not new. Deal been around for a hooot minute
pgdevhd@reddit
they aren't revising anything, this is a contract overrun specific reticle and package, the normal one sells for 999 throughout the year constantly at B&H and other places
Trollygag@reddit
This reticle is just over a year old on an optic design that is about to hit its 15th birthday, and came with a totally different illumination system.
That is what I mean. I appreciate that Vortex has continued to invest in its development.
Ok-Definition-3194@reddit
SFP 🤮
vkbrian@reddit
SFP is perfectly fine for an LPVO
Ok-Definition-3194@reddit
Fine, yes. But still really no reason to get one over ffp
No_Promises7@reddit
The only people who come to this conclusion are those who don't shoot enough.
Ok-Definition-3194@reddit
Once you shoot enough you’ll realize sfp is a waste of money
No_Promises7@reddit
You know, insecurely reversing what I said would be more effective if relying on FFP at such low magnification wasn't so obviously a skill issue.
Ok-Definition-3194@reddit
Why would you pay all that money for nice glass and a bdc when it’s only usable at max magnification? Even the nice scoped max magnification the eye box becomes so much tighter, yes a sfp is fine, but why wouldn’t you get ffp and actually be able to use the entire scope that you’re paying for effectively?
vkbrian@reddit
If you’re shooting at a distance where you’re worrying about bullet drop, you’re gonna be at max magnification on an LPVO anyway, so FFP gives you nothing.
c1utchmatic@reddit
Yes there is. All depends on your use case.
HyperionArmament@reddit
Dang this is solid deal. I bought the same years ago but had to also buy all the extras like mount, swivel, covers, etc.
FreedomBall@reddit
I need one of these but I was hoping I could pay a little less for an older optic.
DomesticBeerEnjoyer@reddit
Drop this to 1k you cowards
Bigman123abc@reddit
Right drop it to 1k and ill take 2
Berry_Micockiner@reddit
This is their regular price and has been in stock for the last two years. Where deal
vkbrian@reddit
They used to sell for like $2500 🤷♂️
Fearless-Jeweler-318@reddit
WELL SONNY IT AINT " USED TO " NO MORE ! 1K FIRM I KNOW WHAT I GOT !
SmashSix@reddit
If I could get this tax free, I’d take it in a heart beat
Mindless-Arm4185@reddit
Is the DD Ris iii 9.5 inch hard guard in stock ?
