Been trucking for 4yrs this October & this was my 1st time on this road & WOW!!! Beautiful & terrifying at the same time. You guys actually drive that road in the winter? If so thats NUCKIN FUTZ!! Respect if so.. 🫡

US 550 or US 50? It looks like you went over Monarch pass. A road I know very well and have trucked over many times.

Yes the good old Million Dollar Hwy. Hope your Jake was working.

Do trucks actually drive this shit in winter..?
leadpoem@reddit
It depends but yeah. Colorado also has a commercial truck chain law where you have to carry chains in the winter even when chain laws are not in effectÂ
There's only three roads in Colorado that cross the Continental Divide so yes they do get shut down but they try not to.Â

US 40 (three times), I-70, US 6, US 50, US 160.
That's 4, isn't it? Or are you combining the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnels and Loveland Pass?
DoctorZebra@reddit
Oh, forgot about Independence Pass, but that closes in the winter and is off limits to trucks in any case.

That's one of the few major passes in Colorado that I haven't done yet. The closest that I've gotten was taking a load out to Telluride, but I haven't been on US 550 anywhere between Ouray and Durango.

I did 550 once in 21 years driving and was glad i was pulling a 40' Chiquita trailer and not a 53, it beautiful but once was enough in a truck.

Roads like this are beautiful the first time but after that it's just a pain in the ass to drive in that curvy, hilly, slow terrain, IMO.

Wolf Creek Pass is a fun one. Ran that one a few times, nice views and at one point, you can look up and see trucks way above you that are actually behind you about a mile.

Hell yea I tried pulling off & taking pictures but was no where to go. Also 44 UT was also beautiful. Went up that thr same day..

You sir, are brave.

Me? Or the guy above saying he goes 65..?
MuphDiesel@reddit
Colorado is so beautiful. Shitty government but beautiful country.

Those dropoffs were terrifying
Auquaholic@reddit
Yeah, I don't do that route in the winter for that very reason. The few gaurdrails are quite laughable. I don't even know if they'd stop a car from going over.
Vanstrucker2222@reddit
Can you tell me how fast you were going? This looks scary. I don’t think I could travel this road more than 45 mph.
leadpoem@reddit
That road often looks a lot scary than it is. Pretty cliffy and not lots of shoulder. I would say 45 to 65 will good through most of the mountains. People who are not used to the moutains tend to go a lot slower than needed. Though always better to get to the bottom and realize you were too slow. Then find out you were going too fast halfway down. Â

Your going good pretty slow 35ish I believe. Alot of sharp curves, switchbacks & dropoffs

I can see a monkey in that snow. Or a bear.
