i took apart a nan tan 7600 in order to replace the CMOS battery (lithium). i found that somebody had attached these wires to it, and they made them accessible from the PCMCIA slots.

what are these wires supposed to do? can i connect a battery to them and it will work? are they meant for charging the lithium CMOS battery?

My guess would be a way to monitor the battery's voltage.
It looks like it's connected in parallel to the motherboard, so couldn't be used to interrupt powering the CMOS to reset it.
And BR coin batteries are non-rechargeable, so wouldn't be to charge it.
Small possibility of externally powering the CMOS circuit. I could see someone doing that to prolong the battery's life, but without matching the voltage to the battery, it could cause problems.

i tried connecting a cr2032 to those wires and it did absolutely nothing. since then i removed the old BR battery and replaced it with a CR2032 battery slot, and now my BIOS works fine

I think it charges the battery

Non-rechargeable battery.

those can still be recharged slightly

And ignited not so slightly. Please don't do this, it may work but it may as well not work and results can be pretty unpretty.

Maybe a way to reset BIOS settings without opening the case. Might be legit or a backdoor.
