new app - Whisp - Anti Note for gnome

I was watching a random Mac apps video by Snazzy Labs, and he showed an app called Anti Note. I wanted something similar for GNOME that felt native, fast, and fluid. So, I built Whisp.
Whisp is not Google Docs, Obsidian, or Notion. It is supposed to be the Anti-Note but for GNOME. It’s designed strictly for the GNOME desktop using GTK4 and Libadwaita. It completely abandons traditional file hierarchies in favor of a spatial, swipeable canvas.
Features:
- Touchpad Swiping: Fluidly swipe left/right to move between your active notes. (You can also use keyboard shortcuts to navigate).
- Live Markdown: Real-time formatting with a WYSIWYG toggle to instantly hide syntax.
- Native Paper Themes: Switch between Dotted, Grid, or Blank backgrounds.
- Instant: It only renders your active notes, making it incredibly lightweight and fast.
- Smart Paste: Features like Plain Paste and a built-in URL Link shortener.
This is my very first app release for GNOME, and I am still learning things! I am going to be adding many more features, and my long-term goal is to move this app to GNOME Circle, though I know that is a long road.

P.S. I have attached some photos, but they don't show the movement of the app/gestures because I don't know how to record proper videos on Linux yet. If anyone can record and send me a nice demo video, it would help me a lot for the website and GitHub repo!

People on this sub are braindead / a hive mind.They will scream vibe coded if you once had Claude sift through docs. If they were software developers (and not a bunch of ricers running fastfetch in a loop), they'd know how damn useful an LLM can be, just to answer questions and letting it search, you don't even need to ever give it access to the codebase.
I read a comment like a month ago, in which somebody stated they are not using anything that ever had any AI involvement at all, not matter how little. I really hope this guy stopped updating his kernel or forked it and maintains it himself (no merging to keep up ofc), because little did he obviously know that the kernel allows AI involvement.

Again , How does one app looks like it is vibe coded ? Follows the Human guidelines from gnome ? So looks similar to all gnome apps. Looks very similar to Ghostty , The normal terminal , The Text Editor on gnome. So how does it looks like it is vibe coded. Stop commenting things if you dont know what you are talking about

Vibecoded projects don't get published on flathub, they're explicitly banned https://docs.flathub.org/docs/for-app-authors/requirements#generative-ai-policy and you can see them getting banned, see this in action, via the "AI Slop" tag in the flathub application/curation process https://github.com/flathub/flathub/pulls?q=is%3Apr+is%3Aopen+label%3A"AI+Slop%22. I am so sorry but this is not vibe coded. You can check the commit history or my github to see that I have been coding for a long time. So please check things out before saying that the app is vibe coded.

Interesting format for presenting notes! I use sets of markdown files with vimwiki, and sometimes want a more graphical composition of my notes. I'm hoping to never use gnome again sadly, but I appreciate seeing projects in this area. Don't let the trolls get you down<3

@ u/Baajjii how does the data get stored? Do notes get stored in a json file? Have you considered having it integrate with other note-storage systems?

Also i am going to implement the export feature but it is a heavy feature, So it will take some time and the placement time is coming so it will take even more time,

The data is stored in your desired folder in .md format. Which you can change whenever you want. As I type this I need to check if changing the location of the notes move the old notes or not. thank you for commenting

I have zero knowledge of how you publish apps there. But I don’t think it matters whether it’s vibe coded or not. If it’s not malicious then it’s good to go probably.

I am sorry but if you dont have any knowledge why do you comment on things ? I have linked the flathub pulls and you can see AI is pretty heavily checked. They constantly check Ai usage and Insufficient development history and block requests which dont fit the criteria

Yes , they have a curation method which is pretty thorough, you can check the number of app requests they get to add apps to flathub which are heavily blocked because of the use of AI. This is why i waited for the app to be accepted to flathub so people wouldnt start calling its vibecoded.

What I meant by I dont know how to record a proper video I meant , A nice demo. I know that I can record video using the default screenshot utility, I even tried Kooha but the videos were very now quality so unusable as a demo on the website.

For someone who doesn't know what anti-note is... can you update the description to say what it is your app is and offers? I'm kinda interested if it's a notepad sticky note thing for my desktop

It is supposed to be a small widget type utility which you can use to create small lists , notes maybe password and not worry about creating notes specifically, you just keep writing and then swipe for a new note. You can also use keyboard shortcuts for this. it also has features like Paste as plain text , WYSIWYG mode when you need it which can be toggled, link shortener. etc. And I am planning to add features like reactive variables , Auto paste etc, But I will be waiting 1 month for people to actually leave some reviews and then start adding new features.

If you're using gnome you should be able to press print screen to take a screenshot and then toggle at the bottom to make a video instead of a screenshot.

I know you can record a video using the default utlity , I tried but the videos are low quality and you can only record sections and not window seperately. Do try the app and lemme know.
