Looks a lot smarter than the Jag-based one I rode in, that thing was an ergonomic disaster. I’ve said for years now that self-driving taxis, especially full bev, should be rectangular boxes on wheels.
Neat! Somehow obvious that Amazon, who runs the largest robot fleet in the world knows a thing or two on how to scale a warehouse bot up for human sized cargo ..
It’s pretty cool. All four wheels can turn so it has a tiny turning radius.
Since it has no driver’s seat, the passenger seats face each other, and symmetrical sensors, it doesn’t have to make a Y turn to reverse, it can just go backwards.
Who knows how good it’ll be at autonomous driving but it’s a gigantic milestone being the first self driving car that wasn’t adapted from a traditional car.
Lidar is so important for actual self driving. Used in conjunction with camera and radar, each sensor type fills in the gap the other types struggle with
That is very true. You end up with false positives, same as any other reflective surfaces, which is were sensor fusion comes in handy. The camera and radar can give their input so the planner can make a decision on how to act.
The most dangerous gap in “self-driving” cars is the vast gulf between actual self-driving and the deliberately crippled beta test version that Muskrat sells in his Teslas
They're in many cities but all of them (this model) are in the training phase where humans are driving them. The purpose is to train the neural network AI.
I like it - that is what a n autonomous taxi should be - not to big, easy in easy out. I don't need lux, I need a easy way to get someplace in 15 mins that my 80 yo mom can also get in if needed...

So many external sensors it's a wonder anyone believes tesla would be able to do FSD with their cameras

Seems like lidar doesn't work great on giant puddles.

Still better in recognizing painted walls

Tariff and congress questioning bypass. Zeekr also sells the car in China as Zeekr MIX.
MRDR1NL@reddit
I think that final assembly is just to bypass tariffs
acog@reddit
Not regular Americans, just Jeff Bezos.
Oh and Volvo/Polestar just got an exemption too. They’re owned by a Chinese company and manufactured in China now.

And here's its "civil" sibling sold in China: Zeekr Mix
