Airline flatware-what to do?
Posted by everelusiveone@reddit | aviation | View on Reddit | 12 comments
Hi y'all, I have been helping a newly widowed neighbor clean out her deceased husband's belongings. He was an avid collector of all things related to aviation. She gave me a box filled with flatware from many airlines, including Flagship Express,TWA, Piedmont, Continental,Eastern ... I would like to find collectors who might be interested in purchasing it? I am old,and not techo-savvy,so putting them on Etsy or eBay isn't feasible for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

There is also a TWA Museum in Kansas City MO that might take some

TWA hotel at JFK airport might be a good fit for the TWA flatware

I agree with the other comments saying that Ebay is probably your best bet to get a decent price.
That being said I'm interested in buying at least some of these!

Many school systems these days require students to volunteer a certain number of hours as a graduation requirement. Maybe there is a high school student who would be willing to volunteer the time to help you set up an Etsy or eBay account with the listings? My son would have been all over that as a volunteer project!

Good luck! I think you might be able to get a decent amount of money for your neighbor if you can tap into some collectors. My son loves to sell stuff online; me, not so much - lol. If you can’t find anyone locally, which would be ideal because you’ll need to take pictures and stuff, shoot me a message & I’ll see if my son can help or has any better ideas. He’s at work so I can’t pick his brain right now.

Once again, thank you for the encouragement. There are so many pieces of flatware from airlines, railroads, now defunct hotels- it is overwhelming. I appreciate you so much!

It sounds like a really cool collection, and there are probably pieces that will bring lots of people joy! I think it would be really cool if you kept us updated, especially if you’re able to share some of the pictures. I had plenty of meals on Eastern, Continental, Braniff, etc., and it would be amazing to see sets from those long gone days!

Thats pretty hyper specific. Probably not going to find anyone willing to pay in your local area. Pawn shops will rip you off big time. eBay or Etsy are probabky your best bet if you want to get what they are worth. Theyre not much more complicated than Reddit, just give it a try.
