This Packard 90 is one of twelve airport limousines that were manufactured in the early 1940s and modified to hold 12 passengers. The overall length of the car is 22-ft and the wheelbase is 18-ft. The engine is a 356-cid inline eight-cylinder engine.

All of that only to be a mere 3 feet longer than a 70's DeVille
The_DDK7070@reddit
Not as long as the 70s Lincoln Continental Mk V, which was over 19 feet long
Drzhivago138@reddit
The brochure shows the length at 296". The longest Fleetwood 75 was about 250".
Montagneincorner0@reddit
So a little closer to 4 feet
Drzhivago138@reddit
The longest de Ville was 230".

This would be siiick to restore!
LASERDICKMCCOOL@reddit
That's barely longer than a modern day suburban lol
Drzhivago138@reddit
From the brochure, it's 296" long while the newest Suburban is 226". Almost a 6' difference.

Yet holds more passengers :)

I get that it’s more economical these days to just use a bus body on a standard truck chassis, but these weirdo bespoke ones are so much cooler. In addition to this one, I’ve seen them built from Checker Marathons and even Vista Cruisers.

They had Chevy Suburban versions of these when I lived in CT in the 80's, running to all the NY/NJ airports. They looked hilarious full of people and luggage, like something from a cartoon.

No such thing as a Packard 90.
In this era, Packard made a 110, 120, Clipper, 160, and 180.
Not a 90.

I was wondering bout the name. The 110 was a six too, so it's strange that a hypothetical "90" has the I8. That said, The RM Sotheby auction listing calss it as such (I wouldn't be completely surprised if it was an incorrect, auctions do get things wrong relatively often)

The 356 only came in the 160 and 180 in 1941, so it’s one of those.

I decided to spend more time than is healthy on this. Running gear is from the 160, the henney packard airport limo brochure (pdf) is thankfully available on the internet.

I can only assume that "90" is a bastardisation of model 4190 which was assigned to the 1941 henney packard ambulance/hearse. Dunno if it applies to the much longer airport car, though.

Then what the heck did RM Sotheby's sell for $55,000 in 2015?
SlyClydesdale@reddit
A car whose name they got wrong.
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
For some reason I'm picturing like 8 Edward G Robinsons climbing out of it at the same time with their tommy guns in violin cases.
Drzhivago138@reddit
That looks like a lot more than 4' of combined overhang to me.
