Serevii@reddit
Do wonder how durable this paint will be.
user289734@reddit
Why such a dull green?
byerss@reddit
Seriously. I was hoping for a green version of crystal soul red.
MechMeister@reddit
Or the british racing green from the ND2
degggendorf@reddit
BRG with gold/bronze metallic flecks would be killer
HighDecepticon@reddit
You mean Marina Green Mica from the 1997 M-edition Miata?
accountforrealppl@reddit
When was the ND2 sold with BRG? People do BRG wraps all the time but I don't think it was ever OEM
MechMeister@reddit
Ya it definitely was, like the other guy said 2001 I guess. My sister was at the dealer in 2001 buying a new car and they had a green one in the showroom
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
There hasn't been a BRG Miata since 2001. But, BRG was never a standard color anyway, just one model year each as a special edition for the NA and NB.
Bmotley@reddit
I'd be happy with the 'Cypress' they offer on the CX-50.
byerss@reddit
We need more greens like this across the industry.
007Pistolero@reddit
It’s crazy how hard it is to find green cars that aren’t such a dark green that it’s just black from most angles
topherhead@reddit
For my Cayman I really wanted Python green but they discontinued it before my order so I got shark blue instead. I'm happy with it but man. Python was so good.
HoveringHog@reddit
Funny story, once upon a time, green was the most popular car color.
The_Bucket_Of_Truth@reddit
Yeah I had the same thought. To be able to get that with tan Recaros inside I feel like would sell really well in this climate where green is trendy.
Bamres@reddit
My dad got that color, beautiful green.
Surprising because hes last 4 cars were grey, black, black and primer grey
ace0702@reddit
If I'm not mistaken, that's actually Toyota's color and it's only on the CX-50 because that car is built at a joint factory
haelous@reddit
Heck yes this color is sick, offer it across the whole line.
WolfyCat@reddit
That red is really stunning, every time I see it.
R0B0T0-san@reddit
The crystal soul red is such an interesting color. Put it in the right lighting and it's a gorgeous, beautiful red with a lot of depth. A color that I absolutely enjoy. And then you put it under a grey rain day/ overcast and it becomes a surprisingly normal darkish red. But in the sun, amazing.
Kmaaq@reddit
Ferrari makes that it's called verde jewel
byerss@reddit
Hell yes, that is beautiful.
stanleypup@reddit
You're going to need to buy a Toyota sienna to get that
Alieges@reddit
Yes, Or a juiced up blinged out Mazda version of Aztec Green Pearl.
SenTedStevens@reddit
An electric lime green would be so much better.
dannerc@reddit
I agree, but I also kind of like this tint of green
SizeableFowl@reddit
Probably Toyota influence worming its way in. Their buyers get excited for colors like ‘Concrete’.
NeighborhoodDude84@reddit
How dare people like things that I dont like? Dont they know who I am?
SizeableFowl@reddit
Exactly!
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
Voodoo blue, inferno red, lunar rock... Toyota had a ton of great colors. Mazda has zero (save for the 2019 orange).
molrobocop@reddit
Also in the past, Desert Sand, Army Green.
durrtyurr@reddit
Terra was very cool color from Toyota recently. Their yearly TRD Pro releases tend to look really cool.
SizeableFowl@reddit
Soul Red is a GOAT color, the orange was cool but I really wish they’d bring back Celestial Blue Mica
HoveringHog@reddit
Halo White on my GR86 is lovely too. It’s a metallic white with creamy undertones.
Also, you forgot Mazda’s two best colors. Artisan Red and Soul Red Crystal.
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
Artisan and Soul are old people colors. They aren't fun. Them being the best colors shows you how dire their color situation is.
HoveringHog@reddit
In what world is a bright, two tone metallic red and a metallic wine red old people colors? Old people colors are this Zinc Green, and maybe a nice tan color. Or maybe grey.
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
Soul Red is not bright. And burgundy is a classic old people color.
You're comparing modern Mazda colors to each other. Gimme Classic Red, Sunburst Yellow, Mariner Blue...
HoveringHog@reddit
You mean, flat red, flat blue, and flat yellow? Brother, those are old people colors, not a metallic two tone red. They’re dated. They looked good on the NA Miata, 35 years ago. Nowadays they don’t belong on new cars.
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
I'm talking about bright colors. Look at the colors Jeep uses. They're awesome. Honda and Subaru have some really nice bright colors as well.
HoveringHog@reddit
Bright doesn’t always mean good. By that same metric, I could paint a car tennis ball green and it would be a “good color”.
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
I'm not making that claim. I'm saying Mazda's current paint offerings are boring and I would like brighter paint options to rectify that.
HoveringHog@reddit
Boring to you, despite that, I’d like more colors from Mazda too. What I wouldn’t like though are more flat colors. Given the shape of modern Mazdas, Miata’s especially, benefit from metallic and pearls.
coffeebribesaccepted@reddit
False, Soul Red is an amazing color
clickstops@reddit
Soul red crystal metallic is awesome
ctrlaltcreate@reddit
Mazda's dark gray is also excellent, as such things go.
airfryerfuntime@reddit
I dunno, my neighbor has a bright metallic red CX50 that looks really cool in the sunlight.
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
Soul Red looks great in a very small time window where the sun hits it exactly right. 99% of the time it just looks too dark.
_galaga_@reddit
Saw a blue flame Corolla GR yesterday and that’s a striking blue in person.
SqueezyCheez85@reddit
Yeah that color is sick. This is exactly the type of color I would describe as "bright". Compare that to Soul Red or Artisan... not even in the same ballpark of "bright."
FourEyesAndThighs@reddit
Considering Cypress Green is a Toyota color that Mazda now uses, you couldn't be more incorrect.
Phazushift@reddit
Is concrete nardo grey? Because every make has their own version of this color.
ObsurdBadger@reddit
I have a TC2 in concrete. Its such ass, but it still takes me two hands to count how many people told me it looks awesome.
mkmckinley@reddit
Kind of like a British racing green
CMDR_omnicognate@reddit
Dull colours tend to sell better unfortunately
AwesomeBantha@reddit
I’d hope this doesn’t apply to Miata buyers. The very definition of a fun, lighthearted car, and then people pick the least fun color possible.
Somehow Dodge has figured this out and offered great colors for the Challenger/Charger, and people actually bought them. Even though the current gen is a dud, they give you one option for white/grey/black and then everything else is an actual color.
IStillLikeBeers@reddit
Sadly, Mazda has really cut fun colors from the Miata. This graphic is pretty sad.
CD_4M@reddit
The article lays out the reasons in painstaking detail….
nondescriptzombie@reddit
Have you ever seen green zinc?
maxstolfe@reddit
Because matte grey sells right now.
chrike01@reddit
Eh, it’s better than the green Alfa is doing.
108pdx@reddit
Emerald Green Mica is what they should have done
teeksquad@reddit
Calling this new is a joke, my first car, a 1996 Chevy Corsica was this color
pants_full_of_pants@reddit
Not sure if you read the headline and thought they literally invented a new color
LeanGroundQueef@reddit
Hardly even green. It's like a hint of a hint of green mixed into a blue-grey.
hm9408@reddit
Hank Green - Why do cars suddenly look like putty??
MNAAAAA@reddit
What's with all these putty lookin ass whips???
HawaiiClipper@reddit
-Hank Green
Potential-Recover-78@reddit
Millenia greige. Can’t have fun colors anymore.
CryptoCrash87@reddit
Probably because Subaru sold ten billion units with cool grey khaki or whatever they call it. So Mazda decided to jump on the muted color bandwagon.
PositivelyAwful@reddit
Because color doesn't sell anymore. Everyone wants neutral boring cars.
themigraineur@reddit
"You gave me the ugly" -Patrick Star
creep_nu@reddit
What, you don't want your miata to be faded single stage British racing green?
familyguy20@reddit
JUST MAKE A GODDDAMN GREEN THAT LOOKS AS GOOD AS SOUL RED 😩
ThreeNC@reddit
Trying to build up hype so you'll pay extra for paint. No thanks.
NeonLime@reddit
What a tragedy
Vhozite@reddit
Fuck off that’s gray
stupidber@reddit
Thats grey shit
edvurdsd@reddit
Which is what the market loves. Everything is just a shade of gray these days.
ChuckYeager_Bombs@reddit
I work for a running company and we make some amazing colorways in footwear. Year over year, gray, black, white is all the stores want because that’s all people ask for. It’s such a bummer
sarahbotts@reddit
Ngl I love all of the bright shoes and buy them! But I'm def the minority in this, I hate the black and white ones.
YourMatt@reddit
I like my shoes to work with the colors of my workout clothes, and not limit my clothes colors to my shoes since the clothes last much longer. It’s best to go with what works with everything. I do see plenty of people at the gym rocking different colorful shoes on different days. I don’t have the closet space for that, plus I don’t want to look like I’ve put that kind of thought into it. I do think about it, but I don’t want people to know that, so boring colors it is.
higuy721@reddit
Why don’t you want people to notice you’ve put thought into your outfit?
YourMatt@reddit
I do actually like to project that I do care about my outfit when I'm actually out. At the gym, I don't really want to look like I'm trying hard to get noticed there. I have my headphones on and I'm in my own world. I prefer to feel invisible.
Coriandercilantroyo@reddit
"Effortless" is a vibe
edvurdsd@reddit
It’s just the safe albeit boring option. I love my wife’s soul red and my portimao blue. Feels good in the sea of gray that is the road.
LiquidDiviums@reddit
I do think a lot of modern shapes of car suit black/gray color much better.
Shienvien@reddit
Black accents go with almost any colour. I don't think there is a colour that's as inoffensive as accent as black.
Shallow_wanderer@reddit
On my life why the hell are people so boring
Anyone who actually likes grey/silver/white/black on a car is probably the same type of autopilot drone who thinks Olive Garden and Marvel Movies are the greatest thing since sliced bread, like I'm sorry but I simply can't be that boring and continue existing
Land_of_Kirk_@reddit
I like buying colorful race day shoes. Keep up the good work!
scroopydog@reddit
Pearl Izumi had great colors when they made running shoes. I have a few friends that work on the design team, I was so bummed when they dropped the lines.
SigmaBallsLol@reddit
is it what the market wants or is it what the dealerships force on us because it's more convenient?
If 50 people want blue but will settle for black, and 50 want red but will settle for black, and end up going 25 blue 25 red 50 black, then the dealerships just see they need more black cars. Repeat this for 10+ years and we get the sea of monochrome we see now especially once it infected the used market.
cookingboy@reddit
In North America that sure is the case.
But during my trips in Japan and China I see so many more colorful cars.
Level-Event2188@reddit
I paint vehicles at a vehicle plant. We have 10 different shades of gray, not to mention black, white and silver
Wardog008@reddit
50 (thousand) Shades of Grey
Supper_Champion@reddit
I'm just about to buy a new Toyota Corolla, and the base model offers white, black, silver. Booooring.
Immediately I was willing to go up trim levels to get a more interesting colour, which I'm sure is one of the reasons the base models just get the popular, bland colours.
Terrh@reddit
https://imgur.com/a/WFTHYNN
It looks pretty green to me?
Vhozite@reddit
Green for people afraid of real colors.
xdojk@reddit
This is how you find out you're colour blind
HirsuteHacker@reddit
Pretty clearly green on my screen
SenTedStevens@reddit
Mazda Millennial Gray.
PM_CITY_WINDOW_VIEWS@reddit
Nah man, as a millennial I love early 90s neons on things like cars. Give me more of those abstract wave and sunset patterns in purple pink or lime green with blue combos.
coffeebribesaccepted@reddit
Am millennial – I like the Dolphin Greys from VW and Porsche, Toyota Lunar Rock, Nardo Grey. I don't like this Mazda one.
aka_mank@reddit
It’s Grayn
SlayerSEclipse@reddit
You can have any color you want, as long as it’s gray
Erlend05@reddit
I reserve my judgement till i see it in person but it does look rather gray
sugarfreeeyecandy@reddit
I've been referring to this color pallet as stormy sky colors. Every one of them is lifted from the range of colors in stormy skies. They are pretty, but I personally prefer bolder colors not usually seen in nature.
doug_Or@reddit
Is it my phone or is this just a new gray?
DM725@reddit
It's green on my 4K Mini-LED monitor. Everyone is viewing the picture with a different display so there will be people that see it as grayer than I am.
A_Fartist@reddit
Yeah, I’m on an iPhone with the brightness at about 90% and I see green, a dulled green but still very much green.
Oh_ffs_seriously@reddit
It's green the same way homeopathic medicine is medicine.
A_Fartist@reddit
Perceive it how you will, doesn’t change the fact that I see green.
Oh_ffs_seriously@reddit
It's moldy gray.
LincolnAveDrifter@reddit
It's prob like guard green on mustangs. Looks great with black wheels 😍
Safe_Presentation962@reddit
What? It’s definitely green.
stakoverflo@reddit
No, even on a decent quality desktop monitor its a shit color
Dense_Purchase4087@reddit
looks like the Grey green on Honda Odysseys
AwesomeAndy@reddit
Reminds me of the green iPhone Pro from a few years back. 14 maybe?
phenix_igloo@reddit
Same. It looks mostly metallic gray with a slightly greenish hue to me.
Ok-Woodpecker-223@reddit
Matte grey mixed with British racing green imo
UmaThurmish@reddit
that would be 50% green.
this is like 5% green
Liesthroughisteeth@reddit
I think it's called Road Blend. Because when other drivers look in your direction the car just blends into the road, which is perfect, unless you WANT people to know you're there.
tythousand@reddit
I like it
xdojk@reddit
Mazda has really good colours, I love their reds especially even though there's no way I'd buy a red car unless it was a Ferrari
ninjastk@reddit
Mixture is like 90% zinc.
jezwel@reddit
I was hoping for something like the Zeekr green. That colour is beautiful.
Fuck resale value, I keep my cars long enough for that to not matter.
Bamres@reddit
I like it.
an_angry_Moose@reddit
I like it too… but I also don’t disagree with the commenters who were hoping it was in the same league as crystal soul red. Mazda should really hit every color that way.
Bamres@reddit
Yeah a vibrant, metallic green would be cool, but I dont mind this being more subdued
ItsGizzman@reddit
They literally already have a more vibrant, metallic green called Cypress Green they just introduced last year for their crossovers. I cannot understand how they didn't just use that exact paint for the 26 ND.
aprtur@reddit
They don't have it, it's a Toyota color and only on the CX-50 because it's built in a shared factory with the Corolla Cross. That's the same reason why you can buy a Corolla Cross in Mazda's Soul Red.
ItsGizzman@reddit
Ah gotcha, that makes more sense.
Bamres@reddit
My dad has one in that color and its nice
Pogys@reddit
No, they really shouldn't.
Signed, Auto body painter
an_angry_Moose@reddit
Hah!
Capri280@reddit
doug_Or@reddit
I wonder if the formulation has changed over the years? Classically Zinc Chromate primer was a bright yellow-green
GhostofDaiLi@reddit
Work in a facility that sprays it. It's still bright yellow-green.
SothaSil@reddit
What a weird choice by mazda to flex that their paint is inspired by primer and also be wrong
GhostofDaiLi@reddit
Tbf the last object I laid eyes on that was painted that color was the cockpit of an A6M5 so maybe it evokes some feelings?
isailing@reddit
Oooh, industrial anti-corrosive coatings. Sexy.
Fatigue-Error@reddit
Everything is shades of primer these days, or red. Give us more colors! Miatas actually need brighter colors to be noticed on the road, it’s arguably a safety issue.
yourmommaisaho@reddit

Windows-XP-Home-NEW@reddit
Why is this such big news? Genuinely who cares?
NobleGas18@reddit
Shittiest hue of green ever. This is worse than no green option.
countingthedays@reddit
Why is this news on every car sub? It's a color.
cruzge@reddit
Mazda were like “whoops we put too much green in this grey, guess we have to roll with it.”
zoned_off@reddit
How are you gonna announce a brand new color and showcase it with only 1 photo that appears to be washed out?
NoodleBooch@reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/Miata/comments/1tt5dy8/more_zinc_green_metallic_nd_photos/
The_Bucket_Of_Truth@reddit
Wow it's so underwhelming
Ecsta@reddit
Wow somehow it looks even more boring and sad in high res.
rugbyj@reddit
They haven't invented pixels yet that can display it properly.
OreeOh@reddit
Yeah imagine it looks like Alfa's green in person lol
Recoil42@reddit
There are two images, one with a closeup of the paint. Look in the sidebar.
stakoverflo@reddit
1 low res image, at that!
BioDriver@reddit
Does Mazda’s paint contest only allow for gray tones or something??
popsicle_of_meat@reddit
They have such an insanely attractive red, too. Before opening the link I was expecting a headline-worthy awesome color. This "green" is super disappointing.
TheRealAbiril@reddit
Exactly I'm desperate for a beautiful deep green that shines in the sun the way soul crystal red goes from deep to bright.
They could even come out with a deeper version like they did with the red for their "super premium" stuff
TheRealAbiril@reddit
Yet another gray, pass
Give me colour you cowards
The_Iron_Ranger@reddit
Millennial Green
IsometricRain@reddit
Millennials are 100% picking british racing green, irish green, aston racing green, and verde ermes all day over this desaturated crap.
Hell, Nissan just announced a green for the Z that actually looks great.
UndercoverGTR@reddit
Yes the new Z facelift has Unryu/Shinkai Green which looks outstanding IMO, also available with a tan interior
Fine_Abbreviations32@reddit
Doesn’t matter if it’s green or grey, it’ll change to a nice rusty red in a few years.
ZM326@reddit
I'd buy that for a dollar
meatmacho@reddit
Seems this is trending. Nissan has their Baltic Teal that seems similar. Which I think looks great with the chestnut leather interior.
Snaggl3t00t4@reddit
So...green?
lemonhello@reddit
It looks like the green of a 1995 Honda civic that’s been sun damaged
ItsKlobberinTime@reddit
I have a "Gotta Have it Green" car.
It is green.
That "Zinc Green Metallic" is not green.
That's just grey that's been wafted past a can of green paint.
reward72@reddit
Why can't they just make a "soul green" that has the same depth and vibrancy as their "soul red"?! That would be perfect. But noooo... it must be another dull color. Heck, they even gave it a dull grey top, dull black wheels and an equally dull geriatric beige interior. Come on Mazda! The Miata is fun. Give us fun colors.

Mazda’s version of I want grey but I’m afraid of being called boring.
Nostra_Damoose@reddit

heimos@reddit
Develop and release that new rotary sports car already
newcarguy2019@reddit
Jeez people complain about everything.
Anteater_Reasonable@reddit
Reminds me of Volvo’s new slightly greenish gray. Boring. Why doesn’t Mazda have a good blue or purple?
ThatsnotaVol-VO@reddit
Yep came to post the same. Forest Lake Green. Which I get on a Volvo as they’ve been doing the muted grayish colors for a while now, but I expected something bolder from Mazda.
sunburstbox@reddit
mazda is colorblind
Froloswaggin@reddit
kinda looks like the hakone color
clintnorth@reddit
And this is a news story why?
izwald88@reddit
Wonder if it'll be as shitty and fragile as Soul Red Crystal Metallic.
Safe_Presentation962@reddit
I don’t understand how yall are looking at that and calling it gray. It’s clearly green. No it’s not a bold saturated green, but it’s very much green.
Safe_Presentation962@reddit
I love it!

If you can pair it with the tan interior on Club or Grand Touring this will be okay, but if not, its a missed opportunity. British Racing Green would have been a significantly more compelling choice.

Low-Umpire236@reddit

GoddamnIronTiger@reddit
Like most folks here I’m disappointed it isn’t brighter or like… actually green at all.
Another thing though, Mazda paint is notoriously hard to accurately match by body shops given the way it’s applied to the car.
backpackrack@reddit
Black and white are super easy to paint match, polymetal and machine grey are tough but soul red is a fucking nightmare apparently because the clear coat is tinted.
Jet Black Mica is easy as I (not a pro) covered well over 150 paint chips on the front end alone after a few track days and spirited autobahn runs. It collected paint chips like no vehicle I have ever had before.
GoddamnIronTiger@reddit
Yeah I was thinking of Soul Red specifically. Had an RX-8 in that color and my brother-in-law is a bodyshop guy and said it was a nightmare.
backpackrack@reddit
The RX8 never came in Soul Red. Did you repaint it in Soul Red or do you mean Velocity Red?
GoddamnIronTiger@reddit
Copper red I guess. Whatever they called the factory red for the RX8
stakoverflo@reddit
So sick of these cowardly "colors". Give us something saturated for fucks sake.
Prince_Nipples@reddit
Mazda paint team made Soul Red Crystal then took the rest of the year off 😭
JayPie42@reddit
Great colour... for a tank
ExtruDR@reddit
You know what? instead of another basic gray option, I'll take one with a green tint.
It seems that nowadays if someone wants a bold color they will pay for a wrap anyway. Seems like a not-bad option since the special colors always end up being almost as expensive as getting a wrap done anyway.
In a semi-fantasy world, I'd buy my Taycan in a dark gray metallic but have the wrap done in Laguna Seca Blue for shits and giggles, and if I get bored with that I can get another wrap done in a couple of years.
PaulClarkLoadletter@reddit
500 shades of gray. Car buyers are afraid of colors so they go with the “safe” choice. It’s why trade in values on grayscale vehicles are higher.
rainbowgeoff@reddit
A dull green.
Not enough brighty colored cars. Everyone buys for resale value. Black, beige, white, gray, or fuck off.
jonnyrocket@reddit
Thats awesome. Put it on a turbo rotary platform and I'll buy one today.
VladimirSteel@reddit
It should have been closer to that bright green they used to have on the Mazda 2
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
So teal?
Kongary@reddit
The safe "I can let it get dusty for a bit" grey-green. Not the vibrant green I'd be looking for when time to shop again. Maybe looks better in real life. Nori Green Pearl on Lexus is one green recently that made an impression.
owleaf@reddit
It looks like the colour Kia has been using for a while now. Why did this need a press release?

Also, maybe develop some decent cars worth putting it on apart from the Miata?

This is actually pretty shit. I prefer Forest Greeb
rhunter99@reddit
Not as thrilling as their fabulous red
InsuranceByBill@reddit
The colour is nice enough in a "I don't want grey, but sort of do want grey" way. Would look great on a small truck. Ridgeline in that colour? Oh heavens.
But a green version of what they did with Soul Red would be amazing.
Hercusleaze@reddit
I wonder if this color will pop in the right sun light like their Soul Red Crystal does. Soul Red doesn't really photograph well either. Can't wait to see it in person.

Why can we not have color in our lives? I swear every car lot around here is just a see of black/white/grey. Maybe the occasional apologetically red car.

Only Mazda puts out press releases for new car colors. Meanwhile, every German manufacturer has a catalog of every color ever made as well as those that only certain birds can actually see. I don't need to know when Mazda "develops a new" beige, grey, or red anymore. Now with that said, hell yeah new green Miat!

This color with that new tan interior color in the 26 CX-5 would look great on pretty much everything they sell.

I had a “River Rock Green Mica” Toyota Land Cruiser that was basically just a weird shade of grey, and I loved it. This reminds me of that but darker.

I quite like this color actually, but that’s because I like boring colors. This really is the most desaturated green I’ve ever seen haha
