Can't wait to see how they fuck this up. By the time it hits the showroom floor, it will probably have a turbocharged 1 liter 3 cylinder and be FWD only.
And the odds are it will not have a single physical switch or button anywhere. It'll end up being all touch screen other than the steering wheel itself.
Drzhivago138@reddit
The closest equivalents to that right now are the Chevy Trax and Buick Envista with FWD only and 1.2L turbo I3s, and they have plenty of physical buttons.
Apexnanoman@reddit
Yeah but GM is bringing back a nostalgia vehicle. Which means they are going to totally lose the plot.
Seen the new blazer ? The FWD blob?
Ford at least managed to understand the goal when they made the new full size bronco.
GM is just gonna fail hard.
Drzhivago138@reddit
No, I've been under a rock for the past decade.
Apexnanoman@reddit
So you see why I feel GM is going to make another terrible fwd crossover when given a nostalgia name to play with.
prowler28@reddit
GM, hardly ever innovates anymore, just likes to follow the market trend rather than set them. The only reason they would bring it back is because they're envious of the Bronco success and don't want to be seen without an answer, despite the Wrangler and Land Cruiser also selling well.
The only good thing I see from this is that maybe Ford might offer a V8 in the new Bronco by shoehorning it in? I don't want to hear how it's impossible, competition is where innovation comes in.
urahozer@reddit
What will never make sense to me is GM and Chev for the last 5 years just watched the Bronco sell like hotcakes and didnt want to get in on it.
peakdecline@reddit
I'm hoping this isn't a Wrangler/Bronco style SUV. But rather a 4Runner/Land Cruiser style SUV.
Drzhivago138@reddit
As in, fully enclosed body? I would assume it would be, since GM was one of the first to fully embrace that style with the S-10 Blazer in 1983 and the full-size Blazer in 1992.
peakdecline@reddit
Yeah. I want something that's going to rival the Wrangler/Bronco for off-road capability but doesn't have the NVH issues they do.
mrnikkoli@reddit
I do think that would be a good idea just because even though off-roady SUVs are doing well, it is somewhat of a niche market. Wrangler and Bronco are each other's primary competitors for their type of off-roady SUV, but I don't think the 4Runner really has a proper direct competitor right now. If GMC slotted the new Jimmy as more of a 4Runner competitor than that could be interesting.
Hopefully it's a bit more comfortable than the 4Runner like how the Colorado/Canyon are more comfortable than the Tacoma.
twd_2003@reddit
Hopefully they don’t turn it into a Blazer style Bronco Sport rival
Beardedwrench115@reddit
Most likely will either be an upbadged Blazer/ Blazer EV or maybe if we're lucky, a lower spec Hummer EV based suv
NOT_EVEN_THAT_GUY@reddit
my name is jimmy and you better not wear it out
Fofolito@reddit
Wow, what a nothing-burger of an article.
cwatson214@reddit
As is GMAuthority tradition
Nerdenator@reddit
They’re trying to play into nostalgia with a bunch of people who won’t be satisfied unless they make the exact same vehicle they made decades ago.
SubsonicPug@reddit
I’ll take “Things No One Asked For” for $2000 Alex…
Dangerous-Sock-3688@reddit (OP)
What? People having being screaming for something like this from GM for years.
SubsonicPug@reddit
Another badge-engineered crossover that borrows an older name and shares nothing with the original? Pretty sure GM has enough of that already. Maybe they can make a GTO revival that is just a Camaro (which is just an ATS) underneath.
One_Weird2371@reddit
They already fucked up the Blazer revival.
noblazinjusthazin@reddit
That website is absolute trash, holy hell. There was no actual news just raw speculation
Uniball38@reddit
Hopefully you learned your lesson and won’t click on those links again :) only way theyll stop
leedle1234@reddit
Are they only doing a GMC version because they've now sullied the Blazer name on that shitbox crossover?
RichardNixon345@reddit
Are we pretending the Jimmy name isn't more remembered for the little S10 based deathtrap SUVs it was used on for two decades?
Drzhivago138@reddit
I don't care about Blazer and Trailblazer names being reused on CUVs. They just should have put TB on the bigger one.
Drzhivago138@reddit
I'll believe it when I see it. GM Authority loves to report on things without naming their sources.
magnament@reddit
Do you think they maybe got it from GM? Just a hutch
JONCOCTOASTIN@reddit
Hutch
Drzhivago138@reddit
My dad built a corner hutch for his parents' dining room as a kid. He entered it in the local fair as a woodworking project and made it to state.
Drzhivago138@reddit
If so, then why not say GM explicitly?
theoreticaljerk@reddit
You do understand that’s how reporting leaks works, right? No one is going to leak information and risk their jobs and career if every media company required them to attach their name.
The problem isn’t anonymous sources. The problem is that media has killed all trust society used to have in them. Used to be you trusted that the news agency would validate info and the sources report before publishing and people had a certain degree of faith in that.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Pretty much.
Signal_Ball4634@reddit
Right you have so many supposed "insiders" just throwing shit at the wall nowadays.,
Dangerous-Sock-3688@reddit (OP)
The executive editor used to work for GM. I believe he has a lot of inside contacts to this day.
AquafreshBandit@reddit
Interesting, this is like when Ford did the retro Mustang… in 2005… which was 21 years ago.
bigbura@reddit
Would this sell like Jeep's pickup? A flash of hungry buyers and then nothing much afterwards?
Are we talking truncated Suburban platform size, an enclosed bed on a current pick-up design, or the next size down pick-up with an enclosed bed thing?
Would these size differences and differences in origins matter?
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Looks like GM will make GMC as Jeep answer too, not only to respond Ram.
As we’ve seen their Hummer X EV concepts 2 days ago, we can see GM now interesting to respond Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator and Ford Bronco. However, GM wants Hummer staying as EV only model, so new Jimmy as combustion off-roader makes sense.
DK4E2XFpbETJrj@reddit
Something boxy with that ZR2 bison package would be spicy.
ocmaddog@reddit
Great! Time to import Chinese EVs then
_Thorshammer_@reddit
Cool.
I wish it the best of luck.
