I’m currently buying parts for my first lower. I currently have a DD 11.5” upper, Griffin MK2 lower, and a G SSA trigger. I plan to SBR it.
Besides buying this, a LPK, and a buffer tube is there anything else I need?
Do I need an A5 buffer tube or carbine for this also?
Aahhyes68@reddit
I recently bought three of the "LBE AR BUFFER TUBE KIT H3 BUFFER BLK" 'S from them for $66.91 ea., Currently oos. That was a better deal, for my needs anyway.
Legitimate-Simple-98@reddit
Tossed this in my 11.5" upper. Perfect ejection now. Unsuppressed.
Shadez_Actual@reddit
Dang that thing must have been over gassed like crazy
Legitimate-Simple-98@reddit
Not anymore than the typical AR. Most people just do what they are told when it comes to buffers. "You have an 11.5 unsuppressed? You need an H2" and people just do it without asking questions. Most people could go up a weight class in a buffer and it will run great.
I bought an H3 so if the H3 didnt work I could just turn it into a H2 if needed. But it runs great with the H3 so far. Ejection around 4 oclock.

Because they're going off of general Milspec guidelines where the ammo and gas ports are always a known and optimized for each other, use civilian rifles meant to run on everything including Wolf and you are going to be overgassed with healthy NATO pressured ammo. This is why civilian Daniel Defense mk18's aren't true Crane-Spec .070" gas ports anymore and are more like .073"+, too many w/s calls from people using Wolf and anemic .223 Rem.
Even if you're using ammo and a gas port optimized for each other, you could still probably afford to go up at least one buffer weight class, you're probably don't need to be able to go through an Iwo Jima's worth of ammo between cleanings while in freezing temperatures (where combustion pressures are lower) while your gun is submerged in diarrhea, unlike what the military optimizes for.
Old_MI_Runner@reddit
I found that I can go up to an H3 and Sprinco red buffer spring with both my DDM4V7 and Ruger AR-556 MPR as long as I don't shoot very weak ammo like PMC Bronze. With Bronze last round bolt hold open does not work all the time. Both rifles will both strip rounds and chamber them without issue with the H3 buffers and Sprinco red buffers.
Foxxy__Cleopatra@reddit
I've never been able to over buffer any upper by weight alone (springs are an entirely different story), and I have a lower with a 16.4oz Rifle buffer and ARC Fire trigger lol. Even uppers with an AGB tuned to just barely LRBHO on a 3.0oz carbine buffer still LRBHO on the 16oz.
I see it sort of like pushing a vehicle on clear level ice, if one person can push a Miata it's really not too much more effort if any to push an SUV. Going up in springs is like increasing the steepness, and carbon/dirt/debris is like snow, too much and you're not going anywhere and gotta start digging. A maintained system shouldn't have enough friction where it's tough to move even if the total weight doubles. Increasing the weight does marginally shorten the round count you can go without cleaning but by the time it's choking on a 16oz, swapping it out for a 3.0oz is buying you a mag or two more at best.

It's actually more difficult to overbuffer AR15s than people realize

Agree

Anyone know how this compares to the Super 42? Or is an H3 basically an H3?
wormraper@reddit
the super 42 is an answer looking for a problem. they made a braided wire spring much like AK trigger springs, or Sig recoil springs of ye olden days claiming that it increased service life and made it stronger...reality is...it might increase service life a little. it might be a LITTLE stronger, but it doesn't do anything that a chrome silicone buffer spring couldn't accomplish.
the H3 buffer that is included in the H3 Super 42 system is the same buffer as this type, it's just that the thickness of the braided wire required a thinner buffer, so they took an H3 buffer and trimmed the sides a hair to fit in the thicker braided wire spring.
TLDR version. the super 42 is nothing special. it's just a braided spring that +25% XP (a little more than a sprinco blue, but not as much as a sprinco red) and uses a proprietary buffer (only due to physical dimensions in order to fit in the thicker braided wire spring).
Afro-Pope@reddit
Great. So basically, this and a sprinco blue will do virtually the same thing while providing better serviceability (since there are no proprietary parts) at roughly half the price of the Super 42?
wormraper@reddit
pretty much.

With my ACI Bravo that is not over gassed like the other two I am running a Sprinco blue spring and H1 buffer. With the Sprinco red spring and H2 buffer the ACI would cycle but the cases landed on the shooting bench and remained on the bench about a foot or so from the rifle. It stripped rounds from the magazine and loaded the next round without issue which I found incredible given such weak ejection.

Afro-Pope@reddit
Good to know. The price difference is such that I could buy this buffer and both springs (to see which I preferred) and still come out ahead of the Super 42.
Afro-Pope@reddit
Cool, thanks. You've got a very memorable username and I believe you've given me good advice in the past, so I'll trust you on this, too.
wormraper@reddit
lol, it certainly is memorable...and good luck with the build.

Great post, very helpful!
slasher0739@reddit
Might as well buy one or two of these, if you have an A5 or BCM MK2 system you can punch the roll pin out and swap the weights from these to them.
PewsandBoobs@reddit
Can you really? I’ve got an BCM MK2 H2 buffer and need to move up to an H3, the weights are the same size?
slasher0739@reddit
Yea, I just made my T1 a T2. You do have to put the weights at the front of the buffer where it touches the BCG.
LinuxMyTaco@reddit
What are you talking about front of the buffer? Aren’t you just replacing steel ones with tungsten and putting it back together
slasher0739@reddit
Yes but there’s 4 of them total. If you’re making a T3 out of a T2 the tungsten has to be stacked together at the front of the buffer. There will still be one steel one that should be at the back of the buffer tube. Does it really matter? Maybe for a super safety setup.
LinuxMyTaco@reddit
Awesome, good to know. About to do this the first time myself making my T2 a T3 so this is perfect. have a great week homie
Bubbly-Celery-4096@reddit
That’s what I did
kpag1@reddit
I’ve built a few ARs but never anything out of the ordinary and just went with whatever mil spec deals were out there. So I’m not too versed on this stuff.
Currently building 2 ARs right now and need to see if this is the right buffer for either of these builds any help is appreciated
12.5” 556 with an FRT. 7.5” 300blk no frt
I do not have a suppressor yet but I plan to get a 30 cal can to use between both of these builds. I’m thinking for sure I need for the 556, but not sure the 300blk
wormraper@reddit
for an FRT with a 12.5 in 5.56?? oh yeah, get an H3.
for the 300blkout it will really depend on the suppressor and how much back pressure it creates. you'd most likely be ok with an H2 for the 300blk for the most part, but an H3 would be handy when suppressed unless it's SUPER hotly gassed. 300blk is more finnicky with gas and buffer weights, so it probably is a good idea to get one for it anyways
Dreamon247_@reddit
Are these the ones with the reciprocating tungsten weights?
wormraper@reddit
yes, this is a traditional H3 buffer with 3 tungsten weights that create a dead blow effect.
JumpKP@reddit
Use code FACEBOOK for $5 off if you order is over $100.
CharmTech@reddit
At this point it's not even crazy to start stacking tungsten when it gets this low.

The person who thought these were fake and had to take them apart could have saved his time and effort and just used a scale.
There is no way to fake the weight of an H3 tungsten buffer.
NewbRedditer@reddit
Steel body
toolbloo@reddit
that would not require disassembly of the buffer.
NewbRedditer@reddit
True
SpiveyXIII@reddit
Could have been uranium or gold buffer weights, if that were the case I definitely would want to know if they were gold.
Financial-Sir-6021@reddit
Very very good price with current tungsten prices
TheRagingBull84@reddit
Even Texas Tax this is good.
