Ours doesn’t smell of farm, but it has a woolly smell - we also have a wool carpet, so it’s hard to tell which is which. But it does not make the room smell bad at all. We got ours from Woolroom.

I have a bamboo duvet that seems to work as well as feathers. I used to have feather duvets but gave them up because of ethical concerns and animal welfare. NB: the feather duvets I had were really old ones and had lasted for years.

Bamboo, interesting, will have a look. What brand is it? It’s a shame this thread has attracted so many posts recommending animal products despite asking for synthetic. There are three main reasons people might specifically want synthetic: allergies, animal welfare, and price. Wool and silk each have at least 2/3 strikes against them for these points. Bamboo possibly only price

Yes, the price may be a barrier as the ones I have are not cheap but honestly are so much better than synthetic. I buy the Panda brand. sometimes they have offers and there may be an introductory discount. The duvet filling is 50/50 bamboo with their NanoMicrofibre (whatever that is). The covering is entirely bamboo however. The 4.5 is on its second year and the 10.5 is on its third or fourth year with me. Really comfortable and even in the recent heat I've not been overheating much. I also have their 100% bamboo bedding which is also very comfortable and washes well on low 30C heat. I use the wool wash programme. I'm hoping I won't have to buy any more for some considerable time. It's an investment!

I've had one from Dunelm that was really nice. It had that crinkly sound and was stitched in square sections that was really puffy and squashy. I can't remember the specific one, but it was around £60-£70 for a double so not cheap.

I assumed this was a covert ad for soak and sleep haha as they have duvets called soft as down. I have 3 of them and they’re great, however their customer service is shocking. I have only bought bedding, pillows, linens etc from them for the last decade almost, but it’s recently been awful which has put me off. The duvets are great, but if you want down, they’re not gonna match up

Lots of brands use “feels like down” for some of their products, so it mustn’t be a copyrighted phrase. Just in a few Amazon search results you can see Silentnight, Slumberdown and Linens Limited using it. I know from in-person shops that the Silentnight and Slumberdown ones don’t. They are just marginally a bit squashier than the lower priced synthetic duvets.

Never had an issue (so can't comment on CS), I've got pillows and duvet from them (soft as down). It's pretty similar imo, nice crunchy sound from the cover. Does loose it's fluffy after a while but same as down in that respect.

Thank you for the award! 😊 It took a while to track down. I bought it from a company called cuddledown (cuddledown.co.uk). I just checked them and, unfortunately, their silk duvet is sold out (all sizes and both togs) ☹️. However, other companies do sell them according to a quick google search, including John Lewis and silk stores (Jasmine silk and Mommesilk)

I’ve got a couple from Dusk that really do feel like down to me. They have that kind of soft ‘crunch’ you get from down and are really cosy. I found the higher tog rating ones too hot though, not sure if that’s just due to it being synthetic it holds in heat more.

Have you considered getting a weighted blanket they are good for regulation give the weight of a heavy duck feather blanket but can also be thinner so you dont get to hot. I always used to go for duck feather now woth the weighted blanket i feel find without it. I have not found an alternative to pure duck feather firm pillows yet.

I got one from M&S that is really good. I don’t think there’s a perfect synthetic one but it’s been good, fairly breathable and washes well every few months. Just needs a good shake to make sure the fibres don’t bunch up when it’s wet.
