Gaming GPU market is too small and it's not economically viable to make enthusiast GPUs So there yes, everyone will be behind Nvidia just because it's not economically viable to compete. At 10% marketshare AMD would only sell like 100K (5090) equivalent GPUs. Do the math. Just the tape out costs like $100M. Not enough volume to make it worth wile.

When it comes to top end centerboard gear. mi450x should be faster than Rubin, and the 256 core Venice is definitely faster than 88 core Vera.

It’s tricky isn’t it. The government can act as a counterbalance to capital excesses, but it can also become a target for capture. Worst part is I tend to agree: our current wholly captured regulatory environment is on the whole a negative environment. But unbridled capitalism is simply feudalism. Altman and Huang are already talking about compensation in token allowances, just scrip in modern clothing. The government can be an effective counterweight to exploitation, we just lack the political will to make it a reality.

Every time I think of NVidia, I think of them putting CUDA into their cards IN 2006 and just sticking with it for so long that it didn't just pay off, it became an historically brilliant business decision. 10 years ago I remember looking over their cards at the different spec levels and scoffing at/being puzzled by CUDA in the same way I do at some of the more obscure features you see on CPUs.
