Several billion people were going to die this century even if things went well, because there's just that many people who were born before 2000. Most of the folks born since then will die this century too. It'll be sad that so many will die sooner than they would have otherwise. But think of the opportunity to acquire capital! (Because the amount of useable stuff in the world won't decline as fast as the population).
