Was riding to work today and heard a snap, thought it was the brakes so I walked her home and went to check tonight and found this on the back wheel area. I dunno if that’s a fixable thing but part of me feels it’s not so any info would be much appreciated thank you. Also if I gotta get a new frame is that something you can just buy?

It’s a good bike, I got hit by a goddamn truck on it about 8 months ago and it kept trucking this long
TirbFurgusen@reddit
I got hit by a car on mine and broke my leg, bike was perfectly fine and I'm still riding it. Xf800 model. They're great bikes for the price, not drop shipped junk from Amazon and the company will actually talk to you and address issues.

That part nudging you that it's not is right. This frame is finished.
You're likely looking at new ebike. Don't buy cheap since it's something that can get you hurt bad if it breaks.
wincycle@reddit
I had a cheap Costco bike that lasted years.
freddbare@reddit
$3kis "cheap" you must be clear to people here...
BoltyMcSpeedy@reddit
I spent under $1500 each on 2 lectric express bikes and each are still riding like new years later
freddbare@reddit
Different strokes... I just paid 600 for a refresh on my analog bike... I would have a hard time trusting the bike components at that price, forget about electronics nobody will ever service...
Underhill42@reddit
Yep. But Lectric has also earned a reputation for being some of the very best ebikes you can get for the money. They may look clunky, but are solidly built.
It seems like there's a lot of cheap garbage out there at similar prices though, and it only gets worse as the price continues to drop.

You can order the lower triangle from Cyrusher for 80 bucks. I had to do this twice to mine in 3 years. Once for a break lijes yours and once again for my dropouts getting stripped.

Bro, you're not cooked, you're burnt to a crisp. It's fixable, but you might as well just get a new frame with what it'll cost you + durability of any repair job done. Get a good frame this time, not any of the cheap shit.

Almost every bike made is made in China or some other Asian company. While some companies claim to be US, assembly is done here, components are sourced in most cases.
Day_Prisoners@reddit
...or some other Asian company. Too funny.
bobbyboogie@reddit
Don't buy a Chinese BRAND.
China has manufacturing levels from total crap to total excellence.
The name-you-have-never-heard-of, drop shipped, Amazon special is on one end of that spectrum.

Darkside_Hero@reddit

trickyvinny@reddit
Specialized.
Big_Red_Checkmark@reddit
Which is also manufactured in China lol
Visible_Barnacle7899@reddit
But it’s a better product, that was their point. Generally, legacy or “name” products do better quality control than most no-name drop shipped products.
jim914@reddit
I guess you haven’t opened the box of a brand name bike recently! The crap you find inside is only painted nicer still the same sloppy construction welds all look sloppy and I’ve seen many opened up to reveal they either forgot to install brake pads or the entire caliper not to mention how many disc brake bikes I’ve opened to build working in a retail store only to find brake fluid all over the bike! Quality control in China is simply does it look like a bike shaped object if so box it up and send it out. I opened up a schwinn hybrid only to find a huffy mountain bike inside the box, never opened fresh shipment at beginning of the year to get ready for the season so it wasn’t a return and I work for Target we don’t return defective bikes to our warehouse they are sold to recycling companies after all rubber and plastic is removed.
aninjacould@reddit
My Cannondale does not have sloppy welds.
jim914@reddit
Well they are not all made in china cannondale has factories in Taiwan and Vietnam also! Maybe yours wasn’t made in china.
coop_stain@reddit
The difference between anything specialized makes and anything Schwinn makes these days is so vast it may as well not count in this conversation.
I’ve never had a bike that forgot brake pads, welds on the new Norcos I get look great, even on the cheap ones. The ccasionally I’ll have an issue but it’s almost always due to taking a tumble during shipping (something bent, chipped, etc) in which case we get a credit and everything is great.
There are absolutely levels to Chinese manufacturing. Schwinn is on the lower end.
jim914@reddit
True but saying a recognized brand name is the way to get good quality is also not a good idea in tho conversation because schwinn is one of those brands that people associate with quality especially in Chicago! They have no idea the company hasn’t made a bike in the area for many years but it’s still a brand associated with quality. Personally after I owned a super le tour and the frame fell apart on the first long ride to Wisconsin back in 1981 I’ve never owned or rode a schwinn since. At that time even the shop that sold my dad the bike claimed it couldn’t be warranties because they claimed it wasn’t a schwinn bike! It took a lawyer writing a letter to the company to get a refund since they still refused to warranty replace it.
Visible_Barnacle7899@reddit
“Generally” is the operative word here.
coop_stain@reddit
Generally speaking, if you can get it at a bike shop it’s at least a decent enough bike that someone will stand behind it. If it’s coming from a big box store or the internet it’s junk barring some specific DTC companies like canyon, Aventon, and ride1up
jim914@reddit
Yeah but a big box store takes returns no questions asked and you get a full refund no matter what! Bike shop be ready with legal counsel and prepare to fight for your rights as a consumer. Been there no that and recently it was just a part I ordered and when I ordered it I was quoted a price and paid in full, 2 weeks later I get message saying it’s here so go to pick it up not only is it completely wrong part it’s the wrong color and the staff says not our fault so you want to order something else and of course no refunds on special order parts! No policy posted or on receipt so I pull out phone call brother in law ( lawyer) and ask ready to sue a business got refunded immediately!
coop_stain@reddit
That’s just a shitty business…as a guy who runs a bike shop I take returns on shit all the time. Especially if I order the wrong thing. I also don’t take payment on special orders till you pick it up to make sure it’s correct.
jim914@reddit
You’re a rare situation and we found out that the shop in question decided to not order from their regular supplier and sourced it online which was their fault yet still wanted to keep the money! I don’t mind paying up front to order something but when it’s not my fault because I show you what I need and you look it up how am I at fault?
LieLevel7361@reddit
It's got literally nothing to do with place of manufacturing. What's important is quality control and not using worst materials then you should. Unfortunately it is easy for chinese to do as they like when they don't care about brand.
band-of-horses@reddit
A lot of specialized frames are made in Taiwan, with the motors made in Germany.
And more importantly, they are designed in the US and Switzerland and manufactured with careful specifications by trusted suppliers, not just assembled from a parts bin of ready made Chinese crap.

The issue is dirt cheap bottom of the barrel, not that it's chinese. Most frames are made in Taiwan anyways.
Usual-Mango7775@reddit
How did a lil 750w motor do all that?
radfordra1@reddit
Do you realize how much torque that outputs? Way more than that frame was designed for. Always use proper torque arms for 500w and higher.

No torque arm on a 500w (likely higher motor)

As an retired machine builder/machinist I could fix this bicycle so it was safe and rideable. I would make two pieces of aluminum the approximate shape of the bottom of the frame and bolt 🔩 them together through the broken frame. Paint it white. Make an extra set for when the other side breaks. It's a hack but usable.
Witty_Week661@reddit

ludeawakening89@reddit
Nah, any good welder who can weld aluminum will be able to fix that and make it even stronger. They just need to weld it back together and then weld a small rectangle plate on each side. I'd also get the other side done while I was at it. My friend's frame snapped just like that after a jump. A guy fixed it and reenforced both sides for $115. It only took 30 minutes to do it. Your entire frame needs to be inspected really good for more large and small micro cracks.
nutimikguy@reddit

the_incredible_ant@reddit
Try super glue or JB Weld
bombscare@reddit
A welder with the skills to do this would cost more than a new frame and it would fail again regardless. (This from a welding expert.)
hysys_whisperer@reddit
And if you happen to be a good welder, the next failure won't be at your weld, but somewhere else with a fatigue crack.
This is the sign of a poor casting, and the whole piece was cast together all the way back to the nearest welds. You can see the one on the left here, but not the other end.
Next time it cracks, it could do so right across the bolt hole...
bombscare@reddit
Exactly, plus the design was shit to begin with, with the changes in section and weld proximity.

regal1989@reddit
I don’t know what kind of ebike you have, but if it has typical bike geometry, you can probably gut the ebike bits and slap it to a new frame. If it’s a fat tire ebike with a battery that doesn’t mount to a bottle boss, that’s gonna be more difficult.

I wonder whether that part was cast or cnc’d. Given that this is a cheap off brand DTC ebike, that is likely cast aluminum. Another poster is correct that on a rear swing arm suspension bike, theoretically, you could replace the swing arm but only if you can get the part. Nevertheless, if that crack happened on a cast part, I would be concerned about it happening again.

It would be possible to weld it. You would have to check on how much that would cost.
A better option would be to replace the frame. If the broken frame has been stressed badly it might fail at another spot. I have no idea whether you could buy a new frame or not. You would have to contact the manufacturer.

Temporary-Film-7374@reddit
Looks to me like swingarm rather than frame (or is it a hardtail? I wouldn't have expected the part on the right to be bolted in that case), but yes, it's toast. not worth the risk of repairing.
YeaYouGoWriteAReview@reddit
its a full suspension bike, that bolt is a pivot.
Snoo96357@reddit
Dammm what pothole did you hit ?
Ivethrownallaway@reddit
Which Cyrusher model was it?
As others have said, it is fucked beyond repair. From how it broke, I'm guessing it is stress from heavy loads and impacts on the rear wheel. It didn't happen in one go, aluminium fatigues over time, and eventually fails. All aluminium frames are eventually susceptible to this, but it more common on cheap chinese bikes with fat tyres. Those bikes are made to price point. They typically aren't engineered quite the same as more classical brands. There can also be more issues with the aluminium alloys. Most importantly, a fat tyre and a heavy bike puts a heavy strain on that kind of rear suspension.
In my humble opinion, 4" tyres and rear suspension doesn't make much sense anyway, even more so when you add a rear wheel motor The rear wheel is just to heavy to allow the suspension to work properly. If you add a rack and luggage on top of that, then I can see how those frame break quickly. On terrain where a fat tyre is good, like loose soil, sand, snow, you don't need rear suspension. For commuting on pavement, you also don't need rear suspension. It's unecessary weight and maintenance, and a hardtail makes a much stronger frame. I'd argue you don't even need 4" tyres, but that's your choice.
I'd recommend selling your bike for parts and treating yourself to a nicer new bike. If you're riding it hard enough to break a frame, it proves that cheap chinese bikes won't cut it for you.
Go try bikes in your local bike shops!

You *could* easily get away by welding it,or taking it to a shop and have them weld it,or if that's not an option, just frame swap
Aggravating-Lemon705@reddit
On a regular bike maybe and that’s still a risk. On an E-bike it’s just not an option. E-bikes exert much more force on that specific area, as well as the rear wheel, and would make this likely to injure the rider. They’re honestly lucky that it dint go worse after the snap, I’m especially surprised it dint derail.
mellofello808@reddit
DDDX_cro@reddit
weld it, specially if the other side's intact,
You will have to find someone skilled at welding aluminium, though...and it will have to be thicker than it was.
LiamFox381@reddit
For most bikes, a new frame ends up costing more than replacing the whole bike.
Aggravating-Lemon705@reddit
So while true, if the electronics can be saved as well as the wheels and brakes OP could spend the same as a new bike, or a lil less, on a much much better frame. This would prevent this from being an issue.
Then_Entertainment97@reddit

Veganarchy-Zetetic@reddit

Gold_Area5109@reddit
Yeah, that frame is done. Unless you know someone who can weld pot metal or aluminum.
That it cracked there is a good indication the frame isn't worth fixing.
You could find another frame and transfer parts, if it's a new bike it's worth contacting the seller and seeing if they'll send a replacement. If you bought it via Amazon you have them to go through is the seller wont do anything. Credit Card company as a last resort.
ilkikuinthadik@reddit
Even if you did know someone good, it'd never be the same strength
ShardCollector@reddit
Do you need to ask 😬
If the parts are good, you can buy a new frame or even a used bike and transfer them over.
Thunderbuddy76@reddit
It can easily be welded back together. I could do it for you in about 20 minutes.. it all depends on the quality of the metal looking at it. It seems a bit air bubbly which indicates that it’s very cheap aluminium. It could definitely be repaired though if you know someone local.
