Ahoy Ajax

Ahoy. Posting here because having a moment of boat love and thought I’d share.
Ajax is a Corten Steel moderate cruiser built in 1991.
Cutter-rig sloop, 3/4 keel, roller furler 150% Genoa, small blade for inner forestay hanked on.
Engine is a 65hp Perkins 4.203. Engine has done 10000 then was rebuilt “for safety”. Fixed prop.
Fuel and water storage all stainless (will go to plastic when water tanks fail.
Bilge is dusty dry.
New carpets, new stove, new squabs, new 120amp alternator (batteries are great but hours unknown, and they were very dry when I bought the boat)
Have owned Ajax around 4 years, do all work myself. Boat is sailed at least twice a month, and I sail it for around 4-6 weeks every Christmas.
Right now i have Ajax as a weekend apartment, and live around 4-5 days in a company apartment.
Ajax is mission ready at all times, and will do extended trips with about a day of prep and loading up.
I’ve done maybe 5k nm on Ajax, all NZ coastal sailing.

Besides all the stuff just laying around everywhere (imagine the boat laying 90 degrees on its side, I am sure that nylon netting above the stove is not a fire hazard.

Fair comment. Nets are stowed in heavy weather, and we sure aren’t cooking!
Yes, stuff everywhere is pretty normal for a weekend on the boat fitting starlink and various other jobs….wont pretend the boat is stowed.

I agree but I believe in a tight ship. If I am not using it, it gets put away.
I don't want to be the next inspiration for "All is Lost II"

How long is your boat?
Strict_Swimmer_1614@reddit (OP)
43 feet if you’re a marina asking. 45 feet if I’m drinking rum.
smootex@reddit
Weird, usually things tend to get smaller under the influence of alcohol.
Strict_Swimmer_1614@reddit (OP)
Boat length, wind speeds and wave heights all increase….scientists all agree :-)
Mythurin@reddit
Ah, a man of Culture I see! I do also tell exact sizes after Rum.

I saw your companionway slides and my knee started spontaneously bleeding. I am not jealous.
Strict_Swimmer_1614@reddit (OP)
Interesting perspective….never seen a knee hit them, but no one goes down the companionway forwards. You’ve made me think I should put some rubber stops on them though!

Just an overactive imagination on my part, I’m sure.

Nice boat! Love that cockpit.

Isn’t huge, but for a short-handed it’s plenty roomy. Best sailing is 2-4 people.

Lovely boat congratulations!

Thank you handsome stranger.
