What to keep and what to toss when pulling a 5.3.

Hello! I was curious to get some insight from somebody that knows better. I have an old 06 sierra that recently died on me and I want to take the engine out and put it into a different project. My question is what do I need to keep in order to keep the fuel injection setup with the least amount of money?
All the research I’m finding says I need to keep the PCM and the ECM. The issue I have is they are all hooked up with this massive harness to the fuse block and It looks like it’s going to be a real son of a bitch to get out. On top of reading on forums seeing I may have issues with the anti theft precautions on it.
I took a 5.3L out of a 99 Silverado and put a carb on it and slapped it into an 82 Camaro and it was not as cheap as I was hoping (not that I thought it was gonna be cheap cheap) and the damn thing sits so high I had to take the hood off and I’m trying to get the profile down on the next project.
Any thoughts or help or guidance would be helpful

Before you pull the harness, take the clamshell off and read the hall effect key sensor resistance with key in and power on. Then you can put an adjustable resistor in that circuit to the computer so it thinks it has the chipset key, and run your normal ignition on the swap car.
You need lots of little bits and bobs so its best to have the complete truck there while you do the swap. Following that take a ton of pictures as you take everything apart and transfer them to a USB stick. You need to keep almost all the wiring unless you want to buy a swap kit and standalone pcm.

You're going to want the entire engine harness and ECU, unless you plan on using a standalone. If pulling that is too much work for you then just scrap the whole thing because doing the swap is way more work.

It’s not so much a too much work problem it’s more of a I don’t know what I can and can’t keep problem. Tearing out the only other one I’ve ever done was a hack and slash job and figure it out later. Now that I know better I’m trying to figure this out but most of the info I’ve been finding hasn’t been helpful at all. Hence why I’m asking

Ok well unless you want to pay for an aftermarket harness, sensors, standalone ecu, you're going to want to take it all out in one piece.

Harness, PCM, fusebox, O2 sensors, cats, if driveby wire get the throttle control computer, wiring to the pedal, and pedal.
Buy an LS engine lifting plate, or use the seatbelt method tied around the headers.
Be careful not to break the sensor on the back of the intake manifold on the firewall if you use the seatbelt method.

Toss: the 5.3

Get the computer and all the harness to every sensor
Save as much of the fuel system as you can Lines etc
Easiest thing is if you have a place to keep the truck until you need it ,
You will have to send the computer to get it tuned ton remove the chip key antitheft stuff
