Umbros are back! Anyone else part with a nest egg collection after the high school sports years? I had a ton of these

My husband still has a pair of umbros haha
atari2600forever@reddit
Where can you buy them? I lived in Umbros in 7th and 8th grade
thereadingsloth@reddit
They have them on the Target and Umbro websites.
teacamelpyramid@reddit
I ended up with a few red pairs when my local Sports Authority went under and everything was 80% off. They were for cross country practice and in my school colors so I wore them until they fell apart.
tcorey@reddit
I still have some of these from the 90s
Modem_Handshake@reddit
To their credit, they ARE comfy
blamberr@reddit (OP)
I actually think they still look cool. I’d never have stopped wearing them if society didn’t force my hand as an established follower of everyone else at that point
Modem_Handshake@reddit
Are you really saying you had to put pants on for the office? Bc same
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Literally what I’m saying, and it’s been an adult life nightmare 😭
Modem_Handshake@reddit
Crying with you in spirit, in my slacks
thewilldog@reddit
And they last forever. I still have my originals in a drawer somewhere
Sensitive_Diamond328@reddit
I still have mine in every color, they still fit me and now they fit my 15 yo son. I have a bunch of Soffees too, if anyone remembers those.
Remote_Bumblebee2240@reddit
They will make a great 30th high school reunion gift.
Maniac1978@reddit
Bring on the cornrows and the Eastland shoes!
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Noooo on the cornrows 😭🤣
Capn26@reddit
We gonna rock them with some TEVAs?
Maniac1978@reddit
My 11 year old is wearing the exact same style Vans as I wore in the late 90s right now.
I know Vans haven’t ever gone out, but that he chose my shoes made me a little teary eyed.
Shinespark7@reddit
I think they pair best with some Sambas
Capn26@reddit
There’s no doubt. I had a crush on the entire girls soccer team. That was the official warm weather lower half for them. Dated several in high school too……. Good times, good times.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Now those I have a pair of still! I legit still wear them as water shoes when we go to a lake. Still in weirdly good shape. I’m sure they’re much more expensive now and probably not well made anymore
Capn26@reddit
I had the knock offs. You could always tell. The OGs had the fourth strap that went on the outside of the foot from the front strap to the ankle strap. I went to a sailing camp in eastern NC for a few summers in the early nineties, and EVERYONE had them. Yeah. They’re great. The croc before crocs.
TerpeneTiger@reddit
I've been waiting for these to make a comeback.
Maniac1978@reddit
Yup, I’ve been asking for it since the early 20s.
DipsyDooRight@reddit
Me too! Fuck yea Umbros!!
PiginthePen@reddit
My aunt worked at the umbro factory in NC.. I had all the things. Summer was the shit. Unfortunately we also had a wood stove and I melted several pair
pianotherms@reddit
What a great short story.
Maniac1978@reddit
This reply needs more attention. I want to make sure that everyone sees it and you are not cut off.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
HighSeasArchivist@reddit
I approve of this! Also, can we get low-rise jeans and whaletails back too?
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Separate-Parfait4995@reddit
I had to settle for the knock offs.
Searchlights@reddit
Same.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
We thrifted ours. My parents bought me maybe one pair new. They cost a fortune
Perfect-Agent-2259@reddit
I couldn't find any in the thrift store! My cross country team decided these were going to be our "bottoms" (school provided the shirts), so I had to save up my babysitting money to buy myself my one pair. Am still pretty annoyed about it, clearly.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
That sucks! I have no idea how we got so lucky finding so many. We also had it as a uniform for many sports, and we also had to provide our own lol.
Equal_Imagination300@reddit
If only they had pockets!!
Sdemon235@reddit
The samba's coming next?
TheDavidCall@reddit
Umbros were life in 1990.
legalpretzel@reddit
If you ask my 12 year old he’ll tell you Umbros are currently life. I bought him red ones to wear for 90’s day last year and he rocked them all summer. He got a bunch of them this summer (instead of his usual underarmour) and they’re showing up on the other kids at school now too.
StephInTheLaw@reddit
This is some good knowledge. Maybe I can coax my 14 year old out of his sweat pants with these.
AmazingRefrigerator4@reddit
I dont remember if they were required part of our soccer unis, or if we just treated them as if they were required. Also Umbro was a very popular choice for gym shorts in middle school.
Floundering_Dad_43@reddit
It wasn't that they were required, but that they were one of the only soccer shorts manufacturers back then, along with Adidas. This was before Nike or New Balance entered the chat
WeenyDancer@reddit
Any of y'all wear bicycle shorts under, just peaking out the bottom? In my area it was like white bicycle shorts under the two-toned umbros.
Memories unlocked!
Jay-Breeze@reddit
Yep. That was me as well!
aburningcaldera@reddit
You had to to stay warm
aburningcaldera@reddit
I was diadora and puma and never really dug the umbro gear - it was like owning Abercrombie and Fitch instead of JNCO jeans
Chancey3@reddit
Paired with the Adidas or Puma Soccer Kicks 👟
TheDavidCall@reddit
I still can’t believe Sambas have been timelessly cool and unchanged in 40 years.
vanderpump_lurker@reddit
Were frayed edges a thing at your school or only mine.
Frayed umbros with the Champion sweatshirt and vans.
batmansupraman@reddit
r/iswiped
blamberr@reddit (OP)
This made me lol. I actually did the same thing when I saw this image elsewhere before I posted it. I was hoping for a gallery of umbros
Top-Sleep-4669@reddit
It’s so weird seeing shit like this come back in to style.
neon_farts@reddit
Even worse is Champion is a cool brand now. I was embarrassed as all hell having to go to school wearing champion branded anything
pixelpheasant@reddit
Whut? Champion was coveted in the early 90s, and expensive AF
It was weird to see it become a discount brand
bootyhole-romancer@reddit
Apparently Airwalks were shit too?
I knew Champion wasn't a desirable brand back then, but I was wearing Airwalks and had no clue they had a bad reputation.
BuhByeNow01@reddit
My OG Airwalks were bomb, but expensive af. The bad rep came when they started using cheaper materials that brought them into the “budget” category.
vonnegutflora@reddit
Yeah, they used to be decent shoes, but when you started seeing them at Payless Shoes (or whatever the US equivalent of that was), the quality was straight garbage.
onesleekrican@reddit
I’m expecting Starter next lol
joecarter93@reddit
They’ve been bought and sold a few times over the years, but it looks like their current owner is making a push to get them relevant again:
https://www.starter.com/
captain_flak@reddit
Starter was always cool. 😎
onesleekrican@reddit
Same age so that tracks haha
Dazslueski@reddit
I’m gonna break out B.U.M Equipment next. Make it trendy, again ya know.
TurboSleepwalker@reddit
Wait til I strut around in my Bugle Boy jeans
muhredditone@reddit
"Over the past 2 years, B.U.M. has signed over a dozen new licensing deals. Most recently, the company introduced a new junior collection sold exclusively at Forever 21 and a young men's capsule at Urban Outfitters."
I don't know how many years it's been since it was 2 years but that's what their website says today. lol
TurboSleepwalker@reddit
It WAS cool the past few years, but I think younger Gen Z and Gen Alpha have pivoted from Champion within the past year and it's going back to not cool again.
VoidOmatic@reddit
I remember a kid threatening to end my life because I wore a champion shirt and part of my hair curled in the corner. I tell my kids what it was like back then. Just insecurity everywhere.
vanderpump_lurker@reddit
Champion was top dollar in my years. Grad '96.
Right_Hour@reddit
Fucken Carhartt too, LOL.
nonexistentnight@reddit
I had these Champion suede mid tops that were kind of like hiking boots. Think I had three pair overall, 2 in blue and 1 in green. Loved those things.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
That is my recollection too. Even though I had a champion sweatshirt in heavy rotation junior year. I did not realize it was back and cool now
Capn26@reddit
Man. That one’s taken some getting used to.
Al-ex-Bee@reddit
This is how my older cousins felt when I was wearing 70s ringer T-shirts in the 90s.
ColonClenseByFire@reddit
It happens all the time and not just to our generation. I remember my parents commenting on when bell bottoms came back. style is cyclical in 20-30 year blocks.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Yes, I was taken aback lol
ZubieZub@reddit
Bet I gave you a ton of wedgies back then too lol
blamberr@reddit (OP)
I never actually got a wedgie from anyone before. What a sad life I’ve led 🥺
BugEquivalents@reddit
6th grade flashbacks of Umbros with Hypercolors
blamberr@reddit (OP)
I had umbros but my parents flat out rejected a hypercolor for some reason. I felt so left out 😭
dragon34@reddit
I got hyper color shorts on clearance once and it turns out they were on clearance for a very good reason. Sit down? Well now your butt is a different color. Also the inner thighs were never the not heat reactive color
Party_Taco_Plz@reddit
Only one my parents ever let me have was a sale item at ROSS. Just so happened that it was an Adult XL in pink… Jr. High was rough…
Prize_Ad6430@reddit
I think the thought was it encouraged people to touch you. I was in junior high when these were popular and people would have handprints everywhere.
Hustle_B0nes_@reddit
In the 90s Unbro's meant some finger bangin' was going down.
SLyndon4@reddit
I still have one of my pairs of Umbros!
Shockingly, they haven’t fallen apart after going through the washer and dryer countless times.
Even more shocking: I can still wear them, 38 years later! I love them for scuba diving trips, they dry so quickly.
Emergency-Box-5719@reddit
Those still look fresh off the rack from 1993. Quality was legit back then.
SLyndon4@reddit
I had a pair of reddish-purple ones too, no idea what happened to them. =(
Intrepid-Mud4419@reddit
6th grade me got a boner in class with my Umbros and got called up to write in the chalk board.
PhoneJazz@reddit
Woman here, was getting a chalkboard boner like a rite of passage for middle school guys?
Intrepid-Mud4419@reddit
No it wasn’t a rite of passage. When boys are young and going through puberty boners just seem to happen for whatever reason. I swear it would just be random and couldn’t control it.
Emergency-Box-5719@reddit
Yep. Always just checking to see what's what.
Intrepid-Mud4419@reddit
Haha!
Shinespark7@reddit
I don't know why this is so relatable, but it is.
Enxu@reddit

Umbros and sambas
World Cup 26
Time is a flat circle. Be excellent to each other 🎸 🐎
Zargoza1@reddit
I’m still waiting on cashed jeans to come back.
Or parachute pants.
Emergency-Box-5719@reddit
Zubaz and jam shorts. Still remember privileged kids wearing Chiefs NFL themed Zubaz and thinking they were cool a/f.
fourofkeys@reddit
i thought i remember seeing umbro in walmart just a few short years ago. it's at urban outfitters? so it's like $70 for a pair of shorts?
JohnMpls21@reddit
The 90s shit coming back is so hilarious. All the young girls wearing my dad’s dorky glasses from that decade is really putting into perspective my thick glasses I wore in my 20s. My lasik is now worried about the readers that are approaching faster than I’m willing to admit.
Emergency-Box-5719@reddit
Yeah. Before long it'll be all flannel, No Fear, slashed to hell denim, and the Leon Kennedy again. But the flannel has always been here to stay as far as I am concerned. Comfortable is always cool.
CharlieGirl92@reddit
Shut uppp!
ShakeItUpNowSugaree@reddit
I think I still have a couple of pairs tucked away somewhere.
Automatic-Arm-532@reddit
Crazy people are wasting like 30 bucks on those shorts
beofscp@reddit
I still have a pair! They don’t fit but I’ve held onto them.
pianotherms@reddit
Ah, that takes me back to my soccer days. I'd get some new ones.
Fappy_as_a_Clam@reddit
Yall remember wearing umbros with boxer shorts and having the boxers be a little longer than the umbros so you could see the boxers hanging out below?
Gusto36@reddit
Came in to post this.
ferminriii@reddit
Is it possible these were required as part of our PE uniform? Or maybe we were required to have shorts for PE but everyone purchased that exact brand and you had to have them to be cool.
KrayzieBone187@reddit
I think I still have a gold pair in my old dresser at my parents house. I must check this weekend. I could be cool again!
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
Umbros were cool, especially neon green.
meggsovereasy@reddit
My sister recently sent me a text with these asking if I was going to buy them. Duh, already debating it.
AllDressedKetchup@reddit
I completely forgot I had those shorts in black back then!
Fredwood@reddit
I was so jealous, as a kid I couldn't afford umbros, but all the cool kids had them. By the time I started buying my own clothes I couldn't find them anywhere
SickOfNormal@reddit
Screw the Umbros .... Can we talk about how depressing it is someone donated about 50+ of my concert tshirts and OG cds I bought at the shows. Shits worth big money now =/
CharlieMoonMan@reddit
Does that mean my 1998 13 old white Wisconsin self is safe to wear the sleeveless baseball Fubo jersey from back then? No? Anyone? Ok good. Thank God.
threepair13@reddit
Ok, so I saw them in Ross and given the nature of things they’re out by now if we’re just hearing about them
Usualausu@reddit
What’s next? bebe!?
cafeteriastyle@reddit
My mom still has a pair of my Umbros from when I played soccer in like 1996
jcstrat@reddit
With everything that has been coming back, I was hoping Umbro would make it!
muhredditone@reddit
I wonder if we'll see the leather bottom Jansport come back.
nartimus@reddit
As an former soccer player, my collection of Umbros was vast and varied.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Same! Played for 10 years. Collected many pairs in high school, especially
No_Flamingo9331@reddit
Omg when I finally got a pair I think I wore them every day for a month. I don’t remember how much they cost but they were way more than whatever my parents were spending on my clothes at the time.
MyDearDoctor@reddit
I had a black pair of Umbros that I loved. I was also fond of enormously oversized t-shirts and once got in minor trouble for wearing one with my Umbros because a teacher didn't think I had any pants on!
C-ute-Thulu@reddit
Didn't Umbros come back like 15 yrs ago?
Smoky1279@reddit
I think we all heard about a kid that lit his Umbros on fire when trying to light a fart.
Just-Try-2533@reddit
In 1994 I had the exact pair as the hot chick in this ad. Unfortunately I’m a dude.
seminarysmooth@reddit
I wouldn’t have them because tore through them all the time. Specifically, when sprinting, my thumbs would catch in the pockets and tear the shorts. And the crotch would rip out, too.
LittleJessiePaper@reddit
Unfortunately I don’t look nearly as cute in them as I did in 2000.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Same for literally everything else. Like my longterm collection of going out tops. They just sit there in my closet, sparkling, because they do not work nearly as well anymore lol
LittleJessiePaper@reddit
If I wear my going out tops now I just look like a frumpy realtor.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
Now you just need a low end Lexus with a real estate themed vanity plate. Also, this new associated visual will keep me out of my going out tops forever 🤣
BeeBeeDrinkDrink@reddit

BeeBeeDrinkDrink@reddit
I absolutely was grunting like him when I wrote that.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
likeusontweeters@reddit
They look smaller/shorter than I remember...
noblewind@reddit
This is how I remember them as the fluffy kid that couldn't wear them back then. They look longer on actual kids vs a long legged model.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
They are def shorter. I have pics of us playing soccer and the shorts are longer than this, including higher waisted
CaTz_EyE@reddit
I don’t know that they ever went away. My kids wore Umbros for soccer when they were younger. They had the shorts and shin guards. I bought it because I used to wear them when I was a kid. It’s an endless cycle.
Traditional_Isopod80@reddit
Definitely shorter than I remember.
blamberr@reddit (OP)
That’s not just your memory. I have a ton of pics in umbros and they look huge compared to these
LineImpossible3958@reddit
I got back into these a few years ago, bought a bunch on eBay, very comfortable and form reason the checkerboard pattern is like crack for my brain
FaeFollette@reddit
I actually forgot all about these, and I used to wear them ALL the time. “Umbro” was like a holy word to me. 🤣
affectionateanarchy8@reddit
I got a pair a few years ago for the hell of it
onesleekrican@reddit
Got rid of my JNCO’s right before they came back in style and had to buy my kids fat pants…
blamberr@reddit (OP)
I got rid of so many things that I wish I had hung on to. You don’t think stuff is gonna come back again, despite seeing longterm evidence that stuff usually does lol
onesleekrican@reddit
Exactly!
202reno@reddit
No way. Those be soccer shorts. We were a baseball house.
ValancyNeverReadsit@reddit
I had 2 or 3 pairs. I wasn’t a sporty kid but I did get some Umbros since everyone I knew had some and we had to get gear for playing soccer in PE class
I do like that these new ones don’t appear to have drawstrings… the older I get the more the strings annoy me
Skipper0463@reddit
All the kids that played soccer in my town wore these, but I didn’t like those kids, so Umbro was never on my list of brands to buy.
SinsOfThePast03@reddit
Definitely had a real weakness was for girls wearing them
msheehan418@reddit
I hope girbauds come back
msheehan418@reddit
I had one pair and I loved them
kannibalkitten1978@reddit
I lived in these between 92 and 96
brokenman82@reddit
I got made fun of for wearing them too much
playfulwarning@reddit
Wow, now there’s a name I haven’t heard in YEARS!
GeeAyeAreElle@reddit
Mine were longer but definitely a whole personality around grade 6
MushLampMaker@reddit
When I was in the 6th grade all the popular kids had Umbro shorts but I couldn't afford them. Maybe now I can finally get a pair.
Big_Focus_6059@reddit
The wide leg jeans and now Umbros - was also hearing Brittney and Back Street Boys all in the hotel lobby earlier today - weird times.
Suitable_Garlic_1186@reddit
I have basically the same from Puma
Bubbly_Wave_4049@reddit
I loved these shorts!
NurseCait@reddit
I think what makes it worse is that she’s wearing them SO low on her hips. They were super comfy though.
5iveOClockSomewhere@reddit
These shorts were the ultimate
blamberr@reddit (OP)
I had so many because my friends and I used to hit up all the thrift stores constantly. I do wish I had hung onto them.
