Wildlife Center in late 90s/early 2000s? School field trips

Anyone local who grew up here remember school field trips to a wildlife center around the area? Everything I see doesn’t appear to be it. Did it close? Thanks!

We did the Outdoor Learning Center, then in 5th grade we all went to Camp Classen. The year after my class ( so in ‘06 )they started going to that other camp that the county built.

You just unlocked a major memory of mine that I had mostly forgotten. I also went in '05 which I guess was the last year they went to Camp Classen. That was my one and only experience with summer camp haha.

Heck yeah camp classen. The first time I ever experienced jealousy. Other girls really took to my best friends (both boys) so they all started hanging out without me. I was sooo bitter lol. And we saw a copperhead outside the mess hall, the only time I’ve been near a poisonous snake.

I still remember the little song we wrote about our cabin haha, I think we all had to come up with a jingle. That was definitely the highlight of my Brinker experience.

After Camp Classen they went to the Collin County Adventure Camp. They also reduced the duration from a week to I think 3 days?
Collin County Adventure Camp was just sold to Boy Scouts (Circle Ten Council)

I have vivid memories of Katie the snake, visiting the outdoor learning center, they had a summer camp program at Bob Woodruff lake, you would hike through the woods and spend day exploring wildlife, that was the year the movie arachnaphobia came out. I have the book written and signed by Jim Dunlap I believe it was called they dont have to die, that was my first book, was 35 yrs ago

I loved Outdoor Learning Center! Loved seeing Katie. And The Science Place! Anyone remember that one? PISD in the 90s was great. Even if my cabin mom @ Camp Classen was completely unhinged...

What a trifecta—Jim Dunlap, Mr. Peppermint, and an armadillo!

I think that’s it!! That’s the same as Holifield also mentioned? They had snakes/some animals?

Holifield is the Outdoor Learning Center. Elementary students still go every year.

But what you really should be talking about is camp classen 😉(I know it’s not the area, but the outdoor learning center is closed to PISD activities I am pretty sure)
