In some areas there's more pedestrians being hit & injured by ebikes than by cars (despite cars being orders of magnitude more prevalent).
...not sure what the police's rules are for pulling ebikes in Ireland, but in my city (UK E-Midlands) you're only likely to get tugged if they catch you running a red or riding on the pavement. If you're riding sensible they don't really give a shit.
And I'm fine with that.
Something's never made sense to me:
In aviation, hot air balloons have right of way over everything because they're at the whim of the wind.
Helicopters have no right of way over anything because they can stop.
So how is it that the slowest, most easily stopped or direction changed entity on the ground has any right of way?
Because everything on the ground has sa similar level of control and can stop. Helicopters and airships are the only things that can stop in midair on command.
A hot air balloon can't do much to stay out of your way but a car can stay off the sidewalks just as much as pedestrian can stay off the roads.
I only meant on the roads, vehicles on sidewalks don't work.
A Person can stop and change direction 90degrees like a helicopter, faster than anything else.
Pedestrians only have right of way on sidewalks and crosswalks and they still have to give drivers enough time to stop.
Right of way loses to physics every time.
Which is why most sidewalks and bicycle lane paths should be elevated above car lanes and right turn driveways should also have the pedestrian path elevated to slow cars.
If we listened to physics.
I wish. I kive in a small town so its not quite as road ragey but we have two bike lanes. I never use one of them because I theyre four blocks out of the way of everything except the vet, bottled water store, train station and court house. The other one is ok but it leads to an intersection with divided right turn lanes and not enough room for a bike lane.
Cars aren't too pushy here, I have to ride a few km to work on the highway but at least the shoulder is wide. I couldn't imagine doing that in a city.
This is ridiculous. Don’t they have something better to do than hassle people? With that poor bike he can’t go faster than 40km/h (on flat) anyway lol and the worst he can do is crash himself and break legs. Who cares ? On trails I ride downhill 60kmh or more and nobody gives a shit but they are limiting support to 25kmh. Ridiculous.
That’s the thing, though. There are people who own bikes like these who also take safety and common sense seriously. Myself included. Just because I can go fast, doesn’t mean I do. Same with my car. Just because I can go 90 mph, doesn’t mean I do. With my e-bike and car, I follow speed limits, keep space between me and other people, pay close attention to my surroundings, and I make sure I am well protected while riding. Yes, it’s a gray area but not all fast e-bike owners are stupid and careless with their riding habits.
You need a proper license for anything over 20-30 km/h. That's the difference. I assume you have a driving license, and do drive on a sidewalk, correct?
I'm from the city where this photo was taken. Most people are happy about these checks and the bikes that don't pass being confiscated. If you want to go fast get a license and pay insurance.
Either dyno testing the motor to see if the power is above regulation or (more likely) testing if the top speed is above regulation as to levy fines against the owner or impound the bike.
Kind of useless honestly as most bikes can change modes rather quickly or be locked out with password, rendering the dyno null. They’d be better off just using a radar gun to catch speeders.
