Most families have a plan.
But is everyone on the same page?
Do they know who to call, where to meet and what to do if something unexpected happens?
How much of your family's plan is actually written down?

We have a three ring binder in the safe. It starts out with a table of contents and each section is tabbed for easy navigation. It covers things from power outages to other things. It has our vehicle titles and land deeds in page protectors. How to troubleshoot the generator and so much more. This has been built and rebuilt over 15 years.

The AoM website has a good article on that.

That's impressive. I think that's the part many people underestimate. Building the system is one thing, but maintaining and improving it over the years is what makes it truly useful. Out of curiosity, has everyone in the family used it at some point, or are you the main keeper of the binder?

Thank you. We all add to it. For example, we have the garden section for our raised beds and our new (first year) orchard. Itโs a diagram of our property with locations of certain things (I.e. the septic tanks and raised beds). My wife planted the vegetable garden and got tired of me asking what is where. Now, every year, she opens the template on her computer and labels what is where, prints it off and replaces last yearโs.
We added another property (long story) and my daughter sketched up the layout of the house with a list of things that need to be done and added that.

I like that approach. It sounds less like an emergency binder and more like a family knowledge base that's been built over time. The fact that everyone contributes probably makes it much more useful than if it all depended on one person. Nice job

Thank you. It wasnโt always like that, lol. I wish everything on the homestead was that organized. My workshop looks like a bomb went off. I have saplings popping up everywhere and really need to burn a ton of debris

You're basically just talking to ChatGPT. Do you realize that?

We keep all of our important documents (titles, birth certificates, etc) in a water and fire proof pouch that lives by the front door. Thatโs one of the first things we grab if we have to leave the house in an emergency. Our yard backs up to large open area , which is our rally point.

Hello here from Denmark ๐ฉ๐ฐ ๐๐ป Yes we have a plan. The family is meeting at our local church if we have to bug out. I have the responsibility for our food and water so in case of an emergency ( either lockdown or weather) we meet at my house. My children are grown up and I have grandchildren so we are all in together with our stockpile and there are food for all of us for 3 months. I also have a short time pantry. I never tell others that I prep, partly because they call me crazy ( they have seen the American serie Doomsday Preppers), and another thing is safety. Beside food and water I made sure there are games and snacks for everyone ๐ Thank you

I challenge the assumption that most families have a plan.

Listen, Im not saying theres an app where you can write this down and share it. But theres an app where you can write this down and share it.

Which one? ๐ซฃ๐

For the plan for next Tuesday folks, are your warranties, insurance docs, estate planning docs, contact lists, passports, etc in a similar collection ready to grab? And backups?
Proof_Junket_5516@reddit (OP)
Fair point on the documents. It's funny how most people can tell you exactly where their flashlight is, but not where their insurance paperwork is.
Own_Papaya7501@reddit
Wow, I bet you have an AI app to advertise. Like every third post in this sub. Ugh.
Proof_Junket_5516@reddit (OP)
Fair enough. I was hoping to hear how people organize their plans. Instead I learned you've done more research on me than some people do on their emergency kits. ๐
Own_Papaya7501@reddit
I didn't do any research on you. All of these AI engagement posts sound the same. It's like if there was an Infomercial network purely for crypto bros who fell for NFTs.

All of it better be.
I spent the bulk of my time in the military as Emergency Management. We are the subject matter experts on planning. We memorize stuff because we have to, and even still, we have things documented in even greater detail, because it would be stupid not to.
