I think this is why I have a problem with this subreddit and maybe as a whole the internet. It is true that Kansas is struggling with crop yields but globally crops are actually doing really good. Canada just had record harvests.
Only focusing on the bad really seems not healthy for the mental

This sub is turning into r.collapse. Too much doomer porn.

Its a mostly an American audience and we are getting bombarded with propaganda every day
Mylilneedle@reddit
Who is gonna send us that wheat surplus? We are alienated and intentionally making imports more expensive.

If you have some pleasant long range projections to post that suggest food costs will not rise in the coming year, please go ahead and post the link.

I'm a tortilla guy anyways
random5654@reddit
Hope you like beans!
onthestickagain@reddit
To be fair, I hope we ALL like beans
ripndipp@reddit
You bet! With a side of sour cream
FormerNeighborhood80@reddit
Same here. I can’t bake bread to save my soul and tortillas are pretty easy to make.

I'm already seeing mass market sourdough loafs go for nearly $8 at Ralphs, can't wait to see what it reaches this year
willsidney341@reddit
It’s not really comparable, I know, but I walked through one of those arts and crafts fairs the other day, and was stunned to see a woman (attempting to sell) loaves of sourdough for $45. Not sure if she actually managed to, and I didn’t ask her about it because I just assumed she was crazy.
onthestickagain@reddit
One of my dad’s favorite jokes is about the kid running a roadside fruit stand with a sign saying “apples $1M each” and when someone stops to ask him about why he’s priced it like that, he replies “well… I’ve only gotta sell one”
That $45 would likely cover half, if not the entirety, of hee booth rental fee

That’s what the farmer’s market is like here

😱
Maybe the bakery outlet near me will end up having more available, which might be nice.
Of course, I say that and we also have a sourdough starter which began in my son's 30th birthday several weeks back, lol
puritanicalbullshit@reddit
Yeah I was just thinking it’s time to dedicate some freezer space to flour and get a starter started pronto
onthestickagain@reddit
I don’t know why I have such a mental block on getting a starter going. I’m well stocked on flour (lord I love having a “beer fridge” for overflow of flour and butter), but I’ve been putting off learning how to sourdough.
VariousFalcon7466@reddit
I’m betting $12 by the end of summer
Barrack64@reddit
So, buy a bread maker. Got it.
snarktologist@reddit
what good does that do if there's no wheat?
dalek_999@reddit
Well…now would be the time to stock up on it.
johnb1972@reddit
This is how they justify price increases.. less work more profits

We're going to see a "greater depression" aren't we?
beepichu@reddit
the GREATEST depression the world has ever seen!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. PRESIDENT Donald J. Trump
2quickdraw@reddit
Nobody's ever seen anything like it!
MrBrawn@reddit
Well he is right. I am more depressed than I have been in a while.
IndyDoggy@reddit
If only we had good relations with a northern neighbor that had a significant surplus of wheat of over 6Mt.
Pando5280@reddit
Have an uncle who is a lifelong wheat farmer. Told me last year they had an 80 degree temp swing within a 24 hour time period. Thats bot normal let alone healthy for growing crops. Add in skyrocketing fertilizer costs and its not a good year to be a farmer.
HowManyBanana@reddit
Man all the winter wheat near me is looking really really good. Guess they’re about to have a nice profit.
Standard-Square-7699@reddit
Wait until el Nino makes the news cycle.
Interesting_Tea_6734@reddit
Sliced bread has gone up by a dollar already at WinCo near me.
