Is it dumb to switch from an okay-ish ATX B450 board to a cheap mATX B550?

I currently have an MSI B450-A PRO MAX with a Ryzen 5 3600.
The board works fine, but I’m considering downsizing to a micro-ATX case, so I would also need a smaller motherboard. Because of that, I’m thinking about selling my current setup and replacing it with a cheaper PCIe 4.0 B550 mATX board.
My future CPU upgrade would most likely be a Ryzen 5 5600, and I don’t plan to go any higher than that.
So I’m wondering:
Would I be downgrading in any meaningful way by switching to a budget mATX board like the GIGABYTE B550M K, ASUS Prime B550M-K, or similar entry-level models?
My main concern is just that my current B450 board might actually be “better” in some way than these very budget mATX boards, even though they are newer chipsets. I’m not fully sure how they compare in practice.
Also, I don’t really have high requirements for storage or features in general. I’m currently just using SATA SSDs, which is totally fine for me, and I don’t need NVMe or any high-end storage features.
The main reason for this change is purely portability — I need to transport my PC quite often, so a smaller mATX case would be much more practical.

I use the gigabyte b550m k and love it but make sure to put a fan blowing on the vrms as it lacks a vrm heatsink. It’s great mobo and I run a 5700x on it since the tdp is 65 while I do have a fan blowing on the vrms

I don't think it will matter. any B550 can run a 5600 no problem. just choose one that have enough M.2 slot and USB port for your need.

Mainboards are usually not that critical, should be fine

Gigabyte and Asus is no way bad brands for budget line. I've heard worse no-name brand.
