I can’t remember word for word. But when CIA was smuggling weapons to the Muhjadeen, or however you spelled it, the Russian special forces were working to intercept those shipments. Well basically they did here, and this is the aftermath. I’m sure there an article about it, with more info, if you look up “Russian special forces intercepting CIA weapons packages for the Muhjadeen.”
Also probably just captured them in the course of fighting them too. The soviet's generally had a poor record dealing with ambushes but I'm sure they won some of them and captured weapons.
