Pre trip

Doing my thing getting my day started. Hook up to my assigned trailer and… nope. Big time air leak. With the tiniest bit of inspection I find the culprit.
How does something like this happen? I can’t imagine a scenario where this damage could happen in the yard. You think the last driver to pull this trailer got it airborne and didn’t bother with a post trip?
Regardless, I’m delayed waiting for mobile repair. Luckily I factor in things like this happening and I’ll still make it to the shipper on time.

I've seen a few things but I haven't seen that one, yet.

Good catch

Thanks. It really wasn’t that hard because I used my eyes and ears and got down on the ground.

Whoa whoa whoa. You can use both? What witchcraft is this?

Pure laziness. Ive picked up trailers with brakes fucked, tires so low i can kick them off the rim, electrical systems broken. And somehow both Yard dogs and other drivers say "Thats someone else's problem". Damn sad thing is these are our yard guys so they can report it to our on-site repair guy....but they rarely do. Its so wild people dont take pre and post trips seriously. It can save you so much time and headaches if you catch things early.

I’m wondering if drivers think they will get in trouble for damaging equipment if they report it.

I make a habit of documenting the condition and reporting any broken equipment before I take control of it, and all my communication emphasises that this is the state I found it in. I do this in part because I don't like picking up broken equipment and also I don't like being blamed for it, so I take a more proactive approach.

I mean very possible. But they can still find out if its damaged from the DVIR once its reported. So like just take your chewing out and move on.

Probably best to just run it then and let the next guy report it

Them yard dogs never care about anybody but themselves

Bad enough when you grab a trailer with a flat tire (it pisses me off when that happens). But this is beyond fucking the next driver.

In my experience it's pure laziness.
