The Velorex was a three-wheeled small car made in Czechoslovakia for the disabled after World War II.

What makes it for the disabled?
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
Hand only controls were available (so no pedals for brake, gas, clutch). And big discounts or even free for disabled people (many eastern bloc countries provided free cars for disabled).

Czech cars are underappreciated globally

Always wanted to try a Tatra
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
Skodas are quite popular around here. Even though they're VW now, still see them quite a lot.
SzmnDzrzn@reddit
I meant their original cars, before VW bought it. Even as far as pre war Tatras were quite ahead of it's times.
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
Yes indeed, and ironically enough, tatras were the source of "inspiration" (or copying) of the VW beetle.
Guitarman0512@reddit
They're more profitable than VW themselves within the group.

Well... that looks like its made of leather, which is interesting...
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
Imitation leather, made of vinyl.
sicurri@reddit
So... Vleather?
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
"leatherette" they called it
sicurri@reddit
Yeah... definitely sounds better than Vleather, lol.

Yep, leather cover on tubular frame. Cheap and simple, but not exactly safe
Horror-Raisin-877@reddit
Tube and fabric construction of course has been used for aircraft for well over a century. It's light, easy to produce, easy to repair, and can be formed quite aerodynamically. Makes sense for a car that's trying to be as light as possible.

Carbon fiber “cloth” would be dope on this
BlackSwanMarmot@reddit
It would make working on one very easy. Just unclip the body panels and now you’re working on an open frame like a motorcycle. I love the idea.

Looks like a tent with wheels and a motor

This is how cars should be. Light and fuel efficient.
Unfortunately most people chose heavy cars and that made the roads dangerous for light vehicles.

I feel like I would end up disabled trying to get in and out of this thing.
monkeyheadmark@reddit
while driving one myself, I never understood whether the implication was that one was disabled before or after...
psychowhippet@reddit
Sod being for the disabled, I’d drive that like a shot.
